Often seen them going to have to try them now!
3 years later and the Tamdhu 15 is selling for £110 ($195CAD). Tamdhu 12 selling for half that makes it good value.
Great comparison, Rob. I'm still sitting on an unopened 15yo, so this is encouraging. Cheers 🥃🇨🇦
Hope you like it Mark. Cheers
one of the best and most underrated sherry bombs out there. never had a bad tamdhu
They are solid consistently
Great review Rob!! Just bought a bottle of both. In Australia I picked up the 12yo for $76aud and the 15yo for $125aud. When I hear you are buying the 15yo for $150cad I know I've got a good deal. Cheers 😁👍👍
i had the 15 recently and thought it was absolutely fantastic. easy glendronach replacement.
Serious? i never had a Tamdhu, but i love the Glendronach 15. But the price of that one is going up. Got my eyes on the Glen Allachie 15, it is still affordable here in Nederland.
I love this guy and his channel. You review some truly awesome stuff. Its an added bonus that he's a fellow Ontarian. I'm curious to know where he buys his stuff because a tax of 61.5% on spirits is ludicrous.

Thanks for the kind words buddy. Cheers!
Ok, I'm finishing a dram of the Tamdhu 15 as I write this... I just have this to say: Uncanny. Right off the bat I could smell and then taste a lot of sweet notes... some heat (not alcoholic, just heat), spice, red fruits if you look for it... but lots of sweet. Whisky blows my mind. This is really good... I may have to dive into the GlenAllachie 15 right after this now just to compare them. I had the flu not long after trying it for the first time, now I'm not sure if a few days helped the whisky or if my palate was just off... maybe a bit of both. Cheers!!
Cheers
Excellent review, Rob. One thing I'll point out which is interesting that I don't believe you had mentioned (although you name-dropped Glengoyne, here) -- Tamdhu is the younger, sister distillery of Glengoyne; both distilleries are owned by Ian Macleod Distillers. Which would explain Tamdhu's high quality and excellence in sherry cask maturation. Cheers, mate.
Yes I feel this is forgotten knowledge brought back by this comment. Cheers.
Haven't had either but had the Batch Strength 4. Excellent stuff! IMO it can compete with the A'bunadh and Classic Cut. For the price though, Tamdhu all the way! (Got it for about CAD75)
The Tamdhu 15yo is rumored to be older currently because of the couple years it was mothballed, I'm getting one tomorrow.
I've always been satisfied with but never WOWed by Tamdhu. The 12-year was a decent replacement for Balvenie 12DW when the price went up. The "batch strength" was decent but not on the same level as Aberlour A'Bunadh or Arran "The Bodega." Until they show me something more, Tamdhu will be more of a "fall-back" than a "go-to."
Had no idea it’s the same distillery as famous grouse (naked being my favorite), J&B and Cutty Sark. See the 12 at my local I’ve eyeballed plenty but always something else I wanted more. Also got that Stephen King The Institute in my “To Read” pile, his books never disappoint. Especially paired with a great Whiskey 😁
The Institute is good. I recommend Dark Matter.
I compared the older 10 and the 12, and had a hard time distinguishing the two blind. I agree the 12 is a bottle you always want on your bar. The older 10 used to be priced well above standard 12 year old bottlings, and the new prices seem to reflect a price point of similar 12 year olds, MAC Sherry, GD 12, Glen Allichie 12, so to me this is a win and a great alternative to those whiskies. Like to try the 15 and the orginal batch strength continue to be a favorite of mine.
I think tamdhu is about to explode to be honest
The Tamdhu 12 is nonchillfiltered goodness. Less than haf the price of the 15, such a no brainer. the 15 is on my bucket list though for sure.
Turns out the 12 is chillfiltered... and turns out I got the 15 and don't love its lack of sweetness.
Good stuff brother! Looking young my friend! I'm jealous.....and the Tamdhu too! :-)
Lol cheers brother. Thank you.
Just picked this up in OH for 77 bucks. What a steal!
The 15 that is.. The batch 5 on the shelf ( already have one but paid 89.00 for it in Michigan) was only 54.00 will grab another when I finish the one I have. I added a dram of the batch strength to a bottle of Laphoaig triple wood and it lifted so high its on par with the Lore.
The place to go, when you are fed up with prices and shenanigans by Macallen and Glendronach, but Pssssssssssssssssssssst! 😉
I absolutely loved the Tamdhu Batch Strength and waited patiently for about 18 months for the 15. I was massively disappointed when I tasted the 15 after my experience with the Batch Strength. The 12 and Batch Strength are really good value as well.
15 just underwhelmed for me.
I can see it not being for everyone
got both the 12 and the 15... what surprised me on both of these is how dry they are and how there's barely any sweetness. That was a bit of a disappointment for me to be honest. Need to give the 15 time to breath though, there's still hope. but yeah, some sweetness would have done these wonders... they could have added some PX in the mix.
Tried the 12 again these days. On the second pour I could definitely feel some vanilla. I was having a 105 with water at the same time which is pretty sweet. I was surprised that after a little while I was actually not 100% which was which. I’m actually suspecting my palate was a bit off when I tried the 15. Will try again one of these days… cheers!
The Tamdhu 12 is a Non chill filtered Whisky. They really should put it on the bottle I agree
Very good stuff though.
Enjoyin the 15 currently.
Did the 12 ever make a cameo at the LCBO?
I don’t think it did unfortunately
@@WhiskyInThe6 Of course. Thank you as always, lcbo.
Looks like the Hell-CBO just added a listing for it, so we might be in luck! Now just keep checking the site daily for the next 1 to 6 months until they actually put it on the shelves....🤪
Sierra Springs had the 15 for $110 all in.
Solid price
Please review 'Limavady' for us. Thanks.
What’s that?
@@WhiskyInThe6 It is an Irish whisky.
What kind of crystal are those?
Glencarin
Very good vid. I had the 12 today and I thought it was exceptional. I’m going on an African safari in 2 months with a few buddies and we had the 15 delivered to the lodge last week and I have very high expectations. Curious - what would be a 90, 95 or 98 on your scale?
