I purchased this Swisco jam spreaders along with charging tool but was more concerned about possibly cracking my 30-yr old vinyl windows with lots of broken pivot shoes. Mike & Tom M. from Swisco with their words of encouragement & caveats got me thru the 1st of 6 windows. The jam spreaders are the way to go otherwise your alternative is to dremel out chunks of vinyl possibly ruining the structural integrity of the window. Very pricey item but required in addition to charging tool

These pivot shoes are sold in stores... Do they fit all types of windoes regardless of the brand of the pivot shoe?

Let’s see how you get the new one in. I’m pretty sure, depending on the weight of the window, you need to stack the coils and they’re now one piece.... try getting one of those in. That would be very helpful.

Anyone know how to raise the pivot shoe higher? Had a window ac in the window I’m referring to, years ago, My windows are all the same size, but for some reason, I need about an extra inch, or less, to install the same ac that I have, in another window. HELP!!

Good question! I would guess this other window has longer balances that may make the pivot shoe sit a little lower. That, or possibly some kind of blockage in the jamb.

I don't know why window manufacturers just don't leave an opening at the top of the channel so the shoe can be easily removed from the channel.
