Thanks for the review. We will do the same install with our Model 3. Yes, the switch is a great idea!
Also, how are you providing power to your hotspot? Mine dies fairly quickly and a battery solution seems more pertinent for the hotspot than the Dashcam right now (Dashcam still hardwired)
How do you remove the side panel to put the battery in? Did you have to remove both sides?

Thanks for sharing. So, CC hardwired my camera to my 12V battery on Friday and now I'm basically waiting for the battery error to appear any day now... How long did it take your error message to appear and did you have to go in replace your 12V battery? Would you have kept the hardwire if you never got an error message? I inquired with CC to do a battery install after the fact, but they asked me to drive up to Studio City to get this done (I'm in OC as well)... Also your Amazon link to the ultra battery isn't working
About 3 months...Tesla mobile service replaced the battery (took 20 minutes). If I didn’t get the error I would most likely have left it on...(I am still not 100% sure the error is due to the dashcam but since others reported similar issues with a dashcam) I switched over.
Maybe you can try and ask them if they can schedule you in next time they are in the OC.

HUGE Thank You (s) for your vids! Subscribed. After my sons recent disaster with his BMW and with your reviews, he has bought the Blackvue and it is to be installed this weekend in the new car. So in order to use your parking mode do you have to unplug the battery pack? And If use a 12 V plug won’t your 12 V battery be drain faster?
hey how did you connect the switch in videwo. Calibred customs installed mine today with battery pack B124 and also a laser detector ..but I did not know about the switch so i can turn off when car is parked at home...would love to switch it..thx
Tesla will release a dashcam software update for model 3 this year.
why u need dashcam if u have sentry mode?
Hey, MTG. It's been nearly 6 months since you published this. What's the update? Did the battery alert ever come back? Did it catch and fire? Or are you pretty happy with how this solution turned out?
The battery solution is still working great! Nothing has changed

Haven’t had any heating issues. The mobile app reports temperature and the battery has overheat shutoff

Would any normal large capacity battery pack work instead of the ultra battery? Just looking for a cheaper option
Anything that outputs 12V should theoretically work (provided the amp draw is also suffice). However, I would recommend the Blackvue Ultra Pack as this will be something that you will keep in your car (needs to handle extreme temps) and not overcharge. You don’t want a poor quality battery that will overcharge...hoping the ultra battery will last a very long time
Why in the hell did they remove the USB power outlets for hotspot charging?
My model 3 battery died 45 days after hardwiring blackvue camera. It is definitly the camera that kills the battery
Did your service center contacted you regarding your 12v battery is throwing issues at them? it happened to me and other people, this is what the service center wrote

Technician removed and replaced 12v battery. Upon completion, verified proper function. Customer concern has been rectified. Advise client that the aftermarket wiring was left disconnected to the 12v due to aftermarket policy listed in new vehicle limited warranty. Service center will one time good will battery but due to aftermarket installation of parts any future 12v battery replacements
needed will be charged to customer.
