When I was the age of 10; my parents immigrated my little sister and I to the United States from the country of Bangladesh in 2007, after winning the Diversity Visa lottery, at the beginning of the recession. Despite everyone warning us against going there back home, my parents did it for the sake of their kids’ futures, and an overall better life that they could never give us in Bangladesh. I remember coming off the plane in JFK and waiting at the immigration, watching many service members return home from deployments in military attire. When we were picking up our luggage I remember seeing some Marines in their dress blues, one of them waved at me. I knew at that moment that someday I wanted to join them. It took years of waivers due to my medical records, but I earned the title of a Devil Dog eventually, and receiving my EGA was one of the proudest moments of my life. Despite all the hardships and the divisions, I can still say it with 100% confidence that this is the best god damn country in this world, and this is where I belong and where I will die and be buried. The home of the free because of the brave.

I'd like to know what the Commandant, USMC hardly ever shows at this event but yet the Assistant Commandant does? The equals of the Commandant show. Is he too good to show so his next in command does?
I commented on another Medley UA-cam about this, but I figured I would ask it here too. Why isn't the Marine officer saluting? I noticed that several Marines past and present were just standing at attention in the audience. I read somewhere that a high ranking Marine is requiring that Marines sing the Marine song instead of just standing silently at attention. While I was in the Navy for 20 years, I have to say I like the Marine song musically. I was in the Navy choir in bootcamp. I had to learn the Navy song and hymn, "Eternal Father," in which I like the hymn better ofc the two. I have to give the Marine Flag and Rifle Corps here a thumbs up. Talk about cutting some sharp moves when coming out! I noticed also how they kept the U.S. flag tightly furled, after all, the attention is on the branch flag during the medley. As a Navy photographer, I got to see this up close while stationed in Misawa, Japan. I volunteered to photograph the Marine Ball since they said they had no photographer. The Marines got down to all the ceremonial stuff first with cutlasses, standing at attention, and cake cutting. Once that was all done, I got to sit with them and eat steak. I also got an etched glass Marine stein for helping them out. A unforgettable thing was a small group, including their commanding officer, shouting "hoorah" unexpectedly in front of me after exiting the room, after the cake cutting. They saw how I jumped, I admitted I was startled, and we all had a good laugh over that.
*Please excuse any typos in my other comment.* This was a great concert. The medley is one of my favorite parts of it. One of the best past concerts was when they performed music from the movie, "Saving Private Ryan" one year. Regarding the medley, does a lot of this music have a game day historical background? A lot of it sounds like it. I am sure I can find out some historical information.
