I think using the dough scraps for the black stripe was probably the main issue. Because the dough wasn't made black from the start, trying to incorporate the color into already mixed dough meant it ended up getting overly mixed, so it got chewy and stretchy. It didn't quite fluff up the way the rest of the dough did.
I was just thinking that. "Wow, I wonder how much that dough will be over mixed than the rest," and I was right! Well, they were just prototypes anyway, and they still looked great in the end.

Back in the Stone Age (the 80s), I had to learn to laminate dough and whip egg whites stiff by hand. I also learned to test sugar syrup BY HAND ( no lie, sticking an index finger in 300 degree syrup). Consequently, the sheeter and 80 quart mixer are now my besties.
Because she already has money and fame which opens doors far easier. Plus, as much as I enjoy cooking and baking, it's definitely not a dream to do it as a career, as I know I'd come to hate it.

And imagine doing all that dough laminating with a rolling pin, amazing that small bakeries make any croissants let alone the dozens you can get any day.
I haven't had a croissant in years and someone gave me one at a meeting today...and then you post this. I'm also finding this video after watching a movie that referenced merkins multiple times. 😅 The stars have aligned.
This place clearly was already popular (line out the door) but now they will be crazy popular with millions of safi fans now crqving a sweet flakey crunchy bite!
Should really try some Danish or Copenhagen recipes for butterdough and Wienerbread . They start out the same, but end out flat with a hole for the filling . Classic fillings include a yellow cream, red jam or a rolled in layer of cinammon . Major final shapes include the snail @, stick | and kringle 🥨 . The kringle is big enough for a dozen people or more, but remains the bakery icon .
I live for croissants. Most days of the week I get up early to get them fresh at 7 am when the local bakery opens. Nothing beats a fresh croissant to start the day ❤
One of the things I love about saf the most is when she hasn’t posted in a while and to get my fix I start binging her vids again only for her to post a new vid and heal me once more
The one time I'm not in Denver and Safiya drops the collab of the year! Sooo wish I could try this delicious creation, but I will definitely be hitting up Black Box when I'm back in the city!!

If I was asked to choose a single channel I can watch for the rest of my life, I would choose this one because this just feels like a cozy hug after a long day of work. Thank you, Safiya for your channel that brings me so much joy
Now that is a chef that loves their job, they’re both having so much fun!
I had to go gluten free over 10 years ago due to an autoimmune disease. Croissants are the one thing I miss so freaking much. So jelly you got to do this. 🖤
Been gluten intolerant for over 20 years and I don't think I've ever had a croissant. 🙄🥐
I am vegan and croissants are difficult to find, but since I've moved to Paris I've had the possibility to try a few
and I am so grateful
There's a lot of gf products available nowadays, maybe you could find a gf flour and bake your own?
@@yriEth baking any type of dough without gluten is incredibly difficult, the gluten is a fundamental component that gives the dough structure. I think a GF croissant would be a pale imitation of the real thing, if even possible in the first place
@@potatoppppower 100%. I've seen gf crescent shaped rolls, but making an actual croissant would not be possible with gf doughs. We can't even get a gf donut unless it is cake style.
Great British Bake Off has taught me so much about pastries and laminating dough that I felt smart for knowing what she was talking about when she was explaining it haha
My french ass will Never get over foreigners prononcing croissant in the best french way possible xx 😂😂 it cracks me up all the time
The fact that Netflix or Amazon hasn't given Safiya her own show boggles my mind
Edit: Guys, please calm down. I'm not saying Safiya should stop making UA-cam content. I'm just saying I can picture her on a streaming service hosting a limited docu-series centered on a specific topic, or maybe she's a judge in a competition show or something. Again, I am not saying she should stop making UA-cam content. Please chill out.
Hard agree! She should have a series doing things like this and maybe travelling mixed in. Somebody feed Phil style maybe
Honestly she gets more freedom doing it this way. I'm glad she's still on UA-cam
Will Netflix sucks for a multitude of reasons I would prefer she stayed on UA-cam and away from corporate yuck
Netflix is too cheap nowadays for that
I think she wants to be her own boss. Her and Tyler.
Im dealing with a lot rn including losing my job, having great videos like this to give my brain a break are much appreciated.
so sorry to hear that. here's a feel-better quasong 🥐
Hope things get better for you! Im going through a tough time too but this video was so fun lol
I'm so sorry! Sending good vibes, and I hope things improve soon!
Hoping things get better ❤
Back in the Stone Age (the 80s), I had to learn to laminate dough and whip egg whites stiff by hand. I also learned to test sugar syrup BY HAND ( no lie, sticking an index finger in 300 degree syrup). Consequently, the sheeter and 80 quart mixer are now my besties.
Saf is literally the only creator that can get me to watch and care about ANYTHING
kinda want to exclusively eat croissants in cube form now 🤔
How did a comment from UA-cam get ignored
@staccato7930 yeah like what??!
Why is she always just living my dreams in every one of these videos
I think that's what makes this series so good. This is what youtube fame should be used for.
I'm listening to Sky Above - Starburst. It's available on most music apps
:)
Because she already has money and fame which opens doors far easier. Plus, as much as I enjoy cooking and baking, it's definitely not a dream to do it as a career, as I know I'd come to hate it.
She always posts right when i need her! ❤
I love that this video promotes thinking outside the cube. I have successfully laminated a starter-based dough: butter makes everything better!
This is what I call content and educational!!!
I love seeing behind the scenes how private business or public small business run their restaurants etc!
I’m a big culinary fan but can’t cook. 😢 but love to see process videos!
As a person who practically lives in Denver, I had no clue that we are the hub of all things croissant. Learn something new everyday! I'll definitely have to check out Black Box some time.
Gosh dang what went into those croissants was some high level expert shit. Mulled wine ?? Elderberry honey ?? Earl grey ganache ?? Makes me want to be a chef
I’ve missed Saf & Tyler.
WE NEED VLOGS PLEEEEEEAASE!!!!! 🙏
agreee
I love watching this longer videos, but some shorter form content is also nice
I do some vlogs and safiya was one of the inspirations behind me having enough courage to start it
I will forever be grateful
I'd recommend Sky Above - Starburst on most music platforms :)
You're a natural and that pastry chef gave me straight panic. Like a lot.
I'm not a fan of orange oil or spiced desserts but the custom one sounds delicious. Thank you to everyone involved for this glory and for the laughs.
I think this is one of the best videos yall have ever made. I love how you guys partner so well with various businesses and stay so humble while learning the ins and outs of a new world! SO FUN! Thanks for entertaining me every day
7:22 it looks like the “mishmish” has some dried apricots on top and/or as filling, which makes sense since “mishmish” “مِشمِش” is the Arabic word for apricot!
That’s what I was about to comment! We also say mish mish for apricot in the Assyrian language
@@madday9589omg makes sense since they’re both Semitic languages
that's so interestingg! i thought she meant kishmish lol, which is hindi/urdu for raisins
It’s the same in Hebrew! Makes sense because all of the above mentioned languages are Semitic languages
@@tinybeomgyu3467 interesting we also say kishmish for raisins
the chef seemed SO nice! she even made jokes with you two hehe loved the video
i'm literally eating croissants RIGHT NOW
like i put one down to click on this video
how did you knowwwwww
my croissants are gone :(
Not to over share but my family is dealing with a lot of loss right now and I’m so glad to have a new video from one of my favorite comfort UA-camrs 💖
The way I recognized at least 50% of the intro clips about different croissants from various Japanese and Korean foodie vloggers. My youtube interests all combined into one video.
Seeing clips of Claire Saffitz in a Safiya Nygaard video brings me immense joy
Claire is goated
SAME
Yes!! I came here for this comment, I recognized those hands 🙌🏼
A collab would be amazing
Always happy to see Claire! Although for a video so focused on croissants and pastry, there was a distinct lack of Bruno Albouze 😂
1) Cwassonts! Delicious.
2) You are a brave soul for attempting them as they can be fickly buggers
3) I live on the opposite side of the country but I want a Black Box pastry.
4) your videos always brighten the day. Please keep them coming!
Dutchie here: we have crompouce, which is a croissant x tompouce. A tompouce is a dutch delicacy, look it up!!
I love croissants (and pastries in general), have lived about 30 minutes outside downtown Denver for my whole 32 years of life, and had no clue it was a hotspot for croissants. Thank you for helping me get to know my own home town better, lol
It's a recent development thanks to all of the trendy spots that pop up with all of the gentrification 🙃 That place used to just be a King Soopers
Chef was so shook when Saf asked if they needed salt 🥺 proud chef 🥹
I live 10 minutes from this bakery! Everything they make is heavenly. Love that you are giving them a spotlight!
Good for you ! I wish to try these pastries so much, but live thousands miles away
Safiya and Tyler living everyone’s dream is trying to do new things every other week and making A+ content out of it is just top tier entertainment 💯
Eh, them travelling on the train is the only dream of mine they've done. And getting to be with the person they love. 💔
ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT! Safiya & Tyler are a perfect team! Respect!
Is this anyone else's new favorite saf video to rewatch? I know I'm not the only one who rewatches all her videos and I love this one since it came out
I love that she went here! I used to live right down the street from Edgewater Market and I love that Safiya got to see Denver when the sun was out and a train wasn't rushing her away, lol. I hope she, Tyler, and her team had a good time! Thanks for the video!
Denver has like 250 sunny days per year, so it was likely lol
Love that you got to learn about our beloved demon horse Blucifer. He did in fact fall on and kill his creator. Legend goes his son completed him with his glowing red eyes after his death.
unleash the power of the cube 🥐
Surprise. I don’t mean to be a bitch (I love your videos) but it seems like there’s thousands of people who comment and u only tend to react to Tyler’s comments. Would be nice to see u interact with the people who watch your videos and make them a reality
Egg mountain
"I certainly leveled up my knowledge from zero to *some* "
I love this and will definitely be using this phrase in the future
loved arielle's vibe, i could listen to her all day!
Safiya, your videos give me such comfort and reassurance that not everything in this world is awful. You're just out here doing random cool things and sharing it with us in a such enjoyable way. Have rewatched all your videos so many times as they are such a joy! So happy whenever you post and I'm so glad you only do it when you have a good idea and don't just churn out any old thing. That being said - i would watch paint drying if you were also in the video. Keep being you and know that we love you so much! ❤️
she is such a comfort
im literally in love with arielles voice
honestly... same 😮💨
Wait, I thought it was just me
welcome back queen and honestly those croissants looks ✨divine✨
Ooh so glad you had fun here in Colorful Colorado! And thanks for opening my eyes to a new bakery, will have to try Black Box ASAP!
I honestly like the space between videos. It makes the next one like a special treat 😅 They don't come often but it's something to wait and look forward to. Too many videos at once I honestly wouldn't be able to keep up with it or watch all of them.
I can't get over how labor intensive this is!
And imagine doing all that dough laminating with a rolling pin, amazing that small bakeries make any croissants let alone the dozens you can get any day.
Ariel may be the chilliest person I've ever seen on this planet 😂
Arielle* 😛
I haven't had a croissant in years and someone gave me one at a meeting today...and then you post this. I'm also finding this video after watching a movie that referenced merkins multiple times. 😅 The stars have aligned.
I love your bad science series! Maybe you should do every LIQUID soap from a place that has a lot of liquid soaps
This place clearly was already popular (line out the door) but now they will be crazy popular with millions of safi fans now crqving a sweet flakey crunchy bite!
The fact that you can post like once a month at most and still be one of the most beloved youtubers ❤
Wow what perfect timing! I was just looking for something to watch when your notification popped up 😁
34:25 Tyler's reaction was so cute, just in awe of the beetle-JUICY! Loved this video. As always, it's a great day when our Queen posts!!!
Nothing beats a fresh croissant to start the day ❤
arielle was so chill and funny, she gelled really well with your humor
One of the things I love about saf the most is when she hasn’t posted in a while and to get my fix I start binging her vids again only for her to post a new vid and heal me once more
I’ve been in the middle of a massive depressive episode for about a month now and life has been rough. Saf’s timing is IMPECCABLE 👌🏻💜
The one time I'm not in Denver and Safiya drops the collab of the year! Sooo wish I could try this delicious creation, but I will definitely be hitting up Black Box when I'm back in the city!!
AHHH!! I DIDN'T GET NOTIFIED! 😭 Thanks for the community post or I would have missed this! ❤
For what it’s worth, Ariel (please correct me if that’s the wrong spelling) has by far the best speaking voice I’ve ever listened to.
Arielle. 🙂
its a good voice❤
Finally a new video! Sending love from Daejeon, South Korea❤
Literally in Denver for the first time in my life this week. What excellent timing.
I love watching "food" being "fooded" especially the process so these videos feed my souuullll
One of my favourite videos so far 🥹 I work at a cookie bakery in Canada and its so funny seeing the same storage containers I have to use at work 😅 I love seeing how others in the industry work! Awesome video ❤️
Finally uploaded…….i have rewatched almost all her old videos…would def watch all over again ❤❤❤❤
Obsessed with how passionately Saf says croissant every time 🥐
Warning, if you run a business that involves makeup, food or something that can be melted there is always a small chance that you will wake up one day to Safiya outside your door with a blowtorch.
So what you're saying is...I need to come up with a business making a product that's really satisfying to melt
This series is my favourite content of Safiya besides the hauling series and the Amazon packages series!
I can't wait to watch this 10 times whenever I'm bored bc how rewatchable these are✨️
i like how when she makes her videos, there’s almost always a brief description of the topic, makes it entertaining to me idk
bot copied your comment and got top 😭
@@mistyz0ne grr
That was the perfect goth croissant really. Most goth folks are dark & twisted on the outside, but sweethearts to the people we care about🥰
