as a university student in the Netherlands I become more confused and worried for (prospective) students in the USA each time I watch a college video. the mental pressure of getting into really good schools, then often having to sacrifice so much of you and your family's financial stability in order to study there, which leads to more pressure... I don't mean to be rude because I do see how amazing some of these colleges are and obviously I have never experienced it myself, but it seems very problematic. I find it incredibly concerning that Americans think it is normal to have insane student debt... that must be so unhealthy. and the whole concept of extensive financial aid also bothers me - if the majority needs financial aid to survive the school, doesn't that ring the alarm that tuitions in general are too high? Financial aid is supposed to be for those in dire need. If the majority is in such need, there is a problematic system. I wish the US government would do something about this, because this whole college/university system seems really unfair, from what I've seen.
You can get an okay college education here for a reasonable amount. A person could hypothetically go to community college for two years and then transfer to a state school to get a bachelor’s degree. The one downside to this is that these schools aren’t as prestigious as say Stanford or an Ivy League. And that, unfortunately, matters.
Everything nazjaa hate about Stanford: 1. Stanford Bubble 2. Lack of access to restraunts and fast food (Can order food) 3. Wifi sucks - disconnect a lot 4. Unessary fee for everything 5. Tuition is very expensive 6. Have to apply to many things after getting into the school (clubs, classes) 7. Quarter system (break time is not the same as other college) 8. Flake culture and duck syndrome 9. Administration doesn't really listen to student concerned 10. Imposter syndrome 11, Mailing system (lost mail or delayed mail) Thank you nazjaa!
You should make a video addressing the pros/cons of picking a college far from home. How hard was it to adjust etc. I’m from Atlanta and will be attending college in New York (either Columbia or Cornell) and would like some advice.
coronavirus really displayed some major issues at these so called “elite” institutions. Like I love my school (Go Tigers!) but the handling of corona really showed deep institutional flaws that are really only being addressed cause students themselves are actively advocating for change.

Hey Nazjaa, I was class of '91. Funny how some of these were issues back then too. One difference was we didn't have guaranteed housing so I lived off campus for a couple years. I saved a lot of money but it meant I lived in the town, close to restaurants and fast food and rode my bike to campus. Also, we didn't even have wi-fi because no internet yet! Pretty much everything else was the same. Duck syndrome, haha. We talked about that when I was there. I wish I could do it all again.

I feel like "flake culture" isn't stanford specific: people in college are busy and have a lottt going on (esp if ur involved in a lot of diff things). That, however, definitely isn't an excuse and leads to me say "You make time for who/what is important" -- which honestly is just life, and means people need to reflect on who they're trynna connect with

Hey Nazjaa! Thank you so much for this video! I'm a Stanford 2024 admit and almost commit! Could you do a video at some point about work-study and job opportunities? Thank you so much!
I'm a current student - my experience with work study and jobs has been great! There are so many opportunities to work and get that $$. Stanford has multiple portals/websites that help with your job/work study, depending on your interests. I've been able to both work abroad on Stanford's $$ and currently work multiple lab jobs (even remotely now cuz of covid). Really accomadating and great experience
So if you have 3 terms per year, does that mean that most Stanford students finish their degree requirements and graduate in 3 years as opposed to the “traditional” 4-year track at semester-based schools? Thoughts on that?
Hotel California i.e the Stanford Bubble :+) I went to University of Pittsburgh...we had culture, city and variety all around us...easy to get around too:+) God bless~

San Francisco is 35 miles away, what do you mean there isn't a city nearby? Stanford is a PRIVATE school, if you want a cheaper price go to a public university that's what I do. All of these things you "hate" are comical.
Since you do not go to Stanford, your comment on MY experience and MY opinions is irrelevant. You cannot relate. When you are a low income, busy college student, a city 35 miles away is not close, nor is traveling there easy or cheap. As for the price, my comment was directed at college education in general. Like I said, I luckily don’t have to pay, but my classmates do. Low and (some) middle class students can’t pay thousands of dollars over 4 years, private university or public. Literally everyone has the right to complain about the price of a college education in America. Thanks for watching.
@@nazjaa As a low income individual, I chose a place that fits my income. If you chose a high income area to go to school that's your choice. Complain about your choices some more please.

I CHOSE to pursue an amazing opportunity at one of the best schools in the country, hopefully securing a better education and job prospects in the future to better my chances of helping my family and no longer being low income.
