    I just wanted to thank you for your videos on the 728. Had a 25 on order and was taking to long. Your videos and a few others convinced me, that this is the machine I need. I'll use it manually and happy I got the dro and powerfeed. Just wanted to day thank you. It's very helpful and I appreciate your time and effort

    Congratulations on the new toy! I just got my pm30mv yesterday lol. Going to do a full cnc conversion with Acorn. Thank you for all the time and effort you have put into your channel. You have been a huge help!

    Its good to see you back and excited about a new mill. I saw Matt's post about the new machine about 6 months after I got my PM-30MV. I think I would have gotten PM-728VT if it had been available at the time I bought mine. It looks like a much better platform for CNC conversion. I look forward to the adventure.

    Awesome Franco! I’ve been flirting with this same idea. Can’t wait to see more of your videos on it. Ciao, Marco.

    I went to buy a floor mounted pedestal drill at $550, salesman who knew my work said “That’s made in China, you need one from Taiwan” He was right, it was twice the price, but I have never regretted that choice. Great machine, just glad I had my wife with me so she could see the difference and approve on the spot. With a tapping head it must have tapped tens of thousands of threads. In the recent history of machine tools Japan used to be cheap, then Taiwan and now China. China does seem to improving though.

    I just saw this machine on Precision Matthews site. I am glad you will be using one as your next project. I have a PM-25MV that I wanted to convert but never got to it. I bought a full DMM tech servo kit and I don't think any of the plans people have will work as I will need a belt reduction. Maybe you could do DMM servos on this. The price is not as bad as you think.

      @@FrancoCNC haha. I had not even finished my cnc conversion (pm25mv) but I'm also thinking of a bigger mill in the future. I'll be following your build for sure. 👍

    How about a vid on PM-25MV vs PM-728VT like your PM-25MV vs G0704? Looking at PM-728VT or PM-30 for CNC. Like the 'add on' standard features on the 728 but seems the weight could be an issue, as in Flex.

    Does this machine have easy horizontal adjustment to drill holes in at an angle?

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  4 роки тому

      Hi. It has the same arrangement as a full size knee mill. When you loosen up the bolts that hold the head in position, there is a gear that allows you to accurately adjust and position the angle of the head. This is the only bench style mill that I've seen with that feature.

    Looks Great! But I'm still considering the PM-30. It weighs 200 lbs more than the PM-728VT. It has gr ound ways and a few other features. 2HP motor VS 1 HP. 230V VS 120V. Any suggestions appreciated.

    Hey Franco.Thank you for all the great videos. im thinking about buying a PM-728VT with the intent of converting it to CNC. Do you know where to find a ballscrew kit?

    Awesome! I assume this is going to get the CNC treatment. Would be interested to see the difference in the column rigidity at the base. Looks like the bolts come up from the bottom on this model. What are your thoughts on the mounting of the head to the round boss on the Z slide vs the wider contact on the PM25? Looking forward to more videos about it. Thanks for sharing!

    Hello, we just purchased a 728VT for our high school engineering program. What vise do you recommend? We will eventually convert the machine to a CNC in a few years once students get used to doing the manual options. Also, any good suppliers for tooling and accessories would be great. We got a set of collets and a keyless chuck from PM, but need to outfit this since it is our first machine. Thanks

      Hi. Any of the 4" vises that PM sells will fit. I tend to mount them with the jaws parallel to the Y-axis as this seems to give me more use of the available travel of the machine. Here is a link: www.precisionmatthews.com/product-category/accessories/milling-machine-acc/workholding-machine-acc/milling-vises/
      If you are willing to spend more money the systems from Lang are very compact and offer the ability to quick change:

      When it comes to general supplies, Shars is a good "budget" option: www.shars.com/

      @@FrancoCNC What difference are you getting on your 728 in the y axis? Over a 8in distance I am getting about 0.010in which I think is way too much. I don't really want to break the column from the base and shim it, but not sure what else to do.

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  4 роки тому

      @@wilkinsworkshop That is too much. My PM25MV was darn near perfect from the factory. I'll check my new machine this afternoon. I'd reach out to PM and ask them about this.

    I wonder why they put r8 spindle on it, that should be replaced on modern machines with something like an ISO/BT/CAT 30 spindle, r8 is oddball stuff

    Franco. Can you get us detailed overall footprint and travel/space need?

  • @pda1957
    @pda1957 4 роки тому

    Looks like a nice machine. I am still working on my G0704 conversion and trying to figure out how to control spindle motor speed and forward/ reverse with my centroid acorn board. So far all the motor controllers I’ve looked at need bi-polar speed signal (negative voltage for reverse) and the acorn is only 0 to 10 volts. Will you be doing something like that to this one?

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  4 роки тому

      Yes, I will be doing that. I'd like to have full CNC control of the spindle for this machine.

    Congrats on the new Mill/ I would like to learn how you do your 3d model like to did on the PM25MV , My new stepper nema 34 should be here Friday if things work out I have everything to start the CNC conversion on the pm25mv!!! one question how did you run your grease line for the Y axis?

    • @FrancoCNC
      @FrancoCNC  4 роки тому

      Great question. Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/wv51LASPP9Q/v-deo.html
      I found these 4mm push to connect fittings. I think they are popular because of 3D printers. They seem to be the fittings used to build the feed tubes that guide the filament into the hot nozzle. Then, I purchased some metric grease fittings. The 4mm fitting threaded into the ball nuts. Then, I just tapped a hole in the base of the machine, threaded a fitting on the inside and a grease fitting on the outside. Bam! A grease tube is born! Worked on both the Y and the Z axis.

    Hi man, nice video, but „Ultra precision „? lol. Maybe for America and Asia... we have a slight different „ultra precision „ understanding. Ask Stefan Gotteswinter if you want to learn about „ultra precision“.Greetings from Switzerland!
