I'm primarily interested in meat. So does are fair game. I have yet to find a good buck on my property in 3 years. That means a doe is about all I will get a chance to take.
I've never been big on shooting does personally. I have a 150 acre farm I have hunted the last ten years or so. The deer numbers this year have shot up dramatically (dozen or more deer in the clover fields each night). The good thing in PA is I can share my tag with a junior hunter. I plan to let my little cousin use my doe tag and help bring the herd back into balance. Hopefully I can get his first archery kill on camera. Keep up the good work on the show! Love how down to Earth all the guys are. They don't pretend they are some know it all professional hunters that can do no wrong like other shows.
Yes, hunting Kentucky all my neighbors are trophy hunters (not wasting their time with does) and it is very rare for them to take a doe, I have concerns about a high deer population and diseases that accompany the higher population.
Nope; the Southern WI farms I hunt are too small to feel like any deer are native to just 1 property, so the only thing that brings in the bucks are that the does stay ever-present and calm. There's basically no such thing as reaching a deer carrying capacity when every woodlot and marsh is surrounded by hundreds of acres of corn and soybeans.
been waiting to see this year's bow hunting videos you guys at growing deer are amazing and I love seeing your videos I've seen all of them on your u tube channel god bless you all
Many of our setups are similar to this. Set up along the powerline on a trail that deer use frequently to enter and exit the bedding area. Save this stand until the pre rut and you should be seeing lots of deer! -Matt
Nice video! This is the kind of hunting that I don't mind... I used to be 100% against hunting, but that has changed. I can't help but think of the parts of deer that I could use for my dogs 😂 Great hunt!
Dead Down Wind Wind Dectector, We use it to know which way our scent will be blowing, wind direction. " Wind Detector with micropowder improves your hunt in the field or game on the course by giving you a visual cloud of wind direction. " See it here: www.growingdeer.tv/view/phty
If you watch the video on deer anatomy he got a double lung shot but back in the lung. It’s thin back there. Just give them time like he did and your good.
Do you pull your entire fence? I have a fence around a small plot and planned to leave the far side up (side away from the stand)? In your opinion is it better to pull it all or leave it to funnel. I don't believe I saw this question posed on your website. I don't want to leave just a small gate as I fear this will make them too uneasy. I just want them to come into the field broadside.
We like to leave an opening or a bottleneck on our fences. You must leave the rest of the fence hot! That is important. Also be sure to leave plenty of room for deer to walk through, we typically open up 25+ yards to establish a fence gap! -Matt
We use the Messenger Grunt call from Hooks Calls, it replicates the grunts from a 2.5 year old buck, this encourages deer of all ages to come in and respond to a call. You can see more here at this link www.hookscalls.com/ -Matt
We dont typically use a pop-up blind. but I would give that area a good amount of rest before hunting it. Let deer get calm around the blind them hunt it! -Matt
Wow Heath and Linsey went to the exact same place were my dad and I take care of oil wells o my gosh that is so cool I can't believe that. The ranch is called broughm Ranch
I have had some trouble bow hunting this year I'm using a new bow and I have hit three deer only recovered one my broad heads don't seem to be opening or if they are I'm hitting too high I lost my first archery buck just 2 days ago one of the biggest deer I've ever seen but I shot high and didn't find blood or the deer.
Sorry to hear of the troubles. You may start aiming for the lower third of the vitals. This will help to hit deer more in the center of the body, resulting in recoveries! Here is the broadhead we all like to use, we've had great success with it. www.growingdeer.tv/view/x3yx -Matt
Regarding the two does at the last part of the video. I noticed that he hit both deer high, and i also noticed that he kept his bow stand attached to his bottom limb when shooting the deer. Hopefully he realized the correlation at some point or another in the last two years? Just looking out. Also just got into growingdeertv. So far I like it!
Grant what arrows do you use I recently purchased some blackout x5 envys and got all excited and they just haven't cut it i shoot for hunting and target quite often and most haven't made it through this month(not do to poor accuracy) what arrows would you recommend? Please consider I'm 17 years old and cannot afford 120$ arrows
Stand selection is key, you may try to change the way you approach and hunt your stands. Entry and exit is very critical to having successful hunts! -Matt
Hi Dr. Woods, I hope you, family and all interns/workers are healthy. I wish that you would do a show completely devoted to gut shot deer i.e. how far they run, whether they definitely die or not and how to track them. Because of your erudition and reputation in the deer hunting world, it would answer a lot of what is myth and what is not. The reason I ask is that I just gut shot a giant buck and never found him. Thank you. Take care. Paul D. Dodson
Good idea, we may have to look into doing that soon. On gut shot deer it is best to let them lay. for many hours 4+. Give them plenty of time. The track job maybe difficult as they tend to not bleed much. Grid searching low lying areas and thick cover may yield a recovery. -Matt
We wear Drake Non-typical clothing! it is very comfortable and designed for serious hunters. We are generally in either a Mossy Oak bottomland or a Realtree Xtra pattern. -Matt www.drakewaterfowl.com/shop/season/big-game
hey grant I happen to notice that on one of the hunts the hunter used a muzzleloader and bow. I think that was illegal am I not correct? correct me if I'm wrong but I stated that during the archery season you could only use archery equipment and not muzzleloader or firearms equipment, if you were archery hunting. I I'm just curious but great video loving it.
In WI you can use a bow during a gun season, you just can't use a gun during a bow season...unless it is a special restricted weapon or restricted access season...like a Youth Weekend, Veteran Weekend, or a 4-day special muzzleloader-only season.
Thanks for taking note of that, but during the first two weeks of season in KS both archery and muzzleloader season are in. Thanks for watching, we hope you are blessed with a great season. -Matt
set it around 40lbs. That is likely the legal limit where you are for deer. Work on your form and increase the poundage as your strength grows. Form is the key though!!!
I'm 13 and draw 60 but that is after 3 years so if your new to hunting I would set it at a lower poundage like 40-50 so you can work on form then after you get your form down then work on poundage
Unfortunately we don't have any oak trees on our hunting property but there are oaks near by and I'm sure the deer are feeding on them.We have corn and two Fall food plots. Mark.
I am 16 years old and I have never den bow hunting. I usually use a rifle or shotgun depending where I hunt. Anyway, how many pounds do you think I should pull?
I've only had it happen 1 time in 25 years of hunting...shot the big doe and the yearling would not leave her. After 5min, shot the yearling doe too. And this was a shotgun-only area, so it was not a quiet shot and that small doe just would not leave! Both were delicious. :)
love the voting tip! I'll be making america great again next month! will also be voting for my pro 2nd amendment candidates for local, state and federal government! in indiana that's Todd Young, Larry Buschon, Holcomb and our great gov Pence and Trump for president!!!!!
That buck could've been a giant! He looked young, but congratulations on an awesome deer!
No kidding, that was not an old deer! Gotta love farmland bucks...
Lol i was just about to say the same thing but saw ur comment. 100% not mature yet
Truly awesome. You guys are amazing outdoorsman.
Thanks!
hobby hunting tag freaks - you're only fooling yourself & your fanboys with all your machoman ball-less bullshit.
GrowingDeer.tv that is a big twelve pointer.
Great video and very informative as always! The second doe that the guy shot at the tree plot looked really nice. Double white patch on the throat.
Thanks for watching!
I am finally getting to go hunting for the first time this November. U guys have inspired me and help me become a better outdoorsmen with my dad
Excellent, we hope you are both blessed with a successful hunt! -Matt
Do your hunting plans include shooting does? Why or why not?
I'm primarily interested in meat. So does are fair game. I have yet to find a good buck on my property in 3 years. That means a doe is about all I will get a chance to take.
GrowingDeer.tv yessir it does. Only allowed one doe and one buck in noble county in Ohio but already took my doe opening weekend.
I've never been big on shooting does personally. I have a 150 acre farm I have hunted the last ten years or so. The deer numbers this year have shot up dramatically (dozen or more deer in the clover fields each night). The good thing in PA is I can share my tag with a junior hunter. Thanks Adam for the kind words! Best wishes this fall -Matt
Wow Handy is a huge deer now
He is very impressive, hopefully going after him soon! -Matt

been waiting to see this year's bow hunting videos you guys at growing deer are amazing and I love seeing your videos I've seen all of them on your u tube channel god bless you all
Thanks for watching!
Hey guys! Should you use the scent control right before a hunt or the night before?
We usually shower before each hunt and keep our clothes in a Scent Crusher year round. - grant
Grant, how is your dad doing? I understand he had health issues this last year, and I really hope he is well. Another great video as always.
Thanks for asking! Grant's dad is cancer free and working on getting his strength back! God Bless -Matt
Great news! Thank God
This is what I've been waiting for since last season. Nice video guys
Thanks Dante!
GrowingDeer.tv np
Wow that 12 would of been a monster in two more years!
He was a neat deer! -Daniel
Nice shots everyone!
Thanks for watching! -Matt
What are your suggestions when hunting next to power lines where the deer bed
Many of our setups are similar to this. Set up along the powerline on a trail that deer use frequently to enter and exit the bedding area. Save this stand until the pre rut and you should be seeing lots of deer! -Matt
Nice video! This is the kind of hunting that I don't mind... I used to be 100% against hunting, but that has changed. I can't help but think of the parts of deer that I could use for my dogs 😂 Great hunt!
Very glad to hear that! Thank you for sharing your perspective. -Matt
Awesome video I love it so much can not wait till next weeks video on deer hunting🎯😀
Thanks, we appreciate you watching each week! -Matt
Great video!! Keep the great work up
Thanks! -Matt
Enjoyed the video Growingdeer
Thanks! Hope you are well. -Matt
How hard is it to make a homemade bale blind?I have heard awesome things about them so just curious.
What is the orange bottle you squeeze into the air when you are in your stand?

You are correct!
Love that old school pattern on that camo ..What brand is that?
You can find that pattern of camo here: www.drakewaterfowl.com/product/non-typical-silencer-soft-shell-jacket It is called Bottomland Camo. -Matt
Do you pull your entire fence? I have a fence around a small plot and planned to leave the far side up (side away from the stand)? In your opinion is it better to pull it all or leave it to funnel. Awesome! Thanks for the response. I set the solar panel so I can leave the backside hot while pulling the half nearer my stand.
What grunt call techniques do you guys use
We use the Messenger Grunt call from Hooks Calls, it replicates the grunts from a 2.5 year old buck, this encourages deer of all ages to come in and respond to a call. You can see more here at this link www.hookscalls.com/ -Matt
With popup ground blinds how long until you can typically hunt them?If brushed in good I'm assuming few days after.Whats your opinion on it?
We dont typically use a pop-up blind. but I would give that area a good amount of rest before hunting it. Let deer get calm around the blind them hunt it! -Matt
Wow Heath and Linsey went to the exact same place were my dad and I take care of oil wells o my gosh that is so cool I can't believe that.
The ranch is called broughm Ranch
Wow that is awesome and cool
Awesome! They travel to that area of KS quite a bit! -Matt

We shoot the Bloodsport Evidence Arrows, they are great for hunting, durable and accurate -Matt

Table Rock fisher 50
Stand selection is key, you may try to change the way you approach and hunt your stands. Entry and exit is very critical to having successful hunts! -Matt
Love the videos
Thanks for watching Kaleb-Matt
What bow would you recommend by prime I need a new bow and I shoot 50 pounds because I’m only thirteen something that is wallet friendly.
Sam - Raleigh and Rae have shot the Quest bows. They are great!! I'd hunt with them. They are made by Prime and are less expensive. - grant
Hi Dr. Woods,

Absolutly! We have probably a 10:1-15:1 ratio and need to get rid of some does.
It's a higher ratio than we would like - and plan on taking more does throughout the season! Thanks for watching!
do you guys do any hunting in north carolina
what lenses was Aaron using on his dslr? great video
I'm not sure. Sorry. -Daniel
What draw weight are you guys shooting with??
We all shoot between 60 and 70 lbs. -Matt
Ok.Thanks
How large of a live trap for racoon,Opossum,Groundhog?Would a 12 by 12 inches by 30 inches long be enough?
Yes, that would be plenty large enough! -Matt
What types of Camo do you use?
We wear Drake Non-typical clothing! it is very comfortable and designed for serious hunters. We are generally in either a Mossy Oak bottomland or a Realtree Xtra pattern. -Matt www.drakewaterfowl.com/shop/season/big-game
how old do you think that 12 was? Just curious what your prediction is.
No older than 3 year. -Daniel
GrowingDeer.tv that's what I was thinking. At first sight the number that jumped out at me was 2.5, that's an insane deer.
Isn't that 12 pt a younger deer with potential to be a giant?
Knowing the neighborhood and the slim chances of this buck surviving another season, Aaron decided to take him. -Matt
hey grant I happen to notice that on one of the hunts the hunter used a muzzleloader and bow. I think that was illegal am I not correct? correct me if I'm wrong but I stated that during the archery season you could only use archery equipment and not muzzleloader or firearms equipment, if you were archery hunting. is it okay to shoot does early season? or will it effect the outcome of the bucks rutting in my location. thanks
You will find a very detailed answer from Dr. Woods at this link: www.growingdeer.tv/view/2011/09/16/when-is-the-best-time-to-shoot-does/
or at this link, Matt wrote a blog on it here: www.growingdeer.tv/view/2016/09/23/when-is-the-best-time-to-tag-does/
thanks guy, yall are always helpfull and have all the answers !
quick question I'm 13 years old but I don't know what to set my bow poundage to what do u suggest
As much as you can pull at least 10 times in a row
IR Kahous honestly if you can pull 40-50 you would be fine. 40 is as low as I would go. Make sure you check your local game laws.
thnx
set it around 40lbs. That is likely the legal limit where you are for deer. Work on your form and increase the poundage as your strength grows. Form is the key though!!!

Just got my first deer with a bow that havoc did a number on her!
Big congrats!!!! Hope there are more to come, Havocs are a great broadhead! -Matt
Have you seen and mountain lions or bears at your place
We have bears that move thorough regularly, but we haven't seen any mountain lions. -Matt
love to hunt them all the time
:) -Daniel
Lots of deer moving there. It's way too hot here nothing is moving. No deer, turkeys or coyote ! I'm assuming that's why ? Mark Bow.
That maybe the case! Are acorns dropping in your area as well? -Matt
Unfortunately we don't have any oak trees on our hunting property but there are oaks near by and I'm sure the deer are feeding on them.We have corn and two Fall food plots. Mark.
I've been out three times and haven't seen anything ! I'm mostly hunting field edges. I'm sure the deer are moving in the woods ! Eating acorns !?
I am 16 years old and I have never den bow hunting. I usually use a rifle or shotgun depending where I hunt. Anyway, how many pounds do you think I should pull?
I would go to a bow shop and let them help you bro .
if you are 16 try close to 50
I'm 12 and I pull 50 so it should be fine for you
50 pound is a perfect amount for any one 18-14 last year I shoot a deer through the shoulder and it ran 75 yards with 50 pound draw
Would you r commend 60 lbs. for a 16 year old?
1:26 that's a big 6 point
:) -Daniel
Good thing she shot low I guess. Great 12 point.
that last deer wanted to die lmao, she stood there and took it after her friend got run through
That doesn't happen much, but got to take advantage of it when you can! -Matt
I've only had it happen 1 time in 25 years of hunting...shot the big doe and the yearling would not leave her. After 5min, shot the yearling doe too. And this was a shotgun-only area, so it was not a quiet shot and that small doe just would not leave! Both were delicious. :)
hey! You should let me hunt with you guys 😉
HAHA, we get the a lot! Unfortunately we don't sell any hunts. We hope you have a blessed season! -Matt
GrowingDeer.tv will do love the videos
God Bless
Yes, to get venison, and to balance the adult sex ratio.
Filling the freezer is important! -Matt
Are you voting for trump? Please do
Sure thing.
love the voting tip! I'll be making america great again next month! will also be voting for my pro 2nd amendment candidates for local, state and federal government! in indiana that's Todd Young, Larry Buschon, Holcomb and our great gov Pence and Trump for president!!!!!
Thanks for the support! This election is extremely critical for outdoorsman and women! -Matt
