That's the entire premise of the show though...stealing the techniques of other chefs and make it your own. Saiba did it with his travels, yukihira learned a lot of the tricks he knows from his father and running yukihira, as well as from his peers, and now Erina used yukihira's move, lowkey showing she acknowledges him as a real chef
I just want to make a point to thank you for being the first UA-cam chef I've seen that didn't say to just toss the stock components into the trash and instead recommending a prep for them to avoid food waste.
LOL... the chef just said "This is really good"... after a year of complaining about squid and peanut butter and how nasty it is and yet... here we are!!!! this was brilliant!!!!
shout out to chef PK for ingoring his Chef instincts so that we can see show accurate food, I would not be able to bring myself to actually make peanut butter squid puff pastry.
Sure is nice how this was the last dish shown in the series. By calling back to Souma and Erina's first meeting, they brought everything full circle and showed the completion of Erina's character arc. It was such a satisfying conclusion! It's so great how they didn't drag the series out beyond that. Why, they'd have to invent a new antagonist and a whole new faction we'd never heard of, maybe even attempt the old Shounen Manga Secret Technique Arms Race, except with secret cooking techniques, and wouldn't that be stupid and terrible!
It even included a montage at the end with Megumi overcoming her weaknesses and finally becoming a great chef in her own right... . Thank goodness the Anime/Manga didn't continue. They would have to throw her under the bus and probably job her like a chump.
Should've just gone for the Foreign Exchange Student Elite Ten showdown VS the Totsuki Elite Ten. Make the "BBEG" a third-year student with a similar grudge against Jouichiro but more so like a misled kid with a somewhat understandable grudge.

I admire your dedication to recreating that real good bite of anime food, that looked super involved (I suppose as expected from a dish that comes from a high-octane cooking competition high school setting LOL). It looked pretty delicious at the end, too! One thing, though, I noticed you mentioned that you had to sort of salvage the edges for crispy senbei pieces and I'd like to suggest that by "strips of squid" Erina was probably using strips of dried squid, which have less moisture to get in the way of the crisping process and don't add too much extra chew if you slice the pieces fine enough. Congrats on your 100k subs! I look forward to seeing more of your anime dish recreations!

One possible solution to the crust becoming crunchier but the chicken still being properly cooked could be to increase the temperature when the chicken is close to being done. Since there is a sudden increase in temperature, the crust is gonna start cooking faster then the chicken is cooking inside, which allows you to cook the crust at a "different temperature" and finish the chicken on the inside properly without it being overcooked.
I didn't watched this untill I finished season 4 and I literally watched season 4 just before I watched this. Erin's didn't said squid strips she said dried squid powder. But I don't care ı love squid either way :V

@@Lheticus yeah. If this were in a big kitchen environment, that puff pastry would be made in bulk, the chicken would be pre seared and chilled, the sauce would be made at the beginning of the shift and the stock would have multiple uses.

I am now planning on opening my own sandwich restaurant with a signature butter spread that keeps the bread crispy and coming up with a lot of crazy ideas inspired by you. The pastry fold reminds me of yakitate! Japan. It's pretty similar to Food war (over the top reactions and creative food) but it's about bread. CHEFPK if you see this comment I hope you give that series a try and maybe try making some of the bread. The manga includes recipes to many of the dishes too!
To get that crispy crust, try setting the oven to broil with the door open (don't close it). Stand there, and don't walk away (or it'll burn). Watch it till the oven gives it that beautiful golden brown.

To get that crispy crust, try setting the oven to broil with the door open (don't close it). Stand there, and don't walk away (or it'll burn). Watch it till the oven gives it that beautiful golden brown.

No BS, not a sales pitch or w/e but my mom actually got that exact Misen knife a couple of years back and it's *phenomenal* It actually sings like a sword if you run your finger down the side and it's sharp as British wit.
