- In this video I install 3S Lipo batteries in the Axial SCX24 Gladiator. One of the bonus features of the Lizard Pro ESC is the ability to run 3S batteries. I have been eager to try this upgrade and finally pull the trigger in this video. I test speed, crawling performance, and throw in some extra run footage at one of my favorite new crawling spots.

can everyone do this please! love that u time stamp!
Mate I rocked up a whole mess of youtube subscriptions and stopped subscribing as most of the movies are splashed up on your feed.
You've won me over with the excellent Two Barrel Suspension you have on the SCX24, I saw in the last movie that rolled on of yours. It really impressed me and I'm gonna do a lot of that work on mine.
I find your movies really helpfull, you not only cover the main topic but you expound on all of the sub topics associated there in. I like to mod and tinker so this information is Gold.
You a Subscriber Mate.
Keep up the great Work 😁👍
Thanks Steve, I appreciate that!
@@CapeCrawlers Credit where Credits due, Mate 👍
Love your content! Thanks for doing this. I've come a long way Thanks to your tips!
I run only 2S, I have changed all my balance connectors to IC3 (which is what limits me to 2S), and I have changed all my JST PH 2.0 to a outdoor-grade quick connect deal. I bit off a bit more than I could chew as I fried my battery checker and learned my lesson that, no, black is not positive. I then accidentally caused a short battery-side of my FCX24 ESC/Rx; I only managed to save the ESC because of the short and my reaction time. Electronics is, uh, fun I guess you could call it :P
Great video as always, Adam. Getting to see what I'm missing out on.
That sounds like a great setup despite your initial challenges! Electrical is very tedious 😅 Thanks for watching!
Sweet setup! I plan on going 3s soon, really useful to see the comparisons!
Thanks! Glad it helped!
Great find on the crawler spot, never run out of lines there.
For sure! It’s always changing too since it gets used by dirt bikes a lot. It’s never the same two sessions in a row
Looking really nice out on the rocks in the sun .
Agreed! Perfect conditions
Almost missed this one somehow. Definitely a big difference from 2s to 3s! Careful not to twist any axle shafts! Another great video Adam, thanks as always!! Take care!!!
It feels like the brushless conversion all over again: gotta learn to drive it without breaking stuff!
Fantastic video man!
what makes ur tires drop down from the axle?
From what I’ve read people are running 3s on stock scx24 esc , is this true ? Will the stock esc work with 3s ?
I bought two of the 3s Lipo battery from Moforc they work amazing for one week only and now they seemed like they lost a lot of power they run like 2 S lipo battery 🤣 I feel like I just wasted $40 on some batteries and I have to get me the same one that you have now look amazing and smaller❤️💯
Bummer! I haven’t put a lot of time on mine so I can’t speak for the reliability, but I will definitely keep everyone posted on the long term performance.
Awesome demo! I just started running 3s on my rig. Went with a venom battery, very long runtime for the power. Be careful though, I’ve broken the dog bone in the front axle and twisted the axle shaft with all the extra torque!
Also don’t you think the cape has some of the best beaches for crawling? I used to curse our Rocky beaches in sandwich till I got my Scx24
I’ve heard very good things about the venom batteries! I have found that driving on 3S is a lot like learning to drive with the brushless system all over again: more than enough power to break things! And yes, the cape has excellent rocky beaches! I like surf drive in Falmouth. It’s got a nice, secluded rocky section that’s ideal for these little things
Going from 2s 7.4 volt to 3s 11.1 volt will always give you more power. Upping voltage always does. You can manage it with gearing changes if you have temp issues. The mah number is your runtime. The bigger that number is the longer your runtime.
I personally run a 900mah 2s lipo up front where my esc was in stock chassis gladiator. The more mah’s a battery has the heavier it will be. Especially at the size the rigs are. The “c” rating on the battery is the punch the battery gives basically. The bigger that number more punch/torque to the wheels it has. “C” rating can range from 20c-100c and over.
Great info, thank you! I have the 900mah too and I like them a lot. They barely fit in some of my builds though. They’re big!
Great crawler
Thank you!
Hi Adam love your rigs there awesome..Will you be getting the trx4m 1/18 would love to see how you mod it and upgrade the hell out of it ..I'll be getting one. Been modifying my little bronco and following all your tips and free mods. Would be great to get some tips doing the trx4m too.. 👍
Thank you! I'm strongly considering the TRX4M. I just wish it had different body options. I'm not a big fan of the Land Rover and I've already got my red Bronco. I guess I could do a blue one!
The Trx4 Bronco also comes in white & black
Awesome comparison. Was it just a bad connector that fried your first lizard motor?
I think so. I don’t know what else it could have been. But it was instant smoke and fire upon contact 😖
Got another question. Is the Spektrum battery you used? Is it working fine, or is there a different one that works better?
I use the Spektrum 300mah 3s batteries. They work okay. I've got four or five of them and they've done well. Only one has failed on me thus far. But, Gens ace makes some great batteries as well.
What adapter do you recommend ? I plugged the 3s into my lizard pro and did the same thing smoked it!
I got the adapter from furitek. Still going strong!
so the esc must be rated to handle 3s or you did something to change it i assume. if i plug anything 3s into a 2s its gonna be a smoke show. also the steering servo can handle the increased voltage too? interesting.
The esc is 3s capable, yes. I ran this setup for almost a year on the same servo with no issues. I kept the voltage to ~6v to the servo and it was fine
Those are LGRC tires? That rig looks great! Are you running 3s today?
Yes they’re the LGRP swamp kings. My favorite tire! I switch between 2 and 3S depending on the mood and conditions. I prefer 2s most of the time
Any problems with running 3s and the factory receiver?
None so far. I will definitely keep everyone posted on long term performance
What motor are you running with the 3s battery? I’m burning up stock motors running 3s I’m crawler with 3s compatible esc..
Furitek micro komodo in this one
Can you do a deadbolt build along plz
Yes I can! My little red one is crying for mods!
@@CapeCrawlers can’t wait
Hey man I'm looking for a small 3s and 4s batteries I'm having a hard time finding us
What wheels and tires are you running on the Glad?
Swamp king tires by LGRP and Injora stamped steel bead locks
Is it possible to run two of those 3S Lipo’s in one SCX 24?
I'm sure it's possible but I have never seen it. That would be bananas!
which brushless motor do you like best?
Purely from a motor standpoint, the Mofo RC SMP. It's just so smooth and looks so space-age and futuristic. I love it. The Furitek is an angry little bastard, but it fits the Gladiator build from a character and appearance standpoint perfectly.
@@CapeCrawlers i was looking into the slow-motion pancake i like the look
mofo rc has some 3s batterys
it already has the right connecters
Think of the maH as your fuel tank. Bigger the mah number the more fuel in the tank. More mah longer run time
Great analogy!
Im running 2s 1200mah 35c under the hood of my C10 mounted with rubberbands and it barely fits
With a Furitek combo and It already busted an axle first day
Those must be huge batteries! I feel your pain with the axle. I did the same thing when I converted!
@@CapeCrawlers they are about twice as thick as stock so they do add more weight but they do last a long time on these little crawlers
Do you have a video on which axles are the most durable after upgrades? Thank you
I wanted to get a 3s but was on the fence.
It’s fun!
I got a 900mah 30C battery for my 24 Gladiator, lasts me a good long while. Probably like, a good few weeks long. Lol
Now that’s some solid run time!!
@@CapeCrawlers Hell yeah! 💪🏻🤟🏻
What is the C Number that’s the punch stock batteries are 30 C
It’s the current that the battery is charged and discharged at. Here’s a good explanation: www.batteriesinaflash.com/blog/battery-c-rating-explained-and-demystified/
Not to be rude but those adapters are just a straight wire from plug to plug. You dont need any electrics degree to see if their wire incorrect. Again im not being rude i just dont want your viewers to get wrong idea. Those plugs are straight through adapters and just run a wire from + on JST(red) to the + on JST-PH (white) plug. So look at the wire and if necessary follow with your fingers from one plug to the other and make sure the red wire is positive side and black negative and if they are not colored then make sure the +on one plug has the same wire as +on the other and same with -. I dont see any other way your plug could of fried you lizard, did you look at your plug? Was the wiring wring? The only other thing is a short in the plug or wiring but the doubt the plug and the wires are usually heat shinked separately so if you just give them all a good look over you will be safe.
Personally I would have just soldered the plug and skipped the adapter all together. That's my 2 cents anyways.
I don’t have the equipment to solder or I would have attempted. Definitely would prefer that over an adapter.
Ovonics if they make them that small
Haven’t heard of them but I’ll check them out!
Awesome batteries
damn that battery is cheating haha
Right?! $15 and huge power gains! It’s wild.
