I was hoping for "Isn't She Lovely" but this one has such a great groove to it! Red Hot Chili Peppers did a remake of it which is pretty good but you can't beat Stevie! Three best album Grammys in four years for Stevie. If he'd split Songs in the Key of Life into two albums and released one of them a year earlier, he'd have been four-for-four (not that I think anything should be changed about Songs in the Key of Life).
Yes! I remember one year in the 1970's. Stevie received several nominations. He couldn't attend, so he asked Mayor Coleman Young of Detroit to attend and accept for him if he won. Well, Stevie kept winning one award after another. Finally, Mayor Young said "I haven't been this busy since the election."

This is one of those songs that needs to be heard through a powerful-assed system, with huge speakers and a turntable, at maximum volume.

Stevie Wonder-one of the greatest American musical artists of all-time. Phenomenal. The Red Hot Chili Peppers do an awesome cover of this song as well-one of the best cover songs in rock music. Obviously, they have great source material!
Indeed, the Chili's rock this tune to the moon. They also speak to Stevie during the tune, which shows mad respect.

Stevie was on Sesame Street when I was kid in the 70's. I've never known a world without Stevie Wonder. He is a national treasure.
That kid with the hair rocking out at the top of the stairs when Stevie performed on Sesame Street is the greatest thing ever caught on camera.

I mean, he didn't. Like he did for one or two songs in the 70s but everything else had an immense list of musicians who played on it

I would also put in a good word for some of the early Motown hits like “I Was Made To Love Her,” “Uptight,” and “For Once In My Life.”
You also can’t forget great ballads like “Lately” and “Overjoyed.”

I went to a Rock and Roll show in the early 60’s and a 13 year old kid named Little Stevie Wonder performed “Fingertips Part II”. He’s a living legend with great hits and this is no exception. It’s nice that young guys like you appreciate great music. Thank you guys.

Probably already mentioned in the comments, but he played every instrument. His left hand bass work on the Moog is incredible. So funky. My favorite for his bass is on Boogie on Reggae Woman.

Stevie Wonder is in a class almost all by himself. There is no other singer like him. He is in the top tier of recording artists along with The Beatles, and Elvis. They are above all others, having hit after hit of amazing quality. IMHO.
The first album I bought. So damn good. At 60, I still revisit Innervisions regularly. You are right at the threshold of a Stevie journey that will last for years. IMHO the best single artist of our time..best of travels to you both!

@@j.d.9010 Sometimes a song just comes pouring out of someone. Brian Wilson said he wrote "Caroline, no" in about the same amount of time it takes us to listen to it. Incredible. Also, interesting to note that as he was a blind child, Stevie's school counselors suggested basket weaving for him as a profession, thinking there was little else he'd be able to do. Amazing. But then no more amazing than the fact that Decca records auditioned the Beatles in 1962 and rejected them.

"'For Once In My Life", "Ribbon in the Sky", "Lately", "Superwoman", "My Cherie Amour", "Master Blaster" (Jammin). I could go on and on. He's been doing it since 1963 ("Uptight"). A true American musical legend/treasure. Saw him live twice. In the 70s and sometime in the late 80s under the stars and the Chicago skyline at Grant Park. And wow what an amazing concert that was, with nearly perfect sound that would rival any venue in the area. A standing room only field of tens of thousands of music lovers from every section of the city suburbs and country just groovin' to some Stevie. He must have done half his catalogue which is pretty extensive. One of those perfect nights. 💗 ✨

More Stevie please guys. He was God to me as a teenager in the 70's. Still is. To pluck out one track to recommend is impossible. His whole back catalogue of that period is fantastic.
Picking which Stevie Wonder song to play next is like asking to pick your favorite child and makes about as much sense as taking sand to the beach. Just play one. Stevie is a musical Mount Rushmore national treasure. The obstacles this man has avoided and conquered in his life and still “kept moving in the positive” is truly inspirational. Having said that, granted I haven’t seen all the comments and the songs thrown out there are all worthy but I didn’t see ‘Master Blaster’ but now I do.
Bought Music of my Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Songs in the Key of Life and Hotter than July when they were released in the 70s and early 80s. SW, like Steve Winwood is a legend and musical genius!

That Innervisions album is a masterpiece. There's so many more genius songs from him, every song mentioned in the comments need to be listened to. But for me "Living For The City" should be next.
"Sir Duke" next. No poll necessary. Nathan Watts' bass is the only thing that can keep up with Stevie's left hand. He even plays along with the horn lines. It's a must listen.

Whenever I'm asked who my favourite singer is, and there have so many great ones, it's always Stevie.
Stevie Wonder was such a phenomenal talent...a musical prodigy as a kid, he was a multi-instrumentalist as well as a gifted writer and vocalist. He could sing pop songs with a silky smooth voice, or bring the growl and the grit when singing funk. Like Marvin Gaye, he was equally adept writing love songs or social commentary. Living for the City (gotta be the long version) is a must. You Haven't done Nothin', I Wish, and Sir Duke are also standouts, but there are a bunch of 'em. Keep 'em coming!

Love your takes, great choice. Stevie makes every single sound on this song - vocals, drums, percussion, clavs, moog synth bass and whatever else is there. Other good Stevie includes Boogie On Raggae Woman and Too High (both feature his chromatic harmonica playing!) Great Latin vibe on Don't You Worry "Bout A Thing. Can't really go wrong with Stevie.

Little Stevie Wonder debuted on the charts with FINGERTIPS at the tender age 14, one of Barry Gordys' stable at Motown. He was all over the radio for 25 years, wrote all his material, and played ALL the instruments on his records. Top ten artist in the second half of the 20th Century.
I've been playing the bass guitar for thirty years and I grew up in the church playing gospel music and in my opinion, Stevie wonder is the greatest musician, songwriter and singer of all time
