    I think it is important to mention that Jeff also set realistic goals. It is not out of the ordinary for a monster buck to be living in the area, but with Jeff's management goals, he should have a few 4.5 year old bucks to look for most every year. If a real giant shows up every few years, it's a bonus! Great job and great video!

      Eric - Jeff does a great job of managing his land to attract bucks which is a huge accomplishment given the small percentage of a normal buck's home range he hunts! - grant

    Really enjoyed the video! I hunt a small, 44 acre, property in the coastal plain of South Carolina. Surrounded by ag fields and creek bottom/swamp timber. No food left this time of year for several miles (at least high quality food). We are working to improve the property so we can have better hunting experiences. We've taken 2 mature bucks and a lot of does (a few immature bucks too, good bad or indifferent, I let my kids take any deer). Great video! Hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and I hope we all have a great and wonderful New Year!

    What is the best strategy for hunting weather conditions when it is cold and rapidly turns warm

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  5 років тому +1

      Carl - If it's been colder than normal and then turns warm deer often feed aggressively during daylight for the first day or two. It the temps have been normal and then warm up it's probably best to hunt close to bedding areas as deer may not move much during daylight. - grant

    Raccoons are predators?

    • @rydaddy2867
      @rydaddy2867 5 років тому +1

      Oh-yeah...nest predators, stealing eggs. Then young turkey poults, too, and a big enough raccoon will take down a fawn if it finds one.

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 роки тому

      Yes - Raccoons are wicked on birds and bird nest - including turkeys!

    Not understanding why you are killing opossum when you are so worried about ticks. Opossum may eat a few turkey eggs but that is a small trade off for the job they do against ticks.

    • @rydaddy2867
      @rydaddy2867 5 років тому

      True, but the opossum are probably more of an incidental-take, verses targeted.
      Opossum get a complete pass on our farm...and I saw a BEAST of a opossum last weekend...for the exact tick-killing reasons you cite.

      @@rydaddy2867 Looked like they were using live traps though, so no need to kill them in a live trap. A foot trap may be a different story i guess.

      @@GrowingDeerTV Do they just eat adult ticks? I guess I don't know the source of the information anymore, but I was lead to believe an opossum was the only animal that would actively seek out and consume an entire tick nest of eggs/larva.
