    I remember these trains from the 1950's. At that time I lived in Pensilvania and use to watch the steam and diesel trains go by. You never ever forget the sounds and smells.

    The SantaFe is the quintessential 1950s Lionel. If you don't have the originals, this set is a fine way to re-live the essence of Lionel in a by-gone era. Even the cars are good representations of the originals. I got a chuckle about the milk car ... yes, I have the original, and it too jams once in a while. The Auto Loader looks really fine.. Brings back the feeling of childhood in the 50s, with my Dad... bless his Spirit..
    I would add those decals like you mentioned... that would be a nice addition to the new release locos.

    I also love F3's and it all began with a set from my uncle of the Santa Fe diesels with silver passenger cars as a kid in the '50's with a train track loop under the annual Christmas tree! Colorful engines and cabooses are my favorites, so the Kansas City Southern F3's come in 2nd to the Santa Fe F3's. Pretty cool that you have the new and old matching sets!

    Zack I think the set is really beautiful it’s actually nice that Lionell did not use the same exact color otherwise you’d have all your F 3 with the same colors. I think the design of adding the yellow stripe in the front makes the engine look sharp. I’m also excited to see that Lionell re issued some of their classic cars to this set. Enjoy Richard.

    At 7:13 comparing the windshields with the older unites, It looks to me like they are almost flat instead of V shaped. And the roundness of the nose is different too. Plus the paint stripping on the roof is wrong. I Don't care for them much. That's just my opinion.

    Lionel went out of their way to bring back modern post war F3 Santa Fe diesels. Why be so picky about red horns etc. It is a Postwar conventional Classic for gosh sakes! I would rather have these new trains than the old ones any day. Lionel made a huge Santa Fe streamliner set in 2007 I think, two A units and 2 or 3 B units. About 7 or 8 cars I think. We need more appreciation for what Lionel does for us perfectionists. Great job Lionel, and thank you a hundred times!

  • @mrsam6751
    @mrsam6751 3 роки тому

    I like the video. The set is spot on except for two things ... The diesels fall short of recreating the original by color and by the stripe not stopping below the headlight. Of course the lack of the Lionel and GM tags add to it as well. The second is the caboose they. Outdoor have made it like the boxy original and made it smoke for fun. Look these sets cost enough one should not settle. But if you’re happy with it that’s all that matters ... Happy Railroading and nice layout.

      I’ve had one Williams set in my hands once. When I was looking for the 2245 TX special I almost picked up a Williams version from a hobby shop. Would it hurst to have crew talk that doesn't sound like a robot was chatting? It should be reflective of the 50's. The bell has the sound of a really cheap steel bell. The set is actually decent. I do agree the red is a tad duller then what is on the postwar F-3's you have. I do love the set, do wish it was a little closer to the postwar sets it is modeled after. However I don’t think Lionel can win here. Some people like me will complain about the paint/doesn’t match originals, others will complain it’s not prototypical or doesn’t look real enough. I think they did a somewhat decent job of meeting in the middle. Happy Railroading

    Beautiful set.... red not too bad and over time that red may "fade". Just park it in front of the window with the sun shining on it !? :0

      Well shoot, I don’t want to fade it anymore than it already is! LOL

    Hey, what ballast did you use along the track? It looks good on MTH track.

    Actually it is a gorgeous set. I can go either way on glossy versus matte. Glossy is more traditional, but matte is more prototypical. Really, as we all know, the set should have passenger cars as the engines are in the post war passenger scheme. Bruce D. Schrimpf

      The passenger cars would definitely be more prototypical, but Lionel did offer these as freight sets originally too. I’m sure being a freight set helps keep the price down a little as well. I am impressed at the cars in this set. I like em a lot.

    Would you like to buy just one more Santa F diesel set by MTF with the aluminum passenger cars that I bought new in 1997 and I've never taken them out of the boxes it is equipped with Proto sound. It was the first set that is called the "The El Capitan"it is definitely the best looking Santa Fe set:( in my opinion) ever built for O gauge modeling and I've been in the hobby for seventy years.

      Thank you Lavern! I appreciate the thought! Think I’ve got my hands full of SF’s at the moment though. I’ll ask around if anyone would be interested.

    What kind of motors does the powered A unit have? Is it pullmor or can motors? Also could the locomotive be run with a transformer and can the sounds be turned off?

    • @CountryBunkersTrains
      @CountryBunkersTrains  3 роки тому +1

      I’m not sure on the motors off hand. Yes, this can be controlled conventionally with a transformer and has a switch underneath to turn the sounds off if desired. Honestly though, if looking to operate conventionally with no sounds, I would opt for an original postwar piece. Not sure if it would be worth the money not to be able to use all the “bells and whistles” that come with this one. Could save a good bit and buy the originals. However, to each his own.

    At 15:56, How do you run other trains and have those Santa Fe's not be on if the tracks are connected with switches? Wouldn't the electricity turn those on as well?

    • @CountryBunkersTrains
      @CountryBunkersTrains  3 роки тому

      The sidings are isolated away from the main track work with a powered switch installed to turn them on and off.

    I agree with that color I think it would be more glossy.
