    I went and watched Tea and Art’s video. While I am still a novice, what I noticed was that her colored resin had moved and almost completely closed in the center before she poured the clear, which makes me think it’s probably due to her lower viscosity resin. It’s also amusing that she didn’t get the result she was looking for, even though she was pleased with it. 😄

    In your next video can you explain what that V word means? The low and high. Thanks

    • @kdscraftcorner
      @kdscraftcorner 8 місяців тому +2

      Viscosity is the thickness. Low means thinner, high mean means thicker and of course medium is in between. A low viscosity resin would be like water, juices, milk, or heavy cream. A medium would be like vegetable oil, glycerin, pancake syrup, and most dish soaps. A high would be like honey, molasses, melted chocolate. Resin doesn't go thicker than high viscosity, but there is very high which is sour cream, jams, peanut butter, caramel.
      I hope this helps.
      But maybe this is something Michelle could cover in her live tomorrow too. 🤔

    Your resin could have something to do with it. But I don't think it does. Didn't she use Craft Resin? I'm pretty sure that's a medium viscosity. The original recipe does call for a low viscosity, though. But Tea and Art tested techniques until she had success doing this one.
    I think you used too much mica, it gets heavy, it was competing with your white. You probably used about 2x, maybe even close to 3x, the amount of mica I would have used. I would have taken the round end of your double-sided little spoon and done 1 heaping spoon of it.
    The alcohol ink could have also been a factor. These techniques use either resin pigments, resin inks, or acrylic inks. Resin Inks have a tiny amount of alcohol in them, but not enough to affect your results. Alcohol Ink has too much in it. If you have the Let's Resin pigments, which comes in 10 colors, I think. Then using that red would work. If you don't have those or another red resin pigment (not to be confused with pigment paste) or acrylic ink, then don't you have Castin Craft Red? That may work if you only use 1 drop, maybe even less by putting a drop on silicone and dipping your stir stick into it to just get part of it and mix it in the resin and see if you get a nice transparent red out of it. If not, just get a little more on the stick.
    The original larimar calls for 2 liquid resin pigments with just a tiny amount of pearl mica in each, a white, and a clear. But you can get the same results using other techniques.
    If you want the conversion amounts to get your molds recipe based on Tea and Arts. You need about 145ml total for your mold, she used 160ml. Then divide the amounts in each cup by her total. Such as the 45ml white would be 45÷160=.281 or 28% of the total ml used. Next multiply the .28 by what your mold holds so, 145×.28=40.6, round that up to 41. So, you need 41ml of the white. You just do that for each color, then subtract those from your 145ml to get how much is left for your clear. So, for the others you need 32ml mica and 23ml transparent color, leaving 49ml for the clear.
    As for the colors and amounts I would still use the same amount of white, 1 heaping spoon as mentioned of mica, for transparent color it depends on what you use. If you have a resin pigment, then maybe 2-3 drops and see if you get a nice color payoff. If not, add more.
    And if you decide to try Let's Resin Deep pour let it sit for about 10 minutes, maybe even 15 just like you do for a 3d bloom. You aren't waiting to get it to a certain temperature, you are waiting to allow it less time to move, because it's going to be thinner than a low viscosity resin. And I would turn on the heat mat about 45 minutes to an hour after you finish pouring your coaster.
    I hope this helps. And I hope your next one comes out perfect ❤.

    I think it turned out pretty still. I think it was the fact that you used alcohol ink instead of a pigment or Acrylic ink. I like the white edge, you are way too hard on yourself.
