  • This is a HAZET 916 SP ½ inch reversible ratchet from around 1976 with 32 teeth. I own this ratchet since 1996 and therefore used it for many tasks. For the last couple of years it has been stored in a toolbox. Sometimes I used it outside exposed to the rain and bad weather. That’s why the ratchet has some serious corrosion throughout. I’m glad the tool is back in my daily toolbox ready for missions. Have fun and thanks for watching.

Nice video for UA-cam but the ratchet will be like before in 2 weeks. You need to blacken the mechanism with gun bluing liquid and electroplate or chrome again the ratchet. You also need to put grease in all internal parts, not just the ratchet wheel.

Hi there. Thanks for your comment, appreciated. It‘s not the idea just to do it for YT, but more as an added value. In this particular case I agree fully, nothing to add but to say that it was not the idea to go the full way of restoration on that particular project. Will keep your comments in mind though👍Thanks

May I recommend you to watch the full rear wheel resto of my velosolex project where bluing and chroming is shown to make it last. Thanks

Thank you for posting this video. You did a great job. I have restored many ratchets through the years myself with good results. I am curious why you did not use a bench grinder with a wire wheel to do all or at least 90% of your metalwork though? I cannot imagine restoring old tools like this without using a bench grinder and wire wheel. The task without a bench grinder appears so labor intensive to me.
Again, great job and great results. Enjoy the fruits of your hard work.

Hi there, thank you very much, appreciated. Indeed you are right, it would have been much easier and more efficient. Simple answer to the question, I’m moving my workshop and the grinder was not installed yet😬 Have fun with your projects
