    Remind me again what PETA members do for fun? Nothing on this level. Incredible hunt. Great that you shared with your kid. Just a few years and I'll be sharing these lessons with mine. Thanks for documenting this hunt.

      Kicker ducked the shot a lot, more than it appeared at full-speed playback. I'd say ~6 inches.

    Leaving Louisiana and heading to Salem, Mo. to hunt family farm for Nov. gun opener this weekend. Living 10 hrs away I have no idea how the rut is running this year Do you think the bucks will be in lock down next week? I know last year the rut must've been a little later cause we actually saw some chasing going on that week. That is usually not the case. Thanks PS. Keep the great informative videos coming

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 роки тому

      Scott - Actually the rut is during the same time each year as fawns are born during the same time. Sometimes we see more activity than others. Missouri's gun season shifts by one day each year. This year there should be some chasing going on as not all does will be bred by this weekend!

    Great video as usual!! How big of a property do you need to make it worthwhile to go through the effort of deer and land management? Where I live (IL, close to St. Louis), land is crazy expensive and I wonder if I’m better off just paying an outfitter each year, or buying a small piece of property (maybe 20 acres) we can actually afford on a military (wife) and civil service (me) income. I’m an adult onset hunter and started hunting b/c my son took an interest at a young age. My son took his first deer (a doe) on public ground this year and I’ve only ever harvested small bucks and some does. Thanks!

      IMO, that decision lies within what about deer hunting you find fun. However, against what many new hunters may believe, the fun in hunting isn't derived solely from the end goal of a harvest, but rather from the individual relationship you build with the animals you hunt. If you can afford to spend the time and money to spend on your own land (or lease), DO IT! Enjoy the ride.

    • @GrowingDeerTV
      @GrowingDeerTV  4 роки тому

      Dave - Congratulations to you son and thanks to you and your wife for your service to our nation! Hunting public land can be very fun! However, owning land and watching it improve due to your planning and work is very fun and rewarding to most! The size of the property necessary depends on your deer management objectives and the habitat and hunting preferences in the neighborhood! I have several friends with small properties that enjoy great hunting annually! Before you purchase a property, I strongly recommend having someone else review it to see if it's meets your objectives. Given the state of our nation, I'd say owning land is a good move for any family!
