Randy has a good point and it should be discussed more-once FSD becomes unsupervised, the demand for Tesla EVs might skyrocket, driving up prices dramatically, with big implications of that.

When 10-10 approaches, it would be nice to have the automatic back=up feature or summons or both. That would make a huge statement that Tesla has truly made a leap and that the institutional investor will look favorable toward Tesla ability to be truly Robotaxi capable. V12.5.1.1 says it includes Cybertruck today...and yes V12.5 is a really big improvement over V12.3.6. Only a matter of time before it is running autonomously.
That is such an essential point to reach when Robotaxie ownership kicks in. I would think that city or state regulations will be the signal factor. I know as soon as I have the go ahead I will kick into gear if I have my CyberTruck at that point.
I see Tesla coming up with 3 price structures: - ad-hoc taxi (say up to 5 days a month) pays no taxi fee but gets a smaller percentage of the fare, - private taxis (say up to 5 days a week) pay a moderate monthly fee say $300 a month and keep most of the fare, - commercial taxi operators pay monthly license say $600-1000 for unlimited use and keeping highest part of the fare This ensures a lot of taxis when demand is very high
The reason Toyota have a lower inventory than others are that they do not do direct sale to dealers they have distribution centers to dealers, so they have two extra layers compared to Tesla.

There isn't infinite demand for rides. I think Elon should come clean and say it was a mistake to say that private Tesla owners would be able to add/remove their cars from the fleet. There is still time until FSD is robotaxi ready. They can manufacture enough of the dedicated robotaxi before the initial rollout.
I will want to buy a tesla with FSD, but not necessarily include it in the robo taxi fleet. Wonder how many years it would take to get one. I think once robo taxis are out on the road, everyone is going to want a Tesla with FSD. I think. Great conversations. Thanks for the content.
I'm concerned dramatically increasing model parameters to reach FSD unsupervised will require more inference compute for low latency. It would suck if it turns out HW5 is necessary to operate FSD unsupervised/Robotaxi.
Entrepreneurs are not going to invest tens of thousands of dollars on FSD capable vehicles until they know it is legal to operate them autonomously. They need to know the vehicles can be put into operation immediately after they've been purchased. Musk has already said he expects regulatory approval to take between 1 and 5 years, depending on the location.

FSD is "ready" when Tesla begins the regulatory approval process in the US. The value of FSD will not be recognized, by the mass market, until the government says it is safe to use unsupervised. All things considered, the average consumer is NOT going to take Tesla's/Musk's word on this. Another factor will be what the insurance companies say. Most consumers are not going to risk liability.
The truth is probably someplace in the middle. In a recent meeting (mid June) with JPMorgan Tesla's Director of Investor Relations said they will build robotaxis (cybercabs) off the next generation platform that won't launch until the company is much closer to fully utilizing its existing production capacity, which may take several years. The Tesla Investor Relations team went on to say Tesla's next wave of growth will be led by the introduction of lower cost models (plural) that are expected to roll out in force by 2025, and will not use the next gen platform which won't roll out until around 2027. RK is aware of this but refuses to talk about it.
I would love to see Tesla build an EV equivalent to the small SUVs like the Nissan Rogue, Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V, etc which cost about $30,000. Not a Model Y. Not a Model 3. A style of SUV more squared off and that price point.
