She is still the best Mimi today. From today’s generation of sopranos, she stands out in roles like Mimi, Violetta, Tosca, Magda or Adriana...while other sopranos perform these roles too, she clearly is distinctive and the more noticeable one, at least to me she is :)
I'll have to disagree on this one my friend. Her Mimi is so exaggerated and weird, not natural at all, it supposed to be that Mimi is this fragile, beautiful, sweet woman and she's slowly dying, right? I don't see anything of that on this interpretation, her face expressions are very strong and totally out of naturality ( and some out of context) , which is the foundation for an opera singer's acting. Pay attention on the way she says the "addio... Senza rancor" who says something like that with that corporal movement? ... On that part specially has to be subtle, gentle... Soft, like you know you are burning in pain on the inside but you can't tell much about it , she's saying good bye to someone she loves "good bye without any hard feelings" she says... Dude... With that only line I'm dying in sadness... She doesn't transmits that, I don't wanna cry with her. You know? Check out Mirella Freni' s Mimi for example.
I watched her Mimi at ROH in 2012 and to those who say her voice is small, it certainly wasn't then, it was immense. Regardless of how big or small her voice may be now or back when, one thing which is indisputable is that her sound is a thing of beauty that few can match, now, or at any time previous. I did see her more recent Tosca and her high crescendo in Vissi darte was very short lived and not good, but I guess age is taking its toll.
@@hayakou5 Her voice was never small, you are seriously deluded. In her prime her voice was bigger than most and more beautiful than all of her peers, in fact, I'd say like Callas, Gheorghiu was a rival-less soprano in her prime.
Still the best Mimi. This is my favorite recording of this. I always start to cry when she sings “Bada…”
Kiri is my all time favorite Soprano but Angela OWNS THIS ROLE. Her voice has so much richness and emotion in her sound. Shes become one of my faves
Just fantastic!

@@malcrichings9052 lmfao firstly it’s Mezzo not Metso and she is not a mezzo. She’s a lyric soprano

Q
In her singing voice, the vocal foundation is not good. that is why her voice is small. Like a jammed trumpet.

She is the best Mimi hands down. No one can touch her in this role.

She conveys the emotion in this song insanely well and it is not an easy one to pull off, Brava!
Esta soprano es muy orgullosa....pero claro...con toda la razon. Ella sabe que su voz es inimitable.
