  • Our new electronics lab is practically finished, it makes us happy every day. The main point of the lab is to provide space for polishing our clocks and building equipment for the production of nixie tubes. But we will also work on other projects with nixie tubes - the first one to be built in this room is super complex, sneak peek in the video!

That high speed display is cool. Since you have 10 numbers per tube they each "only" have to run at 10khz, right? If you needed even higher speed you could double up the layers but I guess it would get too crowded unless you slightly offset them. You could also make a dot display if the speed is faster than the tubes can handle. Then you just count the number of dots that are lit up per frame to see if it is accurate. Kind of like an abacus.
One suggestion is to mount the power outlets to the bottom of the shelves or on a board across the back, so they are above the stuff that is stored on the shelves giving you easier access. This is almost exactly how I picture my perfect lab though.

At 15 minutes there is the High Speed Camera calibrator. I was surprised that you are using Nixies for such an instrument. I love Nixies and thermionic valves for thier aesthetic value. I would be interested to see more information about this instrument from a practical standpoint.

Only comment I have is I would have use Server PDU's for the electrical plugs. But that's just me. You can usually get them for peanuts at auctions and they allow you to do a lot of things. Measure the amount of amps each line is using for starters (most have an LED display for that built in). But more importantly you can control them remotely and set up all kinds of useful things such (depending on model) staggered power-on of all the individual powersockets to avoid high peak currents in case of brownouts or a power interruption (short or long).
