If PS2 is anything like PS1, then the burn speed may not be best at 1X. I want to say burning at 2x or 2.4 x yield the best results for me for PlayStation 1 games. For me to be able to burn at those speeds I had to install an old in the CD burner that had an IDE connection. I just used an IDE to SATA converter to achieve that. The reason I had to do this was because DVD burners wouldn't be able to write under 8X speed which made the discs completely unreadable.
Anyway, I would recommend getting a DVD burner that can burn from 1X up to 8X and trial and error each speed to see which one yields the best results.
Verbatim was always a good brand but I'm not sure if they still are today as they were 8 years ago

Thanks. I burn at 4X. Freshly burned are fine. Discs that are a year old are the ones failing.

@@rentoptional1524 Interesting, but not unsurprising. About 2 years ago I read an article on DVD 'rot', where discs slowly oxidise and this appears as tiny pores on the surface of the disc. Basically a good portion of our game collections are destined for a sad end. However, the rot should take a lot longer than a year to set in.

yeah same, would love to know the answer to that mister DV to 2.1 switcher question 😁 (rt4k down the chain) (I'm looking for an hdmi 2.1 4in 2out that can do that and ship to france, preferably not with crazy shipping/import tax😂)
would also be curious about dual 1536p output to ipad3 vrr driven panels with one of those switcher (though it's a waste to use an hdmi "2.1" switch, but I might use it only when I have some friends over to play some games, so not every day👍)

Is that last commenter asking about DVD *burners* or recordable DVD *media*? It's hard to tell. (I have a bunch of drives dating back 20 years, both IDE and SATA. My desktop has three that don't suffer from RipLock speed restriction - it's basically my DVD/Blu-ray ripping station.)
Also, the dodgy reliability of burned media vs. original discs is less about the laser in the drive than it is the pigments in DVD-R/+R media that allow you to "burn" discs not being as readable or as long-lasting as commercial discs, which are stamped.

On my soft-modded (FreePSXBoot) PS1 I use Verbatim CD-Rs burned at x4 speed, but even then I get around a 20% reject rate. It's weird as once a CD-R is working, it works reliably even if through use (and poor storage on my part) it gets scratched

Hey Bob! Couldn't find a better way to reach out, but regarding your recent post about the SGB tools:
I've been playing with them for a while now, and wanted to confirm some things for you as a fan of the tool and SGB.
The output of the converter isn't necessarily for emulators, as those can typically just use an image file for a border. The .sgb file *can*, however, apparently be used by the MiSTer SGB core. I can't test it myself, but I've no reason to doubt it.
I can 100% confirm that the injected border and palette data works on real hardware - be aware, though, that there is a small bug. If while injecting the border you neglect to enable and include the "custom palette", the game area of the screen will not be visible when you load the ROM on original hardware.
This doesn't seem to affect emulators, but for original hardware through a flashcart, be warned that you must include the custom palette for things to work as expected.

    Need help!
Trying to connect my nes to my BVM 20f1u.
I’m using a GamesCare scart switch. Scart out to the bvm, and scart in from the nes. I am using an NES AV scart cable.
However couldn’t get a picture to show up. What should my input be? RGB input? Or should I set up a specific input configuration? If so, how should I configure it?
    Truly appreciate any explanation 🙏🏼
