- Get down and dirty with the AfterShock Bass Distortion. On its own the AfterShock features three massive bass distortion engines, but connect the pedal to the Neuro Mobile App (a free download for iOS and Android) and feast upon a massive collection of additional overdrive, fuzz and distortion tones. Further edit each engine with the Neuro’s parametric EQ, stereo routing options, and internal stacking capabilities.

Thank you for watching!!
Excellent! Nice video, Adam. The opening track really shows off the AfterShock's versatility.
Great products make demos easy!
sourceaudioeffects Can it achieve an almost cliff burton pulling teeth tone?
Excellent review. Liked the simple riffs to show different settings and also that you showcased the editor. Subbed!
+Perry v.d. Veekens thanks!!
Holy crap you weren't lying with the title! :o
+Dave-o 🤘🏻
I had one arrive in the mail today. OMFG! Soooo many options for one pedal! Friggin awesome! Going to plug it in now in my practice room. If I don't come out by Tuesday, send a search party =P
Love this pedal. So many options for tone shaping!
Many good reviews of this pedal can be found here on youtube. But your vid is among the best if not the very best!
+frankie28web thanks for the kind words!!
I bought the SA C-4 and looked forward to using the Neuro App.Unfortuneatly I couldn't get that to work so I sold it.After a while I saw the Aftershock and thought I'd give it a chance.Different pedal but the same result same result. No more pedals that need to be hooked up to a computer for me.
That's a sick pedal...i love it...might go buy one..Thanks.
That tone at 1:04 is amazing.
+ACoolStupidDog That's my favorite section as well!
very b3k ish, is that the stock setting?
+Isaac Berkuta yep. The entire first part is all the default stuff.
Do you think you could get a similar tone as the one at 1:04 using a P Bass?
Steve Beale Most likely
The App is interesting as hell!
+1 for the drummer - mad skills
Damn. You weren't kidding
This thing gets better and better the more I learn. great video. My concern on not being able to hear the changes you make until you burn them is solved with hearing it as you adjust it. Also being able to run it clean and essentially can use it as a clean boost/eq for solos or bridge sections
You can hear the changes after you adjust them, no need to burn until you are done. It's not 'real time' meaning it doesn't adjust as you move the app slider, but it has like a half second delay which is no big deal.
Awesome Adam! You think you can get the Tim Commerford tones out of this? They're the trickiest of tone blends/layers.
+Todd McCracken His sound is so unique and secretive. I've never really tried to attempt his tone because he starts from the source with over wound pickups, multiple rigs with dry and wet amps, etc. That being said, this pedal can do 2 separate drives and send them out to 2 separate lines via stereo outputs. You can mix dry signal into either, both, or dedicate one to being dry only. There are plenty of tube amp something bids I am sure you could get some where close.
Awesome pedal! Cool demo! Thanks!
+Михаил Гигава thanks!
Time to start a stoner metal band
Just bought one of these and the first thing I said after trying the Heavy setting was “looks like I’m gonna play doom now”
cant wait for this to arrive and get to work on constucting my new tones
everything i hoped for and more than i dreamt of... best piece of gear i have bought in a very long time. this one is a keeper
+eightball1340 awesome!
Nice work, Adam. This sounds excellent!
Thanks!!
This thing sounds fantastic I love it.😃👍❤️🎶🎸
I was impressed _before_ it went into all the deep editing options of the app... o_0
LOL same here
I love the first half of this demo, but I don't like stuff to program. Especially when it gets all bloated (like Line 6 for ex)
Yeah in my opinion the app stuff is way too much information. The more options they give me the higher chance there is that I'll mess something up and make it sound terrible lol. The only thing I would use the app for would be to swap between their finished presets.
I think the starting tones the pedal's programmed with out of the factory sounded better than any of the app presets, honestly. The tube setting sounds like a ts9, the heavy setting sounds like a darkglass, and the fuzz setting sounds like a big muff pi, which are already the three pedals I would want to have programmed in anyway
Definitely like this better than the Darkglass BK3
+Mitchell Vision I like both, like vanilla and chocolate, different flavors but both still good!
That's quite a statement.
@@AdamAarts yes! I have got this and the vintage microtubes!
Sounds Awesome
I just got into playing bass. Barely got a practice amp, is this the distortion pedal I want for practicing 80s metal??
What band?
Most 80's metal is clean
Even the distortion sounds on this pedal still sound like a fuzz to my ears. That's fine for some, but I won't be ditching my Darkglass B7K for this anytime soon.
Was this video sponsored by Source Audio?
Sometimes the engines can sound the same or very similar, I found its key to adjust the voice level and freq as some engines sound better than others in certain spots and it really helps them shine.
I know the Heavy toggle sounds nothing like a fuzz and more like my B7K than anything. It's not a perfect side by side mirror of it but it's really close, I'd say a B7K with a little Ampeg flavor.
Also, the video was in no way sponsored by Source Audio. I did beta test this pedal for them before release and helped provide input for adjustments and improvements. But there was no compensation for that or this video. It's purely from my love for the pedal.
Thanks for the transparency, and the quality content. You're one of the best on UA-cam making videos focused on bass!
+Ian Wichmann with high gain bass distortion, even the best distortion pedals are driven into "fuzz" territory when the gain is cranked; for better or worse.
The Heavy setting sounded nice but as far as the rest of it goes my SansAmp has got it all over this pedal. the only other bass drive thats worth looking at are the microtubes or the amptweeker.
+gregg4164 There is a lot more to this pedal than what was shown. You get 2 syackable distortions, or parallel, which I dont know of any other pedal that has that function at the moment. Plus you get MIDI presets and much much more.
Well I do agree it is hard to be able to fully demo a pedal just on a video but as i said the Sans amp is a very tough act to follow and as of yet i still believe that other than maybe the Micro tubes pedals it is hard to beat. This pedal sounds good and has some interesting functions but when is it too much . i will need to check one out in person before i right it off which is only fair. good demonstration though.
I agree. You're basically getting 3 pedals in one, for $150. I think this is a best buy for the money.
Great video!
+Nicki Tedesco thanks!!!!
Great video. Stunning jazz bass too, what model is it?
+Christopher McGuinness Squier VM 70's Jazz
this is a pretty rad pedal
Yea it is. And I only scratched the surface.
you need like 2 or 3 od dist and fuzz pedals so you can actually get different sounds with a press of the foot instead of kneeling over and dialing in different tone. i wish they made a sansamp for fuzz and distortion. the vt cant make up its mnd if its a di or and oversrive which sucks for the price.
Title is incorrect... i need two of these! 😉😎
Nice!!!!
I actually started to try to find this pedal to give it a try but have had no luck finding a source to try it or even buy it.
awesome
Can't help it but to facepalm when you went to the web on the app while on airplane mode. lol. Anyway, I sold my B3K for this and it's been perfect for sludge/doom stuffs. I've got no hate for B3K but it's just too modern for my taste but I'm glad to sell it to a friend that has been enjoying it so far.
Whatever it is, Aftershock is the shit.
What do you mean by "too modern"?
@@h0nza_ personally, I've tried multiple settings as I play in a sludge/doom metal band and couldn't find the right settings to sit right in the mix. My dirt channel has 2 other fuzz pedals and I like to add more grit by adding some distortion innit at some parts of my bands stuff.
The reason why I said it's too modern because I feel that B3K sits right well in the mix for modern metal these days. Initially, I thought B3K could do wonders but I just couldn't find the right settings for my band.
The AfterShock fits right well with the 2 fuzz pedals that I own. Hope that clarifies everything.
@@ashekalley Yeah, I get your point! I'm just choosing between this and DG Alpha-Omega, so I've been curious about your opinion 😀
@@h0nza_ get the Alpha Omega. It's has better capabilities. Hehe
@@ashekalley I really don't know, it seems it loses low frequencies. What do you think?
Bought a Bass big muff and must admit this sounds better...
sold!
+Dustin Richardson 🤘🏻
Can you use 2 different distortions by using both inputs/outputs?
Can you get a nice early Chris Squire Tone
nahhh b7k Ultra for the Ultimate tone homie!!
NeppV he owns one.
Aftershock comes with BxK-esque engine so you can get pretty close to b7k with this :D
@@Yskyes For a whole lot less than that B7k as well lol
I like it!
+bflo1000 🤘🏻thanks!
And I thought I had it narrowed down............to Dark Glass (which is more expensive) or Blower Box..........What I like is the articulation AND the deep bass. I have a Behringer V-Tone 21 which is great for some grind and cheap, but these are better. How do you feel about DG B3K& Vintage & the Blower?
Does this sound OK plugged into direct-in recording? If so, does it change an active bass impedence?
+Keith S. This video is entirely direct.
It can be true bypass or buffered, you can switch it via the app. I did not notice any audible difference using either one.
Thank you for responding.
True bypass and buffered is only a variable if the pedal is being bypassed / is off. I'm still uncertain if it'll change the impedence; perhaps I'll email Source Audio.
Also thank you for the demo. Great playing and tone!
thinking of pairing this with my Power Fuzz Wah, or should I just go straight
through this
+WhiteMamba97 try it with both! Can never have too many pedals
How is the app?
+javier figueroa really simple and deep
Recently got one of these, besides a multi-effects stomp box its my first pedal. I've dialed in a great distortion tone but I'm looking for another to give a equally powerful clean tone, any got any suggestions? would be a great help, cheers
What you are looking is either an EQ pedal, a booster or a preamp...
Can you get something like 1:09 from OFD Bass Micromodeler?
Hey Adam I am a big fan of you videos! I was just wondering if you would recommend this pedal for a Muse Hysteria like tone?
+Kameron Farmer I haven't tried that exact effect through this yet. Since the real song uses an Animato it might get you close but not exact. Animato is a very unique pedal, but I think the overall 'feel' of the effect would be good enough.
Is that a stock Squier VM into the pedal straight into the computer? Sounds awesome
+Mark McIntyre yup. I keep everything as basic as possible as to not 'hype' the sound.
+Adam Aarts I used to have that bass in a 5 string. I liked it a lot! Sounded and played great.
most bass distortion pedals that I had like the big muff they lacked the low end that I really want I wonder if this one has it . or if anybody can recommend something for really dark Lows
+New Moon Awakening this can do big muff easily. As far as lows you can add in clean sound, clean sound with the highs cut (all low end), or even just EQ the dirty signal to have as much lows as you'd like.
Where did you get the drums from?
can i have the tabs for the song you played?
+Stolen Meme No sorry. Most of that was improv, I couldn't even tell you what I played.
+Adam Aarts sad, because it was great impruv. well done
were you using a preamp? if so which one?
+brandon walls Nope! Bass direct to pedal, then to Focusrite interface.
Can you do a comparison between the b3k and the simulator?
+kenneth conlon I don't have a B3K to compare, but from experience and having the B7K I can say that they don't sound exactly the same. The low mid scoop was out in a different spot on the Aftershock so it has its own sound. Very similar but different enough
Hey man! I had the B3K and I sold it for the Aftershock. To me, the B3K is too modern for my taste but it's still a great pedal though! I had it for like 3 years I think. :)
Is it better than the OFD?
+Demew pretty much. The OFD has two built in presets and more on board controls. Other than that the Aftershock is better. Phone app for all kinds of tweaking and preset saving, stereo in/out, smaller size, updated sounds, online sharing for presets, etc
God damn that sounded nice but cant afford, sad time
Does this mean you sold your Duality?
+SoseBass 11/2 I still have my Duality and B7K
+Adam Aarts oh ok sweet! I got the Duality and the TAFM as well as the Zvex Mastotron. But I am always looking for other options on the sly.
How do I get a death metal bass sound out of this???
lol, dude just fiddle with it until you like the sound for your band. there's no single "death metal bass sound." just whatever you do, don't scoop your mids or you will get lost in the drums and guitars.
Should be absolutely NO PROBLEM.
Just about to pull the trigger on one of these. Can you confirm I could assign one of the knobs to be like a gate control m? Like the sputter on a red witch or bias on the eqd dirt transmitter. Sorry for the questions, don't have these in Australia to try
+Isaac Berkuta I don't think a knob can be assigned for that. They are mostly EQ options, like bass, treble, mids, voicing, all having a frequency option and gain option. Plus distortion level and clean mix.
im confused now
It’s no dynamics
like !!!!!
