- Watch in 4K Resolution! Here's a video of the typical Amtrak activity in the San Luis Obispo area on a weekend. We first see the midday Pacific Surfliner turn as it arrives from Los Angeles and then departs for Los Angeles and San Diego. Then, we see the dueling southbound and northbound Coast Starlights as they travel between Seattle and Los Angeles, and vice versa. We see trains on parts of Union Pacific's Coast Subdivision and Santa Barbara Subdivision. Locations include Edna, San Luis Obispo, Stenner Creek Trestle, and Santa Clara Road in southern Atascadero.
Trains:
Train 1: Northbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Train 1761 is just minutes from the end of its trip up from Los Angeles as it accelerates through Edna.
AMTK 164 - P42DC
AMTK 6908 - Cabcar
Train 2: Southbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Train 1790 begins its trip at San Luis Obispo with the same trainset as it heads for San Diego. This train would actually terminate in Oceanside as this weekend was the last of three consecutive weekends in January when the tracks between Oceanside and San Diego were closed for track work.
AMTK 6908 - Cabcar
AMTK 164 - P42DC
Train 3: Southbound Amtrak Coast Starlight Train 11 eases downgrade at Stenner Creek Trestle with Amtrak's commemorative Phase III P42DC number 145 trailing.
AMTK 23 - P42DC
AMTK 145 - Phase III P42DC
Train 4: Northbound Amtrak Coast Starlight Train 14 powers upgrade at Stenner Creek Trestle.
AMTK 190 - P42DC
AMTK 510 - P32-8BWH
Train 5: Amtrak 14 crosses Santa Clara Road in rural Southern Atascadero.
Enjoy!
Great video of the Coast Starlight trains 11 & 14 North of the San Luis Obispo Amtrak station & South of the Horseshore curve and all train action of the Pacific Surfliners.
I love your movies! So sharp and colored =) Crazy long zoom =)
Nice to see 145 again.
First time, I am watching a train being pushed, rather unusual. Normally power is used for pulling. Don't know why it was done. I am sure that power could have been switched to the front. Thank you for your video, though 6 years ago. 🤩👌😀
They are using a lot of power on those trains
Great video! Maybe you could name the direction in which the train is supposed to be traveling. I appears obvious but it wouldn't hurt.
+Locomotive450 You should do a video of pacing the Metrolink and a video of pacing the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner.
I have a question. I work for the company that handles 777 at night and turns it as 774 in san luis. How long have those flat cars been sitting there? They are still there now.
Ah, I figured that the overnight servicing was done by a contractor. SLO seems like it would be too remote for Amtrak to have a mechanical base there. Anyhow, Union Pacific uses the siding there for long term storage of empty intermodal cars. They seem to come and go during the year based on intermodal traffic, but this latest set seems to have spent the better part of this year at that spot.
Did you see lily from rails of highland valley 8:37?
I have a question what camera do you use?
I have a Samsung HC-VX870
Locomotive450 Ok thank you😁
Love the trestle footage! Here's a view from the sky of the SB Amtrak heading into SLO through the tunnels on the grade - ua-cam.com/video/AfzOlZL5suw/v-deo.html
