    Another great review. First time I've heard to let a whisky (no 'e' in Canada!) age one minute per year in the cask. We'll be trying this next time we do a tasting and not just drinking. Thanks for the tips. Whisky IS a Journey!

    I only have a couple of Glenfarclas expressions and the Arran Bodega that are fully sherry matured. Out of the bunch, Glenfarclas 17 is my favorite. Velvety smooth and sweet. A gem..!!! 🥃
    Tamdhu 15 is on my "To buy" list alongside Old Elk Double Wheat. 👍

      Oh my gosh! Those are 2 very good bottles to have on your "to buy" list. Cheers!

    Agree for me too it’s noticeably golden raisins on this one and that note is very prominent too on the 12.

    Another great review Peter! Sherry matured whisky is a fall/winter sipper for me. I haven’t gotten a chance to to try Tamdu but I will give it a shot against my personal favorite, Edradour 12 Caledonia.

      I can see it being a fall/winter sipper. I feel the same way about peated scotch. Let me know how it compares once you try it.

    Sherry is hit or miss for me. I often get a sulfur note on sherry finished whiskeys. Harder to find, especially for single malts is Port finished whiskeys, which I prefer.

      I get that sulfur note as well from time to time. I can't remember off hand, but I need to check to see what I have that is port finished.

      @@whiskeyisajourney - one of my personal favorites is Glanmorangie Port Finished. I have a bottle of Dalmore Port finished, but I haven't cracked her open yet.

    Great review. My Tamdhu 12 and Batch Strength #5 are precious possessions. Btw, many sherry casks are larger than x-bourbon barrels and can hold up to 5 liters of sherry, soaked into the staves. Or so I'm told...

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Рік тому

      5 liters! Wow! Well that would explain the strong sherry influence.

    For some reason, my Total Wine put these on sale so I was able to get it for smidge over $100. I hope to get the same enjoyment, but if it’s a sip it, I don’t know if I’ll ever get it that low price again.

      If you like a sherry bomb then you will like this. 15 year a little over $100 that's a great value. Cheers!

    Thanks for reviewing this, Peter! Do you feel like your preference to Sherry is dependent on the season? I feel like warmer weather may encourage me to go after the sweet fruitiness. Looking forward to your Sherry bomb video…curious for some lower prices alternatives for heavy Sherry. Cheers!

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Рік тому +1

      Right now I'm liking it so much it's not season dependant, but as soon as my obsession with it dies down I can definitely see wanting lighter fruitier whiskeys in the summer/spring and darker heavier peaty whiskeys in fall/winter. Looking forward to the sherry video as well. Cheers!

    I'm just starting to appreciate sherry influence. I'm mostly #teamexbourbon, but I'm starting to appreciate sherry more. So a Tamdhu may be in my future taste adventures.

      Nice appearance on SLB today. I just had a Kilkerran 8 Bourbon Cask Matured and it was fantastic!

    How would you say the Tamdhu holds up against the Aberlour 12 ncf or the a'bunadh? I have the Aberlour 12 and i am thinking of buying the Tamdhu or the a' bunadh

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Рік тому +1

      Right at this time the Tamdhu 15 is one of my favorite bottles so I would have to say it's better, but I have not had the Aberlour 12 and I've only had A'bunadh Alba at 114.2 proof and it was matured in bourbon casks so it's a different profile all together. So....I don't know what else to say.
