    I remember going there as a kid. We drove across the peace bridge to get there. I still miss the magic carpet and the wild mouse.

    Had a great time there in the 60s and 70s at the annual Otis Elevator picnic. Wonderful childhood memories. Also went a number of times in the 80s with friends in my late teens and twenties

    it's so sad that those of us who enjoyed Crystal Beach cannot share the rides, smells and atmosphere with our children {really heartbreaking}

      I remember upon return talking my mom into buying fireworks to sneak back into the states. mainly 1.5" "thunder bomb" black powder. firecrackers that were hardly the equivalent of an underwater fart. as far as the beach goes the condo people have claimed the beach to be exclusively theirs with large concrete barriers blocking it off. how about having a big party on each side of it for a boom box convention. unless the condo people think they own the sky too.

    What really happened? Mr. Hall was naive. He was suckered into a predatory loan. The first thing they did was sell off the original hand carved & painted hershel carousel ride horses. When the loan principle came due & he did not have it the auction was made immediately. They were already destroying the un movable structures. e.g. the giant roller coaster, laff in the dark before any kind of preservation could be undertaken. What is really bad is how all the features had been preserved & in perfect working condition. With today's love of nostalgia crystal beach wold have been a tourist stop like Niagara Falls, Buffalo's architectural treasures to people who would come to Toronto from all over the world being Toronto is the largest international Airport in Canada. It provides no consolation but one of the main guys involved in the scam later has been convicted of some kind of fraud & imprisoned.

      Not only was that an antique carousel, it was what was called a Menagerie Carousel. It had a seahorse with a conch shell at the rear of the seat, there was a lion, a mule, more. I had a chance to buy the mule when it came up for sale early 1990s but I was transferred to another city and couldn’t make it work. It just killed me when the park closed. Couldn’t even bear to go to the last day of business.
      The Comet is now in Lake George (or at least last I know) and I was able to ride it there. It still smells the same, that grease smell around the first turn from the mechanicals. If you close your eyes and listen to the click, click click, it’s almost like going back in time.

      @@ohnoflicks hi. In Buffalo, n.y. they have restoration procedures active. It was, given access to a carousel that was in storage since 1956. I am wondering if anyone remembers the first phase of the partnership 1980 the. 2). Sell off for cash huge

      The antique car ride. Under 48" tall can enter. "Let junior take the family for a ride" I remember how you could reach through the windshield under the hood. Turn & hold the throttle wide open. It would make the ride operators unhappy when we would get to the end right on the
      rear bumper with our front.

      @@ohnoflicks the ride was disassembled & sold for cash. If I am not mistaken one horse sold for $250,000. To bad there are condos in place now. an authentic fully maintained time trip back 100 years. Thoroughly functional. Toronto international Airport brings a lot of foreign travelers & Chrystal Beach would have been a very busy attraction. You could ride a bus to go to Niagara Falls on to Buffalo that has clean modern accommodations. A treasure unlike anywhere is crystal beach.

      Back to crystal beach. I used to see people play the skee ball machine using those funny looking paddle shaped French fry forks turned backwards to get free games. jump off the laff in the dark car inside the building. You should have seen the looks on the faces of the operators when they had seen my friend chasing the car out of the building at the end of the ride.
