Watched your Dad do a rare cut only twice in your life and then executed the main facets in only 1:21 minutes (unless edited). Masterly is an understatement!
After four years of watching your videos every week, this is hands down my favorite gem of all time. I’m so glad you went for the high dome over the larger stone- well done!
For those of you just hearing my words now, ask yourself why he's using the effing 180grit wheel if he needs to be careful with the top of the stone? He's literally touching the stone to the wheel and it's taking 1 millimetre of stone off with every touch because the wheel he's on is too damn rough! Saw tons of potch/sand and got lazy on at least the first 4 minutes of this one, Justin. When you saw how touch and go the stone was, you should have backed off to a finer stone. I'm literally sitting here, clenching my jaw every time you touch the stone to the wheel because 5% of whatever stone was left is laying in the form of watery Stone Sludge on top of your fingers...just from each tiny little touch.
@Chris_Harris He's confident to use the 180-grit wheel because he's been doing this long enough to know exactly how much will be removed - and, exactly how much needs to be removed. He's a real pro. But I do understand the concern. It makes me a little nervous, too. 😊
That cushion cut might be the most beautiful thing I ever seen. Your experience really shows, amazing. Whoever gets that one in a ring is a lucky person!
Anabsolutely stunning gem. You are the opal king and I think it’s about time someone puts together a Netflix special starring you and your incredible new shop. To teach the world the incredible and amazing world of opals in Australia. Just beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your talent and your time and one of mother nature’s most beautiful products. Be well.
That gleam when you start on the 600 nova was unbelievable, as you progress to finer grits, my God I'm speechless. I never thought there's a cut other than high dome oval that can show an opal's beauty like that! truly a work from a master 😍
Here's me - on disability benefits and the value of the gem is more than I get in a year - thinking: That is so cheap! Had you told me it was worth 18 Grand I'd have probably still thought it was cheap. I agree with a previous poster: This is my favourite stone yet, the value doesn't do the beauty justice. Thank you so much for sharing, truly magnificent!
I think this is one of the most beautiful gems I've ever seen you cut, even though it's not a black opal. The shape of the stone and the color is amazing. I'll be honest Sir, if I had discovered you back in my youth I think my life would have taken an entirely different turn. I came very close to being a gemologist, but watching you at work is nothing short of a miracle.
justin its amazing that you can do all this magnificent cuts, but stays mostly with ovals, this is a beautiful stone and a brilliant cut that show the best of it, keep the hard work we appriciat it ❤💪
I know it it is a TON of more work in post but I like the combo of the "play by play" commentary given live during the cutting and with the addition of your comments during editing. You do a great job and is nice to have a bit of variety in the format. Also like the livestreams. Beautiful cut once again. Cheers mate.
@@blackopaldirect I had a question. I never intended to make money or jewelry out of opals I just love the stones. Do you sell any of the unusable cuttings? I would love to just make some rubs with them to just enjoy the stones themselves.
This was such a great idea to cut a cushion cut. It turned out amazing and yes could see the four sides to it. I could hear you over the machine. Thank you Justin
The new blackened background as you cut makes the color and gleam just jump out like never before. The entire video was spectacular today. Certainly will go up as one of our all-time favorites. Well done, Justin!
Justin, keep pushing through on the studio setup. You'll get there, and we aren't going anywhere! There's a lot involved with making a system "just" work.
I love such a high dome and the pyramid shape. It gives you so much more color to enjoy than a typical oval, and from so many angles. Absolutely magnificent!
What a most unusual and beautiful cut. The stone is gorgeous. You have outdone yourself this time. It was a gamble, but you made it work. Thanks for sharing your time, thinking and talent with us. Be happy, safe and stay healthy 😷⚒
I so enjoy your videos! I’m an 80 year-old woman who has never had any experience with opal cutting. I consider watching you working at the wheel a form of “active meditation.” I’ve always been an avid learner; I’ve learned so much from this particular activity. I enjoy the experience and relate to you, becoming a part of an incredibly challenging art form. Thank you! You’re a wonderful, kind person, someone anyone would enjoy having a connection with! Be aware of my silent presence and that of all those who simple observe without you even knowing who we are! ❤️
It's always lovely to watch these. I still work on opals and other stones manually, it takes hour upon hours but is a great way to pass the time, however seeing colour come up like this is just something else. Keep up the great work
You've inspired me!! I just ordered a CabKing cabbing machine and some Ethiopian rough opals to begin learning. It wasn't a cheap investment but I love these and my 13 year old son is super excited to do this too. I have been rockhounding and this is the perfect addition to complement that hobby. Thank you so much for doing these videos, I wouldn't have done this if it wasn't for you. I hope I can gain a fraction of the skill you have and make some nice things for my wife, and who knows if I get good enough maybe a side business. God Bless, and please keep on making these videos!!
When you have that much crystal to play with, you definately can indulge and make a pyramidal cushion cut all right, but I couldn't help but wince at how much high grade crystal opal was ground away. Still, that's the art form of the gemcutter, knowing when and where to make the sacrifice for the good of the final stone, and that's why I watch your work pretty much exclusively. And the final result was unreal. GREAT work, thank you again for sharing with us, Justin!
I about had a stroke watching it... My jaw remained dropped from there to the end, and I really hope Justin shares a bit more on his line of thinking, in the video cutting the other half.

Hi Justin. Truly spectacular nobby tat was. You made me very nervous when you decided to cut this large stone. I am always surprised that the price is not massively multiplied by the size of the stone. Obviously bigger pieces are much more rare so the price should grow expenantionally. Anyway you are the MC and I really like the end resoult. Lovelly cut. Excellent video. Take care mate.

We have had glimpses of them in the cutting process, before the final cut, and I always thought it was beautiful. And now we all know how lovely a cut like this can be. Thank you.
