  • Eras is a no apologies, high-gain distortion that's ready to chug, shred, and palm mute with tight response and multiple distortion textures. Use the Blend knob at max for a full distortion onslaught or roll back the Blend knob to creatively stack and mix other dirt pedals placed in front of Eras. Great for bassists that want to blend in their dry signal as well. Anywhere you set it, the Eras is ready to deliver a diverse world of speaker ripping sounds.
The Eras features a five-position rotary knob that offers the following gain states:
    - I. Tight mode with a slight mid-cut, LED hard clipping, and internal volume control. Fastest response, great for palm muting.
    - II. Tight mode with a slight mid-cut and silicon hard clipping. Smooth with added compression.
    - III. Dual clipping mode with a slight mid-cut and both silicon and LED hard clipping. Rich & full with added sustain.
    - IV. Rhythm mode with a deeper mid-cut, LED hard clipping, and internal volume control. Scooped mids, tight response.
    - V. Rhythm mode with a deeper mid-cut and silicon hard clipping. Rhythmic, warm and full.
Think of each position as a different "flavor" of the pedal. Blend in dry signal or other pedals in combination with the gain states for a near-infinite amount of distortion sounds.

I'm a firm believer that every distortion pedal should include some form of clean blend, even if its not for bass. Guitarists don't know what they're missing with that feature

TBPH, I'm not a fan of overdrive on bass, but I acknowledge that it can have its uses. The nature of "drive" it that it unavoidably emphasises the upper partials, and therefore makes the fundamental weaker by comparison. So, there are really two ways I think drive can be used effectively. The first is to simulate vintage sounds of tube amps being driven into saturation, which I think is appropriate for certain kinds of "classic rock", made back when "high power" amps were 300 watts or less. I use this type of overdrive, myself, on occasion, just a light push into "beginning to saturate" territory. For a lot of years, I gigged with a Trace Elliot V-Type all tube rig, and I kind of miss that sound for certain things. I'm currently using a Boss BB-1X Bass Driver, but I'm planning on adding a One Control BJFe Blackberry Bass Overdrive to my setup, as well.
In more modern applications, I personally think it's best to use two completely separate signal paths for overdriven and clean signal, rather than using a drive pedal with a "blend" knob. The mixing should be done at the console. The ensures that you retain complete control over the clean signal, which preserves the balance and impact of the fundamental. However, if your signal chain is simple, a pedal with a blend knob like the Ages or Eras will work just fine. Both of these pedals sound best to me with the Blend knob below 50%
In virtually any modern application in which people think overdrive/distortion/fuzz sounds awesome on bass, my opinion is that it would sound even better and heavier if the drive sound were mixed in parallel with a clean sound to bolster the fundamental. What sounds good when playing solo bass is not the same thing as what sounds good in a mix. Playing bass with drive is kind of like wanking off in your bedroom on guitar with a Boss Metal Zone. It sounds great in isolation, but weak as fuck in an actual band.

I feel like it's imperative for you guys to try the Ages by Walrus Audio now. I've always been more of a slight breakup, little bit of grit kinda person, instead of the straight distortion type like this pedal, so I think it would be really cool to check out the mellower sibling of the two.

We don’t assume assume that everyone watching is male. “Guys” is just a term we use to address a group of people regardless of gender. A group of women could just as easily be addressed the same. Maybe it’s just the part of the country we’re from 🤷🏻‍♂️ Either way, being exclusive has never been something we’ve aimed to do.
