I could name Czech Republic a few years ago but teachers here were apparently getting a raise every year so it seems to be quite a good profession now.
I'd say he made the right choice. He brings a quality and personality that no-one else can replicate. I would say Philip is more honest and open about doing the UA-cam thing than most other creators out there, that is something his audience appreciates. I did accounting and taxation myself and hate every second of it, but I'm kinda stuck being 27 now. Most successful UA-camrs and such started uploading vids (even unprofessionally) since the early days of UA-cam and at a young age such as Philip.
Phil, quite frankly I would hate to see you become less active on UA-cam as a result, but this is your life and your decision - having a steady career might be the better path to take instead of the riskier path of videos and maps, so I think all your fans would understand whichever choice you make.
I couldn't have watched this video at a better time. I'm currently deciding if I should take a gap year and focus on making UA-cam videos whilst having a part time job, or go to uni to study something to get a qualification. I think this video has helped me make up my mind. I really enjoy making videos, and from this moment on, I'm gonna try to use every day to improve myself as a filmmaker. University will always be there and if nothing comes from my year of UA-cam, then so be it. I will have learnt a whole lot more about myself, and I will have given myself an opportunity to pursue a passion. If you ever see this comment Phillip, thank you for producing such great content and I wish you the best :)
I personally think you would be a great teacher, Philip. The hammer tutorials you've uploaded over the years speak for themselves. Also, I have to ask, did you leave university?
2:04 - "It would be a shame the experience, my degree, and the steps that I've already taken towards getting a job in the profession." (I think kliksphilip is ignoring you at this point)
Obviously, having a sustainable future is the most important thing for you and you are more than right to jump at the chance to take that teaching role. We understand your situation and will support you throughout, even if it does mean we see less of you on UA-cam.
Go and teach! One of the best careers out there, so much potential with the time off you get. I've been considering it myself. I think you can do both. Catch up soon!
I tried going into teaching and it did not work for me. I came to really dislike the red tape as you mentioned and the amount of planning needed for a single lesson. I have many more reasons for not going into teaching but those are some of the main ones. After 3 Years of it, I am now having to think seriously about where to go in life so I am taking a gap year which may be an opportunity to try out UA-cam for myself (not as an income but as a nice sideline.) I am not saying that teaching is bad or that its difficult. you need to experience every detail before committing to it fully. Overall you need to know what makes you happy before basing a career what you think it is.
Well i spend alot of time watching proffessional youtubers *and* those who aspire to be proffessional, ive found that the people who fail do so for 2 main reasons, 1) theyre just in it for the money/fame and not cause they liked doing it, they usually get impatient and give up when they dont get anywhere and 2) theyre boring, they try really hard and like what they do, but theyre just dull... Youve proven your not greedy and love making videos for the sake of it and i think you have the kind of quirky interesting personality and energetic voice that i see in a lot of very successful youtubers, at the same time i understand and share your compulsion to play it safe and there are youtubers who arent nearly as successful as they should be, i myself am trying to decide whether to try and get into the psychology or have ago at writing and publishing a story ive had in my head for years (although its not as hard for me because i *could* just try and do both) unfortunatly elaborate cost/benefit analysis wont always give us a definative answer... Best of luck to you whatever you end up doing
A decade later (plus plus a week~) I would love a longer video from you that takes about the journey. I know you have so many already, but one that focuses on your entire career on UA-cam, and your look on the future of it, would be interesting. How has the daily work changed over the years? Which period do you look back on the fondest? What video topics do you enjoy most these day? Doing UA-cam forever seems unlike, so what other profession would you choose? Try teaching again? If you were to quit fulltime UA-cam, would it be slowly? E.g. Releasing fewer and fewer videos, focusing more on 2Kliksphilip than 3Kliksphilip? Or just stop one day Besides that, i want to tell you my appreciation for your content. I started watching at some point in 2014, so it has been almost a decade of me viewing you videos as well. Throughout those years i have watched almost all your videos, many of them multiple times especially when i was younger and had a lot more free time (Adulthood is like living with a time stealing goblin). Some i have watched upwards of 10 times, such as: The ones about stair clipping in Counter-Strike "A FOV TOO FAR" and other funny 'messing with setting' videos The many various series on 2Kliksphilip Comedy focused videos are extra special, like all the "how eat like me" Emotional, life stories and thought ones like "The game making journey" and "The Simpler Things in Life" You have gotten a lot of shit for the Corona videos but i greatly appreciated them as they came out, and just as much this year when i watched through them again. It's great to have a perspective such as yours on a topic like that, even for someone who is from Scandinavia. And the music, gods. There aren't many who has as good vibes with their music as your channels do. Both you and your dad make absolutely amazing songs. They fit so well with your videos, obviously, but they're so catching and memorable that i can't help but to load up playlists with them from time to time. And course the 'guest artists' are good too, like David Randall Your humor is fantastic, all the inside jokes and memes are among the top of all the many hundred UA-camrs i have watched over the years. The in depth videos on CS:GO have always fascinating. The inner workings of video games have been a huge interest of mine, and i have no doubt that you played a role in giving me that interest. So thank you, no matter what the future for you is. The countless hours that i have spent with you along on a screen is already more than enough.
Due to the current situation (2020), I’m taking a gap year before university. I’ve just started what you talk about having done here. I’m started this youtube channel. I’m making all my own music. I know these videos here are old, but are appreciated. They help make me feel better about my current direction, and helps me think about things. Thanks philip.
I'm in the exact same situation as you. I was happy to see that I wasn't alone in taking a gap year before uni due to covid. I'm also pursing my own passions in this year, mostly music though. I just wanted to say that I noticed your comment in this six year old video and wish the best of luck in your own pursuits.
I really know how you feel. I'm currently taking a year off school myself, to make UA-cam (just started), and it was really hard for me to choose to do this, because my whole family hated the idea and don't see UA-cam as something you can do for a living, even though I showed them alot who does it). Know, I'd say that you should just do whatever that feels right.. Waow, this sounds so cliche.. But really, if you feel like you're going to be able to make a living of what you love and dream about, give it as much time as possible.
Well that's weird. Because you seem like your channel isn't doing too bad.... How can you not convince your parents that doing UA-cam as a living is a good idea?! O.o
Le Reff Untill recently my parents didn't consider UA-cam money as "real money" even though I've been doing it for years. :p Because before I got my payments sent to my Paypal, so my parents never saw them and they were like "yeah, sure, you can get games and such because you play.. sure, fine, whatever", but now that they're sent to my bank account they suddenly realize how much it is :p
Hey, it's been a few years since this video. If you happen upon this comment, what do you think about the things you were saying here? How did it turn out, and what's your perspective like now?
I absolutely love your videos so right away i want to say stay. But, putting what I want aside and looking through your point a view, I understand. Could you become an assistant halfway through the year if youtube doesn't pick up enough? In one hand, if you love teaching, go for it. Once you get used to the routine, you'll be able to do it physically easier and do videos on the weekends and stuff. Idk man. It all comes down to what you think is more promising, youtube, or the teaching career.
I don't know what you should do, because I don't know you. However I think that you have a unique decision to make. Take a risk and pursue your dream job, or take a less risky risk and pursue your other, slightly less dreamy job. I think that you should continue with UA-cam, because your channels are growing quickly, and a reduction of your video output would almost certainly impact that growth negatively. If you are going for the money, you should go for the teaching because it would be more stable. But if you really want to do your dream job; something that few people are able to do, you should continue making videos as you have been and allow your channel to grow further. I think this decision depends on how much you think you would enjoy teaching. Is it worth sacrificing your channels' fast growth?
