Climbing Grades EXPLAINED

- Опубліковано 25 лип 2020
- In this short tutorial for rock climbing beginners, I explain how to read, understand, and interpret rock climbing grades or ratings. I cover the meaning behind the Yosemite Decimal System (YDS) for route climbing and the V-Scale or Hueco Scale for bouldering. Both of these rating systems are used in the US to describe the difficulty of routes and boulder problems in both indoor and outdoor climbing. I also go into the PG, PG13, R, and X ratings for outdoor climbs. I hope this video answers any questions new rock climbers may have about climbing grades they have seen in guidebooks, at the climbing gym, or at their outdoor crags and boulders.

Thanks so much for watching!
Awesome video! Just one note:
I’m pretty sure plus and minus exist to denote wether a route is sustained in difficulty. So 5.11- might be 5.9 most of the way up with one or two moves on grade. While 5.11+ likely maintains the grade the entire route.
As for abcd ratings, it’s important to note that the difference between 5.11a and 5.11b is the same as that of 5.8 and 5.9.
Peace!
I’ve actually never heard that before, that’s good beta. Thanks!

Best explanation ever. Why can't you Americans and the europeans agree to an universal rating system?
Ha ha good question!
man, why did u stop making videos? Your videos are just great.
Thanks! Got busy with life but hoping to starting making videos again soon!
Nice, just commenting for algorithm
PG13, R, X l know these 😂
😂
01:30 😂LMAO
And 04:30 jeez xddd
I'll admit I know nothing about climbing but only Americans would say 5.15 is higher than say 5.9 and then call it the decimal system :)
After a hard night out i rate getting out the bed at a 5.15.d xxxx.
😂
whats a 6b+? thanks for not explaining
Great question! 6b+ is actually part of the French system of grading that is widely used in Europe. It corresponds to about 5.11a in the Yosemite Decimal System. Here’s a helpful conversion chart: www.google.com/search?q=climbing+grade+conversion&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS704US704&oq=climbing+grade&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0i512l5.5262j0j4&hl=en-US&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=fazieS2krO0fnM
Different countries and regions all over the world have different and unique grading systems. In the interest of keeping it short, this video covers the most commonly used grading system in the US. Thanks for watching and happy climbing!
They're all idiot systems
