This person made 8 jackets, let's all like the video pls 😅
Thank you x
Yes!!!!!
I remember that vintage, purple, M&S fabric! They did it in pink as well. I had the pink in a duvet cover in 1974! I loved it but it is long gone. Well done for keeping that going for 50 years! I was thinking of making a quilted gilet but now I think it must be a jacket. Thanks for the inspiration.🌹
To prevent my quilted jacket from sticking out, I ran a line of thin, round elastic with a needle across the back above the waist and it brings it in just slightly. Made a big difference.
Thank you for the quilted makes. They look lovely, so will review this video again and decide which one to make. Surprised at the GBSB pattern. Very elegant and well drafted. I’d have to lengthen it. Appreciate you sharing your measurements. I found that very helpful.
Girlie!!!!! I’m from Oklahoma and you have a new follower and subscriber!!!! And I’m saving your video under quilted jackets.
So funny. I like the Tamarack jacket the best.
I think shoulder width makes a real difference on how that one fits and also height.
@@sequingirlie I'm sure you're correct. I'm 5'8"
Thank you for all the tips - especially loved the idea of using twill tape instead of binding & the tip to use sweatshirt fabric for lining the arms rather than batting/wadding. I have big arms & this has kept me from making myself a quilted jacket - now I know what to do! Thanks so much. ❤
Your jackets are amazing Sam!! So beautiful and colourful, thanks for sharing ❤
Great Great video!
Fellow UA-cam sewer/clothes maker here! I love your style and this video is inspiring! Please keep up the fantastic work! Xxxx
You are very welcome. Thank you xx
Hi Sam. Wow -- you are going to be an oasis of color and lovely design when the cool weather settles in. Thank you for sharing all the wonderful quilted jackets. My favorite has to be the Japanese pink and blue one, but what a difficult choice -- they are all fantastic.
I've been working on the Moss Jacket by Helen's Closet. As usual, I'm ending up changing every pattern piece to make it fit or to be the way I want it. I made the pockets like the Hovea, changed the kimono-style sleeves to be semi-set-in sleeves, added a back yoke of knit fabric, tweaked the collar quite a bit, and made a sample up out of a flannel print. I'm almost ready to sew it up in a Japanese dobby cotton fabric once I get all the changes back onto the paper pattern. Then who knows... a quilted version maybe.
I love your vlog and as always feel so inspired after watching you with your amazing combo of creativity and energy to the max, Antonia
Thank you for making this video. I have wanted to make a quilted jacket since early in the pandemic. I bought the Edyta Sytar beachcomber pattern, I even bought the "cheater" quilt fabric for the top. I just need to break it all out and get started. My favorite of the ones you made were the short-wasted Sewing Bee pattern, so I might need to look into this one. As a quilter I have plenty of quilt tops that I could easily quilt and use for pattern pieces.
LOVE the colors on the #2 jacket!
Thank you
I have a wardrobe of mainly vests and a few jackets. Eight is not too many. They are a great place to try a new technique. They are so fun to wear and give me just a little warmth. Thanks for the review of the techniques.
Thank you so much. I'm now making some more lol
Wow, thank you for taking so much time and effort, fabulous information and inspiration, thank you again❤️
Just discovered your podcast and, through that, your You Tube channel. LOVE your advocacy for small businesses and slow fashion. #SoulSister
Keep up the good work 👌🏼
I love that you made eight jackets. What a whirlwind you are!
Loved it all Loved your hair
Thank you xx
Personally. I really like the GBSB one on you.
I have not finished watching yet. But am wondering if you have tried sewing the front fabric pieces together as a single layer, trimming back the wadding to the seam line. Then flat felling the inside seam.
Thank you so much. Great info and I am ready to make 1 or 8.lol sew on !!
Lol. I think I am going to have to give a couple of money away x
Love these jackets…you are amazing..love watching your vlogs thank you sho much Sam ❤😊
You never cease to amaze me how much you sew, I am envious. I loved watching this video & it was full of great information! I especially love your first jacket with your self drafted collar, the sewing bee & lilford, nothing wrong with the others though either . I have so many scraps you have motivated me to use them in a jacket.
I want to try the Ilford jacket. Thank you for the excellent review.
What a fantastic vlog, thank you. I have made the Ilford in cord fabric but am now inspired to give a quilted one a go.
I just made a quilted jacket with the sugaro top pattern which I’m really happy with
Your quilted jacket review is amazing , thankyou for all your sewing ! As a sometimes quilter I have plenty of quilting and WIPs so you’ve inspired me to give it a go …probably with the GBSB pattern .
WOW! Can you really have too many jackets/coats? ! I'm not even sure which was is my favourite. They each are unique and have interesting details and fit. I do love the pockets on the rainbow coat, big deep pockets are so useful and stylish. I made my quilted jacket using a vintage Simplicity pattern and a thrifted quilt. Because of the size of the print, it took some careful cutting. After watching Rachel from French Seams, i bought the Tamaric jacket pattern, and it was on sale. I'm glad you told us the sleeves fit narrow. Right after i bought that pattern i found a beautiful quilted blanket at a thrift store. I also have TGBSB quilted jacket pattern. I'm planning on lengthening it, I like my bum to be covered. And I'm going to make it a patchwork using fat quarters. I was going to make it a true quilted coat with quilt batting and a contrast lining, but when you used sweatshirt fleece , well that is brilliant!! Oh, the long quilted jacket! Do I need one? NO! Do I want one? YES! Thanks for all the research and the tips. I am putting this video on my saves so i can refer to it when making my next jacket.
I have two Sam...the Hovea and the Molly from Fibre Mood, and of course the Ilford - which I haven't quilted to date. Love your Ilford and think I will give that a go. Thanks for your vlog you are so creative.X
Thank you so much. I can't believe I am building a bigger list of ones to try xxx
That was a great vlog…. I only recently bought a piece of quilted fabric, thinking I could make a jacket…it will need to be lined…but seeing all yours, I now know I have many options…and we are exactly the same size….thanks again, I only just found your post…!! 😊🇦🇺
Omg your jackets are all amazing. I was talking to some friends yesterday about your impending vlog, I then had a lightbulb moment, I have so many quilt tops made but not quilted, these need to be made into jackets and possibly tops and dresses as well as jackets. I love the last one, but the Ilford and Hovea are my favourite
Thank you Angela. Wow a quilted capsule wardrobe x
I really like your first jacket and the Ilford one too. Someone on Minerva made a quilted jacket from a company called Minikrea no. 70575 and I really liked the look of that too. It has a lovely collar and what looks like princess seams on the back to give it some shaping.
Absolutely loved this vlog. Thanks Sam I think I will have a go 👍
Oh that is so great to hear xx
I adore the fit of the Jackie O!
I was going to ask if any had a hood option, which jacket 8 answered, but I don't particularly like the shape.
I might check out the Coda jacket suggested below.
I love your "lots of one item" videos, so comprehensive and helpful.
Thank you so much. I love doing these ones. They take months in the making but I really feel it is worth looking at something in an in-depth way xxx
Loved this!! And thanks for the shout out! Amazing selection and so varied but each absolutely gorgeous ❤❤
Thank you so much xxx
"Sticky outious" great term (not sure I spelled it correctly) but we all know what you mean. I love the jacket fashion show. So fun to see all the different ones. When you finish the seams edges separately I think it's called a Hong Kong finish. I used it when I made a linen jacket, and I used really light weight cotton, like batiste for my bias tape. You can also be fancy and use silk, which is also very light and doesn't add much bulk. It was great to see all the different finishes you used on the inside. Your leftover white quilted fabric would make a lovely vest (waist coat). Many years ago I made a quilted jacket with a mandarin collar. My mom told me to use slippery lining fabric to line the arms. It was wonderful, even if I was wearing a sweater underneath I could easily get my arms in and out of the jacket. Thank you so much for sharing all your beautiful jackets. They are all so pretty and colorful.
Thank you so much xx
Amazing Sam! Well done on making so many. I loved the Sewing Bee on the best. I’ve tried a few but have struggled with fit around the arms and shoulders (especially if bound seams).
Wow! That was a great comparison. I do love the shape of the GBSB jacket. Hangs beautifully. I have the Tamarack and have not made it but I do have big atms so that information is very useful.
Highly recommend you size up on the arms. Thank you for your lovely comment x
Wow, well done, I have just made my niece a quilted hoodie following a pattern by wellspring designs, and l love it and don’t want to give it away. It took forever as I bespoke made patchwork for each of the pieces before cutting out and machine quilting. I have the tamarac pattern ready to make a jacket for myself. Your tips are so helpful.
Ok Sam, you take the 'crazy sewing lady' 1st place prize! You crushed all of them. Normally, I am not really a fan of anything quilted. But you have made so many versions, with different fabrics and combinations, that I am, mayyyyybe reassessing my need to try one for myself. Yup, I stuck the video out to the end and I am so impressed with your honest comments about the patterns and their features. Entertaining too, to watch while I sew. LOL, for the Tamarak, you have to give it the American English A., not the more pleasant sounding British A. 🤣
Thank you Sam, that was such a useful Vlog. Lots of ideas on how to approach the quilted jacket. I love the use your fat quarters as I have lots of them. A few projects to finish then I'm looking at my piles of fat quarters 😅😊
Love this. Thanks for your dedication 😂 great to see how all the different patterns fitted. I’ve bought the wildwood by Helen’s closet and have intentions of making a chambray patchwork one. ❤
The Ilford was my favourite. Great vlog that was very informative thank you.
Thank you so much xx
You have made some beautiful jackets. Thank you for sharing
You are very welcome xx
Love the long one with the pockets!! You have inspired me. I would put closures on it though. I wonder if you could put buttonholes in the fabric or would it be too bulky. Maybe toggles of some sort. It is just lovely. 😊❤
I made it to the end and really enjoyed this Vlog! I’ve honestly never thought of making a quilted jacket before, but when I saw your GBSB one I thought that would look great for work, right before you said it! Thanks so much, I might have to try this X
Thank you Laura. I've put the link to that pattern in the details. I think it would be a great pattern for you.
On dear! I lost count but I think it was the JackieO one I liked best. The fit was the most flattering... I think... 🤔
I love the fabric so much that I used for that one xx
Such a useful vlog. I am currently making up some patchwork to make short Hovea so was very pleased to see your endorsement of this pattern. Unlike you, I am working at snails pace. Ditched my first idea of using random blocks as I realised it would look like a dog’s dinner. Now working on all over squares with crosses from Karen Lewis’s Wabi Sabi Sewing book. Your advice on seams will come in useful.
Thank you. This is amazing. So many ideas and solutions and styles!
Im so glad it was helpful x
Love the jackets such great ideas thank you😊😊😊
Thank you so much
Loved this vlog xx your jackets are gorgeous ❤ which is you favourite pattern ?.?
Thank you. It is hard to choose as I do love the hovea but the fabric I used on the Jackie o makes me love it.
😘😘😘😘😘
Loved this and the jackets, thank you!
Thank you so much
The white raglan looks very nice on you, but it's not my preferred sleeve. These are so fun.
Thank you so much xx
These are all lovely!
Thank you so much xx
Cut the sleeves off #7 and it would make a lovely vest!
Excellent blog, very interesting. Have made the tamarack, fits me well once I widened the arms, but we are very different body shapes.my personal fave is absolu jacket by atelier scamitt, have made four so far, May make more! Such a useful cardi style jacket for intermediate weather and wearing in the house in the winter. Have also made Molly by fibre mood, not my fave, but K think its because of the dropped sleeve, that style does not suit me as well. Think everyone needs a quilted jacket or two ! I have the pattern fir the cida, yet to try that one.
Oh more patterns to look at xx
What was your solution for the sticky out back? Did you take from the side seams, make darts or cut away from the centre?
Love this tutorial. I am going to try the love notions Coda hooded jacket...
Thank you. I haven't tried that one xx
Quilted jacket that a house coat. Love this blog
Thank you
Do you think French seams would work
Hi yes I did them on the tamarack jacket in this episode. It is the orange one.
Hmmm.. I think you may need to give the cream and blue jacket to me since it's too big for you. Lol.
You might get it. I'm thinking what to do right now. Drop me a message on Instagram xxx
@sequingirlie lol. If I was in the UK, maybe. I'm in Canada.
You sound like a market trade trying to sell a kitchen gadget
So is this a kind of compliment or are you commenting on my accent? Hard to tell.
