The old dance hall,as kids we called it that, we would hike a 24 of beer to 2nd or 3rd floor on a fri nite and drink, getting down tipsy was tricky,,,, good old days ,great pics of the place well done
Anita Louise Martinez is right, I too have been there many times and had similar thoughts... very well done, and Thank You for posting!!! Thank You ALM
Thank you for these. No one who doesn’t have ties to Fort Erie, Crystal Beach or has ever been at the theme park experiencing the log plume, water slide (thump thump thump thump) Comet, Monster, bumper cars, skeleton piano man, castle maze with angled floors and walkways with blasting air, could ever understand. 😞
even i understand! but only from exploring the ruins. wish i could’ve ridden the comet and the cyclone and gone to crystal beach and waverly beach when they were open.
aunt sandy - It was the base for an amusement ride. If you look at an aerial view from the time you can see the various rides. At 2:08 you can see the casino. To the left is the dance floor and left of that is the ride where the base now stands.
Thank You for this wonderful slide show. Way back in time my Dad, I, and my brothers walked the ruins of Erie Beach went the casino shell was still there. Dad would tell us of this wonderful place that he and Mom spent many weekends. Because of this posting, I can step back and time and see what I remember Dad telling us of this magical place. What a wonderful place it was. To bad it was not taken care of properly for us to enjoy today.
@@Rockawaysiren - We are fighting it. A group, Community Voices of Fort Erie, was formed and has launched an appeal (delayed by Covid 19) to preserve the woods and beach. Please go online and sign the petition. There is also a bike/foot path where townspeople have strolled and walked their dogs for decades. We've done a lot of research. In addition to Erie Beach Park, this area of Fort Erie was the bloodiest battleground on Canadian soil in our history (The war of 1812). In the past builders tried to just cement over the bodies. In 1987 an incident was reported to the police and 28 soldiers' bodies were removed and repatriated to the US. Many British bodies have yet to be found. It was a settlement for escaped slaves and a group of African Americans also met at the park in the early 1900's and formed the NAACP. There are endangered species on the site, it's a wildlife corridor and it's a migratory site for birds and Monarch butterflies. That's the tip of the iceberg. If the condo is built (as well as over 100 proposed homes) it will be the only condo on the North shore of Lake Erie and open the floodgates for more! It's all about money.
@@susieq9801 Thank you!I have signed it. For anyone else looking to sign it's on Change.org Save Waverly Woods. The 10 story condo is just the most ridiculous thing. WHY does that part of Ft.Erie need that? I hope this pandemic shows that our precious, IRREPLACEABLE forests are far more important than an ugly condo.
Used to walk from the South End to the Dance Hall every weekend to play among the ruins when we were kids in the late 50's and early 60's.

Now developers want to build condos on what is left. Shameful. As a young country we have so little history because we destroy what we do have.
@@susieq9801 Really? Gross. They just can't leave it as part of the waterfront park? Of course they can't. And I bet it'll be a gated community!!
