there seems to be a hesitation to critique the show, everytime there is a legitimate grievance against the show, words are stumbling to come out, long pauses and candy coating. Guys, it’s perfectly okay to not like what youre seeing and just say it. Mike kept calling his “nitpicks” its not, its actual points, hes being REAL. Id rather that, than be the “everything is awesome” toxically positive team.
I agree with almost everything you said except for the very end. I don't know how trying to be positive is ever toxic in any way. Constant negativity is toxic, but constant positivity? No. It may annoy people, but toxic positivity makes no sense at all.
On the other hand i dont like when people instantly assume they are lying when they say they like something. What if they just genuinely fucking like it? Ever thought of that?
That's super fair, one of my friends dropped it after this episode as well. It's just not compelling... I'm going to stick with it but my expectations are so low that I just don't care lol
I’m almost there as well my brother. This is getting difficult to stomach. I LOVE Star Wars so much so I always find at least something enjoyable that I like in even the worst Star Wars content. Outside of Master Sol, this show has absolutely no redeeming qualities
I liked the bit where the fortress made of stone and metal caught fire… the stone walls and floors were literally on fire… ? 😂 didn’t realise it was that combustible.
@@justins1117I think you are giving too much credit to the writers. I think that was it. I hope you are wrong and come back in a few weeks to this comment and say I told you so because I won't be watching the show anymore. Too lazy and it feels Noone cares for the lore of star wars anymore.
Man, Andor just ages like a fine wine with every subsequent show that is released. It’s honestly laughable to think that it takes place in the same universe as these other absurd shows lol.
What part of Andor was cool though? The 15 fire pit scenes with the same exposition? The 15 cereal with mom scenes with the same exposition? The 30 working in prison scenes with the same exposition? In film school they teach you to not repeat scenes with the same message and this show does it to nausea!!!! Maybe the imperial dinner party with rebel spies that was insanely tense like a Tarantino scene? Oh wait they skipped that because it was far too difficult for the writers and show runners to do... Objectively not a good show. Just because they played it safe doesn't mean it was good. Again a waste of good actors and budget.
@@claykeough7898 Andor had what the fanbabies crying about the Acolyte SAY they want: excellent writing, excellent storytelling, excellent direction. Everyone says they want quality than when they get quality they say "BORING". And than they beg for Lucas to come back - the guy whose writing was "I hate sand". That is why everyone is losing respect for the dwindling fanbaby minority. They don't actually care about quality. It's all just performative outrage. 😂
@@jagerblitzen4017 that doesn't answer anything but okay bud. 😆 I've never heard anyone say remember that awesome scene in Andor or even saying they re-watched it. They just say it's amazing writing but can't say why????. So why is it good writing???? What part do you remember going WOW! THATS SOME RIVETING STUFF!?? I've given you great examples of objectively bad writing or things you're taught not to do when writing.
@@claykeough7898 Man people loved the prison break so much it gets reproduced at conventions by enormous crowds. Andor was absolutely inspiring. Luthen Rael's "I burn my life for a sunrise I'll never see" is iconic, one of the best monologues (in delivery and content) that the franchise has ever seen and people still talk about it to this day. The heist was thrilling, with gorgeous cinematography. There's so much to talk about with Andor (and does get talked about) that if all you remember is cereal bowls and bonfires, I feel bad for ya. Maybe it's time for a rewatch. ua-cam.com/video/y-bSdR9Mgkc/v-deo.htmlsi=tpbhtXZ0d2s31jRz
I can't believe that KK still has a job..... That woman treats biggest franchise in the world as a joke. Instead planning sequel trilogy in smallest details, she just said to every director to do with every movie what they want, not caring about continuity or destroying what came before. Let's not even begin with where STAR WARS is now. It doesn't matter if she has some financial wins, those wins are because STAR WARS was back after 10 years, and by the time people gave up on it thanks to her. Sure, Rogue One was great and Andor, first 2 seasons of Mando were good but it's all ruined in season 3 because she wanted Grogu back just to sell toys, even storywise there was no reason for bringing him back and everything where first 2 season led it was destroyed in season 3 because of her choices. She is not storyteller, she should be in charge for producing and not for making story decisions. She should give Filoni full power for canon stuff and bringing stories together, instead she said ''Do everyone anything you want'' There is no one reason this woman should stay. She doesn't care about canon, she knows nothing about why STAR WARS was special.... She literally calls fans names for not liking sequel trilogy. Well, how about giving Finn proper storyline and purpose?? How about writing Rey with a plan who she is?? Instead wasting great potential??? If we are what she calls us, why most of the fans love Leia, Ahsoka ( at least animated version ), Asajj Ventress, Padme, Lando Carissian, Mace Windu??? Don't use new actors as a shield if storytelling is terrible. Or better to say, now when damage is already done and there is no coming back, let's have a proper laughs at her decisions and she should be an example to other studios how not to treat their fans and biggest franchises in the world....
Wait.. How can you say she's not a good storyteller and shouldn't make story decisions and then complain she tells other people to do anything they want? Isn't it then the people "doing what they want" that shouldn't be storytellers? I mean, if she tells other people to write the stories you can't blame her for those story decisions. But I do agree they should find someone who cares more for the franchise. They need someone with a true passion for Star Wars who actually cares about the stories being told.
Kristian.... C'mon man ... I think you need to rewatch Phantom Menace. The Jedi did not forcefully try to take Anakin. Shmee wanted him to go with them for a better life. AND he was even THE CHOSEN ONE. And that was after Qui Gonn's dying wish that he be trained as a Jedi.
He didn't forcefully take Anakin, but he also didn't even try to save Shmi. I always thought that was weird, but this is fleshing out the real Jedi objective, which I appreciate
I think like rings of power, the acolyte will see a lot of the people who gave it a chance simply tap out and not finish the show. It will likely get overshadowed by House of the Dragon coming back + the Boys.
kristian you guys missed that the jedi padwawn at the end on the ship had a scar on his face but he didn't have that scar earlier he also says "we thought we were doing the right thing mae." before he killed himself, i think were going to see this story from multiple views
It’s 💯 Rashomon because we just saw one persons perspective this episode we need see all from the the other sisters and then the Jedi side to get the complete story
@@Sticks017Good catch, but I would also say there's still a point that could be made that he could have adopted them with a tweak on their naming. Either way, I'm not bothered by the simplicity of just calling them witches, at the end of the day the analogy is still that there are at least 3 major sects all using the Force in slightly different ways: warrior monk like Jedi, power hungry Sith, and secluded Witches.
@@Sticks017 I know you're not. You were strictly giving a factoid and I appreciate it. I was opining a little further that when adopting something from lore, they always have the option to switch things up a tad and they chose not to (or it never occurred to them at the time), but I get Kristian's point about it. Granted, hindsight is 20/20 and no one could predict "people" would have a problem with them being named such.
Sorry, Kristian, but the writing, directing, and pacing are bad and a bit clumsy. It definitely feels like a CW young adult show cosplaying on Hollywood Blvd posing for pictures with tourists on a Saturday night.
Have to disagree and it sounds like someone just wants to hate the show. The writing is great to say the least. the dialog and conversation is really natural and keeps the viewer attentive, all of the exposition so far has made the fire more interesting to say.. What really happened.
I get why Steph might feel that way about being a jedi is cool to not wanting to be one after the way they are portrayed here and in prequels. However, I think it shows that they are flawed individuals, and its what make characters like Ahsoka or Kanan Jarus or Qui Gonn so likeable because they were genuinely good and didn't stick to the politics or logistics of what led to their downfall.
@@captainDJ87 I agree with that, I was curious what the previous commenter thought of the acolyte rather than using a sopranos example. It’s just about making clear the difference between bad WRITING and mortally bad character because it can get very confusing in the comment section 😅
I’m sad that this is the last in-studio show, but I've loved watching The Sith Council for years now, and I’m happy and grateful that it’ll continue. Y’all are my favorite show to watch regularly. Much love to my favorite YT people.
I am not sure where I land on this yet, but definitely not meeting my expectations (which is on me). What really got me thinking, was yours and Steff's comments about no longer wanting to be a Jedi. Modern Star Wars has definitely not been kind to the Jedi. I get the whole Hubris thing, but its starting to feel a lot like the Zack Synder take on Superman. While interesting to some extent, I would really like to see hopeful and good Jedi again (as is my hope with Gunn's Superman) that my kids would like to dress up as. Much love to the channel and all of you!
I'm with Mike about Osha. I keep thinking Occupational Health and Safety Administration when I hear her name. I'm in the same boat with Kristia. I don't want Koril to be the Sith controlling Mae. So far I'm neutral about this series, but it is in last place for things I'm excited to watch this month which is jam packed with great stuff coming out.
I'm going to save u 53 minutes of ur time every time they want to criticize the show they're scared cuz Disney would shoot their asses except the girl shell consume any Disney media and say its Cinema.
This show could have had a simple and effective story. A Sith apprentice is training an Acolyte behind the scenes. Together they plot to take out the Sith master and the Jedi. Instead, we are getting a bad story with annoying kids. Headland's agenda is put as priority instead of story.
'We have 47yrs of how "the Force" works by George Lucas, and it takes one episode to try to explain what "the Force" now is?!' In current Star Wars canon, the power to create life via the direct manipulation of the Force is considered a near-impossible feat, even for the most storied of its users. So much so, in fact, that prior to The Acolyte‘s third episode, there had only ever been one individual who was reportedly able to pull it off: the infamous Sith Lord Darth Plagueis. Regardless of this fun bit of EU trivia, thanks to The Acolyte showrunner Leslye Headland, Plagueis is no longer the first Force user to manipulate the universal life energy to create life. Instead, that honor now belongs to the newly-introduced leader of an unknown band of Force sensitive witches (who for some bizarre reason aren’t Nightsisters, because sure, Disney, why not).
It’s just like how they randomly threw force healing and even bringing people back from the dead into TROS. Cheapens all the training we’ve seen Jedi to do to strive and achieve such great feats. And completely undermines Anakin’s main struggle before his turn to the dark side. Disney keeps undermining and cheapening everything that made the IP intriguing and compelling for decades.
Well that's not true. The force changed between the OT and the prequels. The midichlorian count wasn't there before, there has never been a consistent established explanation of what the force is and hate to tell you it's gonna be subject to change in the future aswell. These complaints aren't new, the discussions have been there since 99'
@@musayibghani3986 it’s not about changes… it’s about relative consistency. I urge you to look Into Brandon Sanderson discussions of creating “magic systems” in fiction. Yes the force has changed or been interpreted differently in different stories during Lucas’s era… but the ways it was used and the relative power scale was intact enough to enable the suspension of disbelief which is needed to get invested in this type of story, and to create compelling stories within the fictional universe. When you start bringing in characters who are over powered in the force to the point of breaking the relative power scale… for example: Rey who can force heal all of a sudden in TROS. we have no context for how she learned to do this or why others previous couldn’t achieve it (even Anakin who had force healing as his singular goal). It shatters the suspension of disbelief, pulls you out of the narrative and undermines the audiences experience. In other words… it cheapens everything before it. It’s not a matter of impassioned fans bickering over different story lines or force interpretation(which has always been an aspect of Star Wars fandom). It’s a matter of extremely poorly written content on the part of the creators currently running Lucasfilm.
They said it was Kill Bill meets Frozen. Clearly the Jedi came to collect both children while Osha is running from the fire, they get into a scuffle, Jedi, outnumbered, down some witches with lightsabers before the fire exacerbates things. Receding hairline Jedi got scarred feels guilt, he probably started things off. Why else was Sol there so quickly after the fire started? The jedi had already come. Mae saw the Jedi scuffle. Osha didnt. Both assume the other dropped in the shaft. The show is ass. There is no story here, only messaging. This is a communications project, not a show.
I’m so glad you mentioned the Yoda problem!!! If he’s grand master or even a council member it makes zero sense why he wouldn’t be involved in what’s happening. Almost the same problem with Ahsoka not going to Luke for help when she finds out the Empire is still around after RotJ
With the MCU I’ve started to just watch the things I’m interested in. Still haven’t watched Miss. Marvel or moon Knight. But I’ve always watched the live action Star Wars series’ I haven’t loved it all but there’s been enough to keep me coming back. The Acolyte might be the one to change that. There’s still moments I like but it’s borderline at the moment. I hope it picks up because I love Star Wars
Hmm I am not sure if anyone of these reviewers have played the Star Wars games made by EA. Both jedi games have nightsisters who are force/magic users. Though I think all of them belong to the same race in those games. Having said that I thought the start of this episode was better than the end. Its a lot of time to use whole episode for a backstory that could have been condensed into flashbacks during other episodes.
I love Star Wars, but the Acolyte caused me to cancel my Disney plus premium sub. It is so dumb, in terms of the writing, and what I mean by that is it is dumb in terms of structure and logic, it is also very predictable and too on the nose. The actors are good, but the direction makes them look bad. The reason the space witches all died in a place made of rock by fire, is because we all know they use the thread and material can be highly flammable. 😂 Why didn't they just go outside? Why did Sol not just use the force to lift the falling girl? Also that scene with the singing witches, was the worst thing I have seen in Star Wars other than the cringey, Leia running scene. I enjoyed the show. You got a subscriber. My hope is one day, someone else buys Disney or Star Wars and takes both back to their core values of serving a good story first. Maybe one day we will get Old Republic, cool Sith and Jedi lore and until then I have my 6 movies on blu ray and my legends books to enjoy. As a fan of over 43 years it is pretty heartbreaking to see what Disney and Lucasfilm have done with Star Wars.
This episode also didn’t really progress the story much. We already knew that Mae started the fire, and Osha left with the Jedi. We learned a bit about the witches, but not much else. Unless they show us something different to what we were told, I don’t understand why we needed to see something we already knew.
"I'll Never Turn to the Dark Side. You Failed, Your Highness. I Am a Jedi like My Father Before Me.” riiiiight...the legacy not holding up since Disney got their hands on it. very much a bummer.
The writers have said that the show is going to have the Rashomon effect to it. Where the show is told from multiple perspectives before we can get behind the actual events of the story. So yeah while all have a hard time buying that the fire by Mae caused the deaths of the witches, we will see how that event actually went. We saw things from mostly Verosha’s perspective this episode, rarely from Mae’s or anyone else’s.
Yeah same here..was gonna give it til episode 5 to pull me in..but after watching episode 3 I'm checking out im done..this is not Star Wars and doesn't feel like it
I thought it was going to be a fight club situation, but I can see I definitely gave it more credit than it deserved.. “Oh twins” just like Mike’s reaction. I really wanted to love this show! I even talked a friend into watching it, who hasn’t given any of the Star Wars shows a chance.. I feel terrible 😢
Story so obvious, from a DEI point of view. The Jedi will be proven to be evil mass murderers, the DEI Witches the oppressed good g… er people. The surviving “Mom” witch will be the “surprise “ Sith. Oh what a twist. No way anyone could have predicted this. Well, if you don’t count half the population of the world, then nobody could have predicted this.
How long can Disney and Lucasfilm keep spending $180 mil on 8 episodes of content that garners low viewership numbers and low viewer ratings? They could have made 20 Godzilla Ones for the price of 8 episodes of the Acolyte. The writing and dialogue is bad. Some of the acting performances are flat. Characters contradict themselves within episodes. It feels like a CW show made by an inexperienced writer and director.
I thought this was the worst Episode of Star Wars I’ve seen. I’m not into the Jedi being bad guys trope, not into the Witch aspect, character motivations seem confusing, lots of cringeworthy moments like ‘the chanting’, use of the force looks like ‘air bending’, just nothing to get excited about other than some good action in places.
Great review, I mostly feel the same way as you. I’m not crazy about the story, but I think the show looks great (except for a few scenes), the music is good (except for the Witches ritual chanting, that completely took me out of the moment) and I LOVE Lee Jung-jae. I’m hoping there are one or two more episodes that portray the events in Ep 3 from the Witches perspective and the Jedi’s perspective in the style of Rashomon. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see you live in NYC Kristian 😊!!!
Love the discussions in this video... I've said this in other places, I personally don't hate this series, but I do feel the story is just not being told very well consistently... I don't blame the actors, as many are doing the best they can under the circumstances... This particular episode while it feels like the acting is a bit better, outside of the children, I still feel like they are exposition dumping half the time, rather than making us feel connected to the characters enough... The momma character really takes center stage in this episode, and she makes you feel empathy towards he character... She is so obviously the nurturer between the 2 parents... I would almost equate her to being the head of a dark side using cult, but she doesn't necessarily have dark intentions per se... It could just be a facade, and she could just end up being the most, evil intentioned character of all... With the strict and super protective mother, just being a red heiring... But it's hard to know, as thus far the story hasn't been that masterful in it's presentation of anything that nuanced... Obviously, there is more going on than what they're telling us in this episode... But does it pull me in enough to feel anxious and excited for the rest of the season, not really... The plot concepts thus far have been mostly intriguing, but it's just the execution that makes it sort of ehhh... With the plot holes, continuity issues, and mistakes that should have been caught in editing/post-production, it brings the good stuff down too many pegs for it to be a decent story in the Star Wars universe... I don't expect a bunch of force user on force user battles, or tons of fighting, or SFX crazyiness all the time... But I do expect a story that hooks you, and I don't feel that so far... I don't even get a very good sense of connection with who I'm guessing is the protagonist/antagonist of the story, the twins... As to the whole force vs thread business... I can have suspension of dis-belief, in that the witches thread ideas are really just another philosophical view/take on the force... They just manipulate and use the force in a different way, and call it something else, and that is how I can justify it's existence in my head... So, that aspect is not really an issue for me, and in that way, it doesn't really break any cannon... It's still what the Jedi and Sith call the Force, but from a different point of view... The concept of creating a living being by using the Force/Thread/etc, isn't something new, as we see it in other stories prior to Disney's involvement... That being said, as it isn't an original idea, I feel the use of this trope was only used to fulfill an agenda, over being used to tell a compelling story that adds to the Star Wars Universe/Cannon... Do I hate the idea entirely? Not really, but I don't feel, in this case, that it's use was unique and genuine, or comes from a place of intending to entertain the overall masses... Kinda feels a bit spiteful, given the political messaging hype prior to the show, and is being used as a vehicle, more then to tell a fun story... But hey, this is fiction, and so I don't hate it or like it... There were so many directions they could have taken it, and this is just the direction the writers decided to go with... I'm sure some folks loved it, so no bigs... I believe that if folks love a show, even if I don't, that is completely awesome... Everyone is different, and that's a good thing... Thanks to the speakers for putting this video together, as it is always cool to hear varying points of view...
I will forever miss how much I loved Star Wars. It’s been the better part of a decade since I’ve enjoyed anything beyond minor scenes in this franchise…
Omg the name Osha bothers me too for those exact reasons haha that name is synonymous with health inspection n sh**. Osha violations is what that name reminds me of
😂 bro, the actual OSHA is as annoying in real life as kid OSHA is in the show. When I was hearing her younger self talk I just kept feeling the urge to check my halway for an MSDS book 😂... oh excuse me... I mean SDS book, dont fire me OSHA! 😂. Adult OSHA seems like a really fun character though. I don't know if I'm buying this character as a lead of a story but she'd be an awesome sidekick
Episode 3 is one of the worst shows ive ever seen. The acting is wooden, the writing is juvenile, the story is choppy. It feels like a bad play... Everything feels forced and under budget
MIKES BIG GULP making me thirsty! Im not impressed with Acolyte but I can't wait until Harloffs reaction when he's right about the sith and he's pissed.
I was always asking for this, and I for one am glad my prayers have been answered, but York has that awesome Patrick Mahomes hair thing going on and I just melted
The scene when the Jedi walk in initially, and the tension in the scene with the awesome score. One of my favourite Star Wars scenes. Aside from that, this story isn't very intriguing. Especially since I'm more of a lore guy when it comes to Star Wars and in general, the tension that scene had was a rare gem in Star Wars these days. I need more of the umph and unpredictability.
I hope one day star wars and marvel gets their integrity back. It's going to take cleaning house but perhaps one day again. Fingers crossed that time comes and until then they've lost a customer in me.
Lordy, so off I went to watch the "Benny Hill" and found it with the benefit of spotting a comment under that clip that says watch it a 1.5 speed. Damnit Kristian ... I can't unsee that now and I loved that little girl in Obi Wan.
I have to respectfully disagree. I don’t think it’s written well, my wife and I have looked at each other more than 10 times in 3 episodes like wtf?!? lol
I know what you doing . You being neutral cuz you want to get invited to Andor season 2 premiere . It’s okay brother I understand ! The only Star Wars I’m excited about is Andor season 2
Mae isn’t the apprentice, Smilo Ren is. That Sith Apprentice is serving their master. The Sith Apprentice is recruiting Mae (The Acolyte) to overthrow their master.
So, I like this show but I don't love it. It's not pissing me off like it is a lot of people. If by the end we find out the Jedi murdered the witches to get the girls, I'll be out. If they don't have a good explanation that doesn't explain how the girls were created, I'll be out. Amazon should be special. But I'm willing to ride it out and see the end of the story they're trying to tell.
45:40 Including the usual long-ass credits. Net length is maybe 30 minutes each, and I for one very much feel how short they are. Especially episode 3, as I was waiting in vain for something surprising and/or amazing to happen. It's a barely fleshed out presentation of the backstory Osha and Sol had already told us multiple times, which makes it utterly pointless. They should've mixed in the potentially actually interesting other side's perspective in this episode instead of shelving it for later (after people have stopped watching).
Thank God for Mike being the voice of reason and sanity on this show. Every time I hear the name OSHA, it's completely taking me out of the show because I'm thinking of the government agency and not the character. The writing and the "acting" on this show are laughably terrible. I feel bad for anyone who has to continue watching this for their job.
How TF u skip over the fact that 2 female created twin girls with the FORCE!!! An ability not even Palpatine couldnt do 100yrs after this! (Btw Palps didnt create Anakin so stop fan theorising that)
Good luck with the move. I just moved 5 hours away from where I was living and it was challenging to say the least. I don’t want to imagine moving cross country.
i'm loving this show tbh, i think mostly because it's all new characters. Amandla and JJ are very charming leads, they carry the show for me. Amandla's absence in Episode 3 was heavily felt imo.
Kristian, I think you could have a whole playlist of episode recaps in the way you recapped the segment at 40:10 LOL “You know the rules, give us the kids” Lolol
The acolyte episode 3 was a propaganda show for lqbt+. The show we want is Andor with lightsaber. I liked episode 1-2 but ep 3 was just wierd.. You can tell that by watching this show that it is created by a lesbian.
Mike, the only turn in Star Wars we got was Kylo Ren unexpectedly killing Snoke. And people didn't like it. And of course, now they complain when we don't get those shocking moments. Same with Marvel, people complained about all the risks the MCU took in Phase 4, and criticized them, but then criticize them more when they feel like "everything is the same."
I like how you approach the show. It has many shortcomings, but it is still interesting. It is only sad that there is so much hate online instead of normal conversation. Mike is funny as always. OSHA 😂
I’m really surprised by how low quality The Acolyte is. Leslie’s excellent Netflix series, Russian Doll, wipes the floor with her SW series. STOP MAKING THESE STAR WARS TV SERIES FOR KIDS! Write them with adults in mind and you’ll get far better results.
In 3 episodes we had Campfires in space - Obese Jedi - A Jedi killing himself - Space lesbians making babies with The Force - An all female musical scene - A stone temple built on rock burning down - The retcon of The Chosen One prophecy
I'm kinda enjoying this show, and some of the things I have seen intrigued me. As for the comments that came about during the discussions... Having read the new Thrawn novels, there are others that use the force (The Beyond/The Great Presence) in other ways that are not the Jedi/Sith ways, so seeing the coven use one specific part of the force didn't bother me. I have known twins who want to be completely different/independent and others who just can't be without the each other. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season, as I want to see how things play out, as I know that there are things that are going to be explained/shown which will answer the questions that we now have. Although I for some reason think that we are going to get a double switch with the twins! I think Osha is going to go to the dark side, and Mae will come to the light!
Seeing Mike slowly lose it, and then when he finally snapped and flipped off the audience, that was such an epic turn. Smets is arguably the better player but there would have been no IG division if it wasn't for Mike. It was nice to revisit that at the beginning of this episode. Looking forward to Mikes take on The Acolyte.
Kristian, I’m also a HUGE Darth Bane trilogy fan. But I think you have some expectations about this show that have influenced some of your opinions in a negative light. I have my nit-picks too but I can genuinely say I’m interested to see where this story and these characters go.
C'mon Kristian...🤷🏽♂️ Spending 53 minutes trying to explain what transpired in this episode, when it's nightmarishly bad from start to finish and makes no sense at all...🤦🏽♂️ After 1 episode it was clear that the showrunners didn't understand the IP, and are clearly winging it as they go...
I'm shocked such true fans as these like this show. I know they lean way left but still. Very disappointing with these reviews. The girl admitting she loves queen shit and still doesn't like this story is probably the only honest thought on this panel
Srry Harloff, I am following you since Jedi Council#1 ...but this SW hard criticism is tedious . Did you see New Rockstar video about ep3 ? That is a SW breakdown, everybody on UA-cam who were not in Lucasfilm presentations are sad online?
42:50 The problem is not production value and budget. Its some SW series directors , the dont know how to frame characters in sets, they dont let the scene breath and get its vibe. The first entrance of 4 Jedis on this episode is a perfect example of bad directing
Episode 3 looks to be viewed from the perception of Osha! I think we will see different points of view on what happened that night. When you watch or tell a murder mystery story the director does throw in many different vantage points of the mystery to see it from different points of view. I think that is what Hedland is doing here and we will get to what actually happened probably in episode 6 or 7.
A show getting so much shit when we’re only 3 episodes into it is silly to me. I’ve liked the show for the most part but some criticisms are absolutely valid. However, lot of the things I’ve seen are either nitpicks or could be easily explained in the next 5 episodes. We’re not even halfway into the show yet.
If a show doesn’t grab me within the first 3 episodes I’m usually out…I’m not comparing but like breaking bad first episode your in. Sopranos first episode I’m in. Shogun first episode I’m in…you know what I mean? Lol
@@ltdanslostlegs yeah I absolutely get what you mean. I wouldn’t say I’m hooked like with those shows, but I’m interested enough and like it enough to keep watching. But if you’re not, I get it. My comment was more directed at all of the nitpicks I’m seeing, and the complaining about story elements that I think the show is going to explain as it goes on.
Tbh I got the whole hide kids as the jedi like to come take them but if you consider them maybe early night sisters then whole convent also makes sense. However, why does it need to be an all female convent if they are not night sisters? Why were these girls born of the force? Why do neither of them have horns of the horned lady was actual mother? Why did her drawings have a Rebel symbol in it? Why did she try and murder her sister? Why did they meet up after the fire started if one wanted the other dead? What was that tube she escaped through? Why did it need hacking when it wasn't damaged? Why was there such a large tunnel behind the tube? Why did the jedi turn up at all when the fire started? How does a fire spread to the core power unit? Why was there fire on a lamp to begin with when they have electrical lighting? The build up to then was OK, but the last minutes were just moronic.
there seems to be a hesitation to critique the show, everytime there is a legitimate grievance against the show, words are stumbling to come out, long pauses and candy coating. Guys, it’s perfectly okay to not like what youre seeing and just say it. Mike kept calling his “nitpicks” its not, its actual points, hes being REAL. Id rather that, than be the “everything is awesome” toxically positive team.
Well Well said👍🏻👍🏻
I agree with almost everything you said except for the very end.

No YOU think it's a fire there are some that like the show.
She should give Filoni full power for canon stuff and bringing stories together, instead she said ''Do everyone anything you want''
There is no one reason this woman should stay.
Kennedy still has her job because Lucas handpicked her himself. Iger is probably reluctant to drop her because of that.
i agree with the majority of this except the filoni part. he can't do live action, watch ashoka, he is not the answer
The problem isn't just KK. It's also the higher-ups at Disney as well.
It feels like they feel bad to actually say something bad.
Yeah, it was Anakin’s choice honestly.
But the dumbass jedi fight it every step of the way
Qui gon didn't forcefully take anakin, but the jedi did forcefully take force sensitive children. This is canon...
You know this dude isnt really a star wars fan
He didn't forcefully take Anakin, but he also didn't even try to save Shmi. I always thought that was weird, but this is fleshing out the real Jedi objective, which I appreciate
I think like rings of power, the acolyte will see a lot of the people who gave it a chance simply tap out and not finish the show. It will likely get overshadowed by House of the Dragon coming back + the Boys.

Sorry, Kristian, but the writing, directing, and pacing are bad and a bit clumsy. It definitely feels like a CW young adult show cosplaying on Hollywood Blvd posing for pictures with tourists on a Saturday night.
I find it incredible that with a budget of a 180 million dollars Lucasfilm managed to make it look cheap.
I agree. The writing was the worst part of Acolyte. Episode 3 should have come before 1 & 2.

This show could have had a simple and effective story. A Sith apprentice is training an Acolyte behind the scenes. Together they plot to take out the Sith master and the Jedi. Instead, we are getting a bad story with annoying kids. Headland's agenda is put as priority instead of story.
Thank you don't you love how a bad scripts can be protected by studios attacking fans for recognizing bad writing.😅
We dont know how the kids were conceived yet exactly so calm down
It’s just like how they randomly threw force healing and even bringing people back from the dead into TROS.
Plagueis didn't create life. He tried it and the force itself reacted to his attempts and created Anakin as the chosen one.
Mae is Macaulay Culkin in the movie The Good Son
Carrie Ann moss is the Sith Lord who faked her death. Cause we all know getting stabbed in the stomach doesn’t kill people in Star Wars anymore.
😅😂😂
Lucasfilm has turned fighting with lightsabers into fighting with pool noodles. All they're going to do is slap each other around.

Why didn't they just go outside?

Really wanted to enjoy this show but I honestly think it’s really bad but I’ll wait for the season to be over to give it a fair chance

I know what you doing . You being neutral cuz you want to get invited to Andor season 2 premiere . It’s okay brother I understand ! The only Star Wars I’m excited about is Andor season 2
Mae isn’t the apprentice,
Smilo Ren is.
That Sith Apprentice is serving their master.
The Sith Apprentice is recruiting Mae (The Acolyte) to overthrow their master.
I wonder who the Master is.
Kristian not realizing Disney hates Star Wars so much that they had the Jedi kill all the witches…
I love the part when Sol said “Mae the force be with you”. My whole family stood up clapping.
Harloff didn't consider it a thing but the naming felt very intentional. She's literally a mechanic.
Yes anyone who doesn’t have a visceral reaction to the word “OSHA,” have you been under a rock? 🤣
Kristian probably never had to work a real job in his life
How TF u skip over the fact that 2 female created twin girls with the FORCE!!!
Kristian, I think you could have a whole playlist of episode recaps in the way you recapped the segment at 40:10 LOL
“You know the rules, give us the kids” Lolol
The Big Gulp is Back!! And of course the Sith Council Crew Baby! Everyone needs to move to NY to be together! Much love! #2fingertoots 4Eva!🙌🏽💯‼️🔥
People criticise just to criticise…
I like how you approach the show. It has many shortcomings, but it is still interesting. It is only sad that there is so much hate online instead of normal conversation.
Mike is funny as always. OSHA 😂
Dude has no idea what makes Star Wars Star Wars and how they’ve totally screwed it all up
I’m really surprised by how low quality The Acolyte is. Leslie’s excellent Netflix series, Russian Doll, wipes the floor with her SW series. STOP MAKING THESE STAR WARS TV SERIES FOR KIDS! Write them with adults in mind and you’ll get far better results.
In 3 episodes we had Campfires in space
- Obese Jedi
- A Jedi killing himself
- Space lesbians making babies with The Force
- An all female musical scene
- A stone temple built on rock burning down
- The retcon of The Chosen One prophecy
True.. Ironically the most memorable Disney Star Wars project to date.. For all the wrong reasons...
I just love how people now have to pretend that they are so amazed by gay shows, movies or whatever
"It's checking all the boxes you should love it" unironically said on this very show. Liberals am I right?
Love listening to you guys talk about Star Wars, even if you don't have the best material to work with. I was kinda bored with this episode.
Kristian, I’m also a HUGE Darth Bane trilogy fan. But I think you have some expectations about this show that have influenced some of your opinions in a negative light. I have my nit-picks too but I can genuinely say I’m interested to see where this story and these characters go.
C'mon Kristian...🤷🏽♂️ Spending 53 minutes trying to explain what transpired in this episode, when it's nightmarishly bad from start to finish and makes no sense at all...🤦🏽♂️
After 1 episode it was clear that the showrunners didn't understand the IP, and are clearly winging it as they go...
The Acolyte is cool
Totally agree.
Oh I’m totally finishing it!!! Just wish I LOVED it
@@heathjones_ How manyyyyyyyy nitpicks have you seen? hehe
