I dig the Pocket Metal, through a zeroed out chorus as a filter. A lot of Joyo circuits are available at as little as half the price, from Saphue, Kmise and a few others that are literally the same pedal, with different branding.

So, its actually using Joyo OEM circuit boards. Not to be confused with the Joyo Crunch Distortion, which is a MI Crunchbox clone(yeah, weird and confusing naming scheme). To my knowledge, though, all the other Joyo licensed and OEM circuits have the same name as the Joyo.

indeed some HB pieces are good, others only average. But keep in mind that Solar Guitars have lots of output and the used valve amp is a high quality device so the cab is too. If ones gear is no of such fine quality the results in guitar tone may vary alot.
I got one of these last year, after finding put that the distorsion on my Blackstar Fly3 was very medioker. I absolutely love this pedal! The sound is as good as the price, it fits well in my tiny, cheap, rig.
There is a lot to be said from this group of pedals. The "British" pedal (Marshall-in-a-box) in this range is as broad a distortion as you'd need, in front of an amp or desk. For less than £40. Perfect!
I have a Joyo British Sound, for a price range about 30$, i can say i'm very impressed from that thing. Use it with the Joyo Ultimate Drive (25$) to boost the British Sound, or using the old Zoom G1 for cabinet sim + chorus + delay + reverb. Right now I'm saving money for Joyo Oxford Sound (Orange Amp Model)

That's an exact copy of the Joyo extreme metal , and it definitely chugs. I use it all the time. Both buttons on with a distortion or TS9 for serious crunch!

After you discovered (or publicized at least), that the metal zone sounds good when used as a preamp going into the effects return, I'm surprised we haven't had more demos/reviews distortions/overdrives that test both in front of the amp and into the return
I personally love HB stuff. This pedal sounds nice too, specially for the money. I have 2 guitars of them, and i love em. First gotta learn to actually play, and safe up money to some day get myself a Solar. But HB is making it difficult with so many nice guitars that one can buy without really thinking about it too much.
I think that boost is for leads, leave the boost knob low and you won't need to turn down the high eq. That way it just gives lift on the high end a bit so the lead solo can cut through then disengage for the riffage! :D
I have the Joyo extreme metal which is basically the same as the HB extreme metal. I compared it with my EHX nano metal muff and the EHX metal with top boost the JOYO is my favorite out of the three but they're all great for chugs
Hi Ola. I think you can, in theory, make the screechy boost work (even with highs all the way up) if you dial back the boost knob. Be sure to try it out when you have some spare time on your hands!
I finally got one of these pedals a couple of weeks ago, and have to say I am very impressed with the sound I'm getting from plugging my Kramer 7 string through it. I do agree with what you say about the boost feature on this, but overall I think it's better than quite a few of the higher priced pedals on the market, especially when you consider the price!!! So nice one for this review!!! 😀

I've got my laptop plugged into a Marshall practice amp at the moment, and that pedal sounds rather nice!!! Been on the look out for a decent low price distortion pedal for a while now, and this one fits the bill, especially because of the sound Ola gets from it at the end of the review!!! 😀
HB have been making some really good quality affordable gear for a while now. I still can't believe I bought one of their 2x12 cabs loaded with v30's that are cheaper than actually buying 2 v30 speakers on their own 😂. I think the first thing I would try with this pedal is adding and eq in the loop to sort out those honky mids, might work for an 80's lead tone but I'm not a fan of a honky chugg personally.
I think I’d use the boost for solos to kinda cut thru a little bit more. Get the rhythm tone without the boost and then bump it just a fuzz so it’s just above the whole band for solos.

Well I just picked up the Fortin 33 because I needed a distortion pedal but I needed a boost pedal, too. It claimed to take your amp to high gain territory so I figured I'd see if it would take my Laney Cub 12R into high gain distortion. Yep. It was not a problem lol. Looks like I made the right choice 🤘

The "Boost knob" is to adjust the level of boost only when engaged... you've set it up too high... which is the reason that when you engaged it, in conjunction with the "High knob" that is already leveled up, the sound went off the scale... you need to adjust it only as much just to cut thru a song when you're about to play a solo part...

Well, I got one, and it sounds nothing like your sound. I'm playing it through a Mesa Nomad 45 2x12 with the Celestion Vintage 30s and using a 96 Japanese Rg with a JB in the bridge, but it's not as brutal sounding as yours. I also play through a Line 6 Pod HD Pro X and KRK Rokit 5's and can get your tone, I don't get it.

The Ac Tone (Vox AC30 based) is quite good as a boost surprisingly enough. The versatilty for about £30odd is top notch 👍

To my ears, when it was dialed in, the tone kinda reminded me of a boxy replication of the guitar tone from Primal Fear's "Black Sun" album.
