    Hey ya'll! Today on my channel we are reacting to some shady MLM scams getting called out on social media. Multi-level marketing scams are EVERYWERE and extremely annoying. Arbonne, Younique, Monat, Mary Kay, the last goes on and on. But there's an entire reddit group dedicated to exposing and calling out MLMs and we're going to laugh at the screenshots today. Enjoy :)

    They are basically cults. I've lost several friends to these things. They stop seeing people as friends and family and start seeing them as potential clients and business opportunities. When my parents died, I had a former friend text me on the day of their funeral about her MLM scheme. It was so inappropriate and was honestly really sad to me. All she could talk about was her "business" and while she actually did make decent money selling the stuff, it was sad to watch her become a totally different person.

I see people posting things about how real friends support one another’s businesses (by buying), and while I do support friends and family when they have something I want to buy, I often either just am not interested in what they are selling or don’t have the funds. Also, if it even seems like an mlm the tiniest bit, I avoid like the plague.

      @@ramirogarza3rd Lol spoken like a true cult member. I'm sorry, but I have lost multiple friends to these things as I said because they no longer treated me as a friend but as a business opportunity. Every interaction somehow turned back toward their business and trying to sell me stuff or trying to get me to join no matter how many times I said I wasn't interested. They went from being interesting people with hobbies and the ability to talk about normal things to only being able to push and talk about their cult. It sucked up their entire lives. They completely changed. I've known some of these people for ten plus years. You really think that selling nail stickers or cleaning products or oils somehow brings out a person's true personality? Really? They go from being people who can carry on normal conversations to people who are slathered in oils and smell so strong you can't even get near them and that can only talk about how life changing the oils have been. So I guess if somehow this is the "real them" then it's not for me... or the as of now 289 people who liked this comment.

That felt kinda sleezy to me. And I realized you CAN NOT make a decent living unless you sign a ton of people up under you, for most of these companies it's a major focus on the signups and not the product. Which is what makes it a pyramid scheme. 💛

      It doesn't always end up in debt, however a person has to work hard just to stay even. I know a couple where the husband makes enough money for the two of them to live comfortably. The wife is doing her MLM and just making enough to remain even. She works hard at it. The husband tells me she doesn't add anything to their income by doing it, he's just glad she has something to do while he's working and not out spending everything he makes.

      My sister and brother-in-law are still working their same retail/restaurant jobs they've had for like 15 years while also trying to push their "not an mlm" mlm bs on the rest of our family... Getting more and more upset, hurt, and made that we don't "support them" and "don't care enough about them!" Now, when we have tried to buy something we'd normally buy, but do it through their website, it was the most difficult, asinine, buggy, time-consuming thing ever and we had to call them repeatedly for help to just log in and checkout, etc... while they are 6-7 hours behind us!!! I managed to do this successfully once with a vacuum cleaner. he then tried pressuring me to order everyday things like toilet paper, etc., through her website; I was working long, hard hours at the office trying to support my then-husband and my young son and we had no disposable income! (They had even lived with us for a while right after they graduated college, so knew this firsthand!)
      A few years later, we found out that even though they never came to see our parents because "traveling to the mainland is too expensive", they were constantly flying all over the US for seminars and conventions, or whatever they're called, for their mlm! Then, they had the audacity to tell us that if we were to get them a Christmas gift, it needed to be through their website or they didn't want it and if they got another Amazon gift card, they were going to be upset, " since Amazon is their #1 competitor" (wtf, um... No. Just, no.) and they would throw it away!!! We stopped sending presents. In the last decade, we've only seen them twice: for a wedding reception for them and for our funeral. We barely even chat with them in the family chats; it's so sad.

      @@kstreet This is why atheists are much less likely to join a scam like this. It does happen, of course, but the religious- in particular the highly religious- are way more susceptible. Once you let magical thinking be a big influence in your life and put way too much stock into "feeling in your heart", you're well on your way to fall for a scam like this. The fusion of religion and MLM is not incidental: churches are a golden opportunity for huns and things like "Monat ministries" are bizarre but make perfect sense, given everything.

    As someone who has spent my whole life being extremely sensitive to fragrances and certain smells, the teacher diffusing oils in the classroom makes me furious. I suffered horribly when all my classmates discovered germ-x scents and then again at my current job with my bosses and their goddamn wax melts.
    PLEASE RECIGNIZE THAT FRAGRANCE ALLERGIES DO EXIST AND SOME OILS ARE PART OF THAT

    • @cristyablad
      @cristyablad Рік тому +1

      Bro I know this is many months later, but SAME. No scent sensitivities, just allergies. I worked in a well paying job and even then about 1/3 of the women in the department were sidelining gigs as doTERRA sales (an essential oils mlm) and VERY MUCH overused their products and then the ones who weren't selling were buying into it so at least 2/3 of the women and a couple men in the department had oils going heavily all the time. I was ALLERGIC AF to most of them. Work became a literal haze of blurry, eye-watering, itching, sneezing, can't breathe torture. I asked those closest to me to tone it down but DANG it was like I was asking them to cut off a finger. Finally I went to my manager and said please I'm begging you I am so allergic (she had oils going in her room at the time). Her response: "There's no way you can be allergic to these - they're all natural!!!" She wasn't a dealer just a user but what a dumb statement. Because of course people are NEVER allergic to anything in nature and that's how it works right?
      Your comment just made me think of it, that's all. Luck wished to you for 2023!

The way they hype up the crowd, talk about all these hierarchy(hello pyramid scheme), getting rich and calling people up to hype everyone up, the expensive cars, homes and trips all these successful members have, the potential vacations you can win, etc. I felt like they were gonna offer a Kool-aid at the end lol I told my mum we should leave.
