    Here are 2 great starter lenses for your EOS film camera setup. You’ll be good with either choice. The 50mm is usually more affordable, has a 1.8 aperture and renders awesome images. The 40mm is super sharp and compact but doesn’t open as wide and usually costs more. You can’t go wrong with either. ( These are affiliate links)

      @@CraigBergonzoni well, initially I wanted the eos 3 but the elan was cheaper, even less than the ae-1. I’m totally new to film so I hope to learn. Seems kind of complicated.

    I recently bought an EOS 50E (with a Tamron 28-200 zoom mounted on it) that was bought and only used for a quick test for a project some 16-17 years ago, the project was dropped and the camera had been sitting in a cupboard ever since. It was practically brand new, and still smells like new even. The guy said the battery was dead but he new the camera worked because had never actually been used, so I brought a battery, replaced it and true enough, it just powered up and worked. I consider myself very lucky.
    I was never any good when I shot on film (all manual cameras, didn't develop negatives or any of that myself, so it was a slooow process where I learned nothing), but improved a huge amount after I went digital and now I wanna go back and see what I can do with it now.
    I checked your videos here to find out what I should go for, and when this baby turned up for $50 including the lens I jumped on it.
    I also had no very good lenses back in my film days, but now I adapt a 70-200/2.8L and a wide Tamron Zoom that are a lot better than what I had back then, so I'm sure it'll be fun and waaaay better this time around. (I gave the Tamron 28-200 zoom away.😏)
    Thanks for sharing your passion!
    And stay safe!😊

      That's awesome you found that! Very exciting. I can relate to what you're saying about shooting film back in the day versus now. I shot when I was a teenager and in college but never really grasped everything needed to really be creative with it. I wanted to but my camera at the time broke and I didn't revisit film photography until years later. Mixing film with my experiences with digital made me a better shooter all around. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! It sounds like you have a really awesome set up there. Enjoy!

      Sound like you got a great deal. I (and presumably many other people your age) share your photographic trajectory, with digital making it possible to explore the possibilities and to now return to film with more purpose and skills.

    These a great cameras and it's great that so many are still around to be purchased and used. The best is if you can find a cheap one bundled with one of the more decent lenses like the EF 50 f1.8 or the Ef 24-85.

      Definitely! Finding one with one of those lenses is a great package. But even if someone has to buy a 50mm 1.8 and one of these they're still getting an affordable setup.

    Nice lighting. I bought some film and batteries. Just waiting for them to ship. I bought ilford hp5 plus, Fuji c200, Fuji superia xtra 400, Kodak gold, ultramax, and color plus 200. Testing the whole field. It cost $10 per roll to develop in Jamaica and it’s just one guy who does it. I’ll have to invest in my own kit because that’s crazy.

    Like your videos on the eos film cameras. They have been very helpful for me getting into shooting film as a Canon dslr shooter. I have picked up the eos 5, eos 50, eos 500 and eos 3000 (for my daughter)... One diy fix of sticky shutter aside... I love the feel of the eos 50 as an everyday film camera...

    The only thing I think you really forgot on all your reviews is the frames per second. The Elan ii cameras shoot 2.5 frames per sec and the Elan 7 shoot 4 frames per sec. It doesn’t sound like much, but it is nearly twice as fast.

      @@CraigBergonzoni Ok. It's just that I saw others comment on it as being pretty much unusable, but I can't help thinking that if it really didn't work well, Canon would have scrapped it again. And modern eye-af has spoilt us to the point where even focus-and-recompose seems an ancient way to work now.😁
      I'll give it ago sometime. Here in the beginning I think i'll revert to focus-and-recompose using the middle focus point, and let the "fancy" stuff come later.

    Can you tell me the difference between the Elan 7E and the 7Ne???

    • @CraigBergonzoni
      @CraigBergonzoni  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Louis, sorry for the late response. Here are the main differences that I know of: 1. Design changes (like textured surface & raised lettering of setting and logo on the 7ne) 2. Illuminated Top LCD Display on the 7ne 3. Faster AF on the 7ne (although I didn't notice much difference in practical use) 4. Improved Flash Metering on the 7ne. I also talk briefly about these differences here - ua-cam.com/video/t1ubKi526gk/v-deo.html I hope this helps! Thank you for watching and commenting!

      I have used both. There’s not a major difference. I actually owned both recently and decided to sell the 7ne and keep the 7e (mainly because the 7ne would sell for more) They’re both great but I’m good with my 7e (actually now I just have the 7 no eye control version)

    What's the difference between the 7 and 7e and 7ne? I'm looking at ebay listings and I have no idea which one I should be looking out for. I had heard one of them had issues with eye control.

    • @CraigBergonzoni
      @CraigBergonzoni  4 роки тому +1

      There aren’t a ton of differences between the 7n and 7. The main ones being improved flash metering, improved AF (not sure how drastic) and some subtle design differences. Also, the 7n has a backlit LCD top screen. All models with the “e” are the eye control models. This feature is Okay. I would say don’t search for this model but if you end up with one you don’t have to use that feature. All of these Elan 7 variations are awesome cameras. Of all of the EOS film cameras I’ve used the 7 is the one I’ve used most recently. Thanks for watching and commenting btw!
