The problem I have is if someone comes across this video and is new to this and they see what he did it could mess a car up.
This is by far, the best video you've ever made! You just threw almost all the secrets of the trade in public!
I'm not sure I'll ever take my vehicle to a garage again for an oil change. So much gasket sealer, locktite and E grease in the oil filter, the cost for parts would be more than the oil change. Repeat customers because if they thought they had oil leaks before, imagine after ten times the oil is put in. So funny this video. 😂 enjoyed the sheer fear and the humor.
“If the gasket is leaking, just remove the gasket” absolute genius
If your engine is knocking, just redline it until it stops
I worked with a guy that actually did that on a customers rear diff. It didn't end well.
@@thevalorousdong7675 or just knock back 😆
Not the brightest bulb
I actually had a plant manager tell me this, and also...Quote
"If a machine gearbox or spindle leaks , just don't fill them with oil, its less cleanup that way !!!???!!!
And finally it happened..., after neglecting to replace the seals on a 750 ton press, (heavy presses are usually built into a pit in the factory floor...
a seal finally blew, sprayed 450 gallons of fluid-cost $40 dollars a gallon, of sickly warm, brown/red burnt hydraulic fluid across myself and everyone within 20ft nearby.
Afterwards, we discovered and pumped over 2500 gallons out from the pit, it was almost completely full...
Osha, Dept of labor, Local Fire Dept, County wildlife, State Inspectors, and Epa all became involved...
Yikes, all to save a few bucks on labor, that was then wasted in oil usage anyway, and then multiplied by environmental fines. $$$ X1000
If you're missing 1 lugnut on a 5 lug setup then you simply add 20% more torque to the other lugnuts to compensate.
5 is too many anyway. 4 is plenty. It's all added weight for nothing.
20% is for 1 missing on a 6 lug wheel, 5 lug is +25%
It's all overbuilt anyway. 😁👍🏻

Dielectric grease in the oil filter made me stop and look for April Fools date. Solid troll work sir.
I'm a service writer for a shitty company and these videos somehow ease the pain of going to work in an environment where management tries to screw over the customer as much as the customer tries to sue for previous damages.
Keep up the good work sir.

I, usually, torque the new filter until it collapses on itself, then turn another half turn. That way the filter doesn't hold as much oil, so takes less to fill... conserves oil.
Should increase internal pressures as well. Good idea.
I've always found a screwdriver through the filter case the best way to ensure its torqued correctly.

Ray, I just recently found you, and what a gem you are.
What amazes me is how versatile you are. In my former life as a mechanic, most of us specialized in certain brands. We worked on German cars only.
You can work on anything gas and diesel. Nice!
Loving the content.
He is funny lol. For me it’s just the little comments as he’s working on things. I chuckled when he’s undoing the oil filter going “hot hot hot”, goes back to unscrew some more and goes “another hot!” He’s just so relatable 😂
Ya know, due to this video, I officially want to drive from TN to FL to get my oil change so I know its done good. Thanks for giving us all a look into how a shop does it right. One critique, pretty sure once you drain the oil and remove the filter, you're supposed to start the engine, rev to 2k RPM, for at least 10min to get the remaining oil out of the block. It's not mandatory but strongly recommended.
Shouldn't be say that, the trolls will believe you & then do it😳🤣🤣🇬🇧
How can I like this comment twice :)
🤣
Fantastic big LOL !! ;-)
Also, it's a good idea to take the excess oil that has drained from the engine, mix it with water and sand, equal parts mind you, and use it as a good fuel additive to clean the combustion chamber real good. Just some food for thought.
Its about damn time someone on UA-cam started installing oil filters and drain plugs properly.
The only thing missing was to install the new washer over the old washer. It doubles the seal!
I've watched a few of his videos, got roughly half way through and thought (pounding away on the oil plug w/ chisel) this has got to be an April fool's prank. I stopped and checked the date, OHHHHH so close LOL (March 30th).
I love it. I've been in this business for over 24 years and people never cease to amaze me I can only imagine what people say when you are not face to face.

A couple of recommendations:
1. I would use a quick setting epoxy on the oil filter gasket instead of the RTV and loctite combination
You used. You want to make sure that filter stays on nice and tight after all!
2. For the additional 40+ quarts of crankcase oil fill past the initial OEM spec 5 quarts, use 90 weight instead of the 15-40 weight you mentioned. That will further reduce the chance of leaks. Or … even better, moly grease.
Epoxy what are you crazy? JB Weld!

Pro tip: 1/2" Breaker Bar is a must for torqueing the oil pan drain. Also if you strip out the metric threads, just put in SAE drain plug. works every time. Thanks for the parody Ray- you saved the Interwebs and made my day.
I like to be thorough, I always use a 1" drive with a 6 foot breaker bar, that makes sure I have a nice clear bore hole to pressure fill from the bottom. Trouble is it keeps running out once I remove the nozzle, it's had nice fresh oil coating everything at least.
You must be one of those types who rides fast and loose with safety. I use a 3/4 drive. Charge an extra $20 on the invoice as a "courtesy fee".
All 3 of yall have it wrong, you need a 1 inch drive impact gun for taking off semi lug nuts and have the tool on max then you might touch the right amount of torque for it to stay in the aluminum oil pan
Cross thread beats loctite! Think of the savings
@@rosebankalumni I mean there will probably not be threads if you use an impact gun

There were numerous really obvious hints, but if they got to the cam phaser falling out the drain plug and still took it seriously, they've probably already screwed up their car previously anyway haha
I'm 68 and have done bookoo car repairs. I have never seen ANYONE put ANY sealant on the gasket.Just clean oil smeared on the gasket. Thread locker? For an oil filter? I've seen a lot of fu*ked up fixes.
Thank you for this instructional video. Would you recommend a heat torch to loosen a stubborn oil pan plug? I used the half inch impact on a necked down 1/4 inch socket for maximum accuracy on spec. My Snap-On guy said he has never seen his sockets wear like mine.
Ray, I have never laughed so hard in my life! I thought WTF he has lost his mind or he has a personal vendetta against the people he is working for! ( You know.. I'll get you, you " You SOB " ). But the Lock Tight on the the oil filter is the one that did it for me. I can't stop laughing!!! Oh My God.
Thank you for making my day. I have to show my nephew this video and and not say a word to him!
I was believing everything you were doing, right up to the point where you used the brake clean to make everything "nice and shiny". No scammer would clean up like that. They'd spray oil on things instead to make sure that there would be some oil drips when the customer got home, causing them to return to get the oil leak fixed. You almost fooled me, but made that one slip up!
What he should have done was pour motor oil on top of the resonator to ensure that the smoke would plume up to the driver side window. That would definitely bring a customer back and you could say "Oh, wow, it was worse than we thought. Whoever did this work before must have screwed up your bed plate which caused a slow leak down to your exhaust system, which caused it to rot and corrode. Recommend replacing bed plate, and replacing exhaust system with OEM."
Cha-ching labor.

Adding Loctite where it's sure to be picked up by circulating oil is pure genius. That will assure that any gaps between the crankshaft and associated bearings are eliminated.

Thank you Ray. I'm a first time viewer of your channel and this video gave me some valuable tips. @@yournamehere3374 In fact why not just actually weld the pin in place for total security
OMG, that is so funny and scary at the same time.
I lost it when you put dielectric grease in the filter, followed with a ring of red snot on the gasket and then put locktight over all that.
A Great satire. Thank you and to your employer that allows you to do this.
If you look, he didn't really put the Lock tite. That stuff is too expensive .
In the 50 years I've been working on cars and trucks I've never seen anyone use the red snot. I guess anyone can learn something new.
@@stephen00brown at 76 and been DIYing it for 60 years I got that none of this was fact.
The personality you have shown in the binge watching I've done on your channel is that you have maintained a calm demeanor and morally upright approach to both the good news -- as well as the bad news -- you have uncovered in your investigating the problems with a customer's vehicle.
Makes me glad this video wasn't presented in my featured page as I would've been confused as hell without knowing what I know now.
I'm glad you added the ending explaining it was fake. I don't know much about cars, but I do like watching some of your videos. Not knowing much about cars I usually take you at your word. So i thought you actually were doing everything to this car, I don't even know what would happen if you did all the things to the car. Still makes for some good entertainment :D
Rays April fools jokes 2 days before April fools day 🤣🤣🤣Its a UK thing!!
Wait. Based on the European date format, isn’t it pronounced “fools April day” over there ?
@@bjverzal No, it would be "Day April Fools" sorta.
@@bjverzal no it's called April fools day but not after midday otherwise the joke is on you 😆
Don't blame the car owner, just doesn't want to pay $30 for each wiper blade LOL
@SweeperB0t I’m not saying Ray would, but for how cheap wipers are, and and how fast they are to change, dealerships charge a ridiculous amount for replacing wipers.
Owner should have noticed the worn blades and changed them themself. Don’t need a shop to do that. Just let them know they’re done. I’ve had my own start separating like that and the new set of super fancy blades was like $30-40.
When the blade starts separating like these, just pull that little strip off. Brand new wiping edge! 🤪
This video reminded me of a guy from high school. His car was overheating, so he went to Walmart and bought a gallon of anti-freeze and added it to the engine. His engine seized and he couldn't figure out why. Turns out, he poured the anti-freeze directly into the valve cover and drove it until it died.
This video had me laughing, but it also disturbed me a little bit, because there are people out there that will believe anything, and once they are convinced, you can't change their minds.
I laughed so hard 🤣 thank you for the call back to my comment on the 10mm socket necklace I wasn't joking though it's handy as hell 😎👍
