Another great video, Kay! I've enjoyed all of the ones I've watched so far. In another comment, I told you that I had flown in a friends Cherokee 160 for 3 weeks back in 1972. Back then, there was no GPS or IPads. Garmin wouldn't be formed for another 17 years. So, I'd like to see a video where you explain the function of all gauges, indicators, GPS and whatever it is that you have on the IPad. In 1972, we were still using paper charts and a compass! Anyway, I love your videos!
I've been flying since the age of 19. Cessnas. I had a former Air Force fighter pilot as my instructor. He taught me how to really fly. I was Army reserve by that point. He was always on me about getting the army to train me. I took his advice and flew Helicopters and did a couple of deployments. I haven't flown as a pilot in about 10 years. I love it and miss it. When I was a pilot, it was old school instruments. Still miss it. keep doing what you're doing young lady. If I ever meet you, I'll buy you lunch. Have a great flight !!!!!
You're a good pilot. You know what you're doing.I'm boxing it and you're doing fantastic on your pad and everything else I've been following your lives.Well I'll ask yo s a six months
T’was the night before Christmas (Aviator’s Edition) Twas the night before Christmas, and out on the ramp, Not an airplane was stirring, not even a Champ. The aircraft were fastened to tiedowns with care, In hopes that come morning, they all would be there. The fuel trucks were nestled, all snug in their spots, With gusts from two-forty at 39 knots. I slumped at the fuel desk, now finally caught up, And settled down comfortably, resting my butt. When the radio lit up with noise and with chatter, I turned up the scanner to see what was the matter. A voice clearly heard over static and snow, Called for clearance to land at the airport below. He barked his transmission so lively and quick, I'd have sworn that the call sign he used was "St. Nick". I ran to the panel to turn up the lights, The better to welcome this magical flight. He called his position, no room for denial, "St. Nicholas One, turnin' left onto final." And what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a Rutan-built sleigh, with eight Rotax Reindeer! With vectors to final, down the glideslope he came, As he passed all fixes, he called them by name: "Now Ringo! Now Tolga! Now Trini and Bacun! On Comet! On Cupid!" What pills was he takin'? While controllers were sittin', and scratchin' their head, They phoned to my office, and I heard it with dread, The message they left was both urgent and dour: "When Santa pulls in, have him please call the tower." He landed like silk, with the sled runners sparking, Then I heard "Left at Charlie," and "Taxi to parking." He slowed to a taxi, turned off of three-oh And stopped on the ramp with a "Ho, ho-ho-ho..." He stepped out of the sleigh, but before he could talk, I ran out to meet him with my best set of chocks. His red helmet and goggles were covered with frost And his beard was all blackened from Reindeer exhaust. His breath smelled like peppermint, gone slightly stale, And he puffed on a pipe, but he didn't inhale. His cheeks were all rosy and jiggled like jelly, His boots were as black as a cropduster's belly. He was chubby and plump, in his suit of bright red, And he asked me to "fill it, with hundred low-lead." He came dashing in from the snow-covered pump, I knew he was anxious for drainin' the sump. I spoke not a word, but went straight to my work, And I filled up the sleigh, but I spilled like a jerk. He came out of the restroom, and sighed in relief, Then he picked up a phone for a Flight Service brief. And I thought as he silently scribed in his log, These reindeer could land in an eighth-mile fog. He completed his pre-flight, from the front to the rear, Then he put on his headset, and I heard him yell, "Clear!" And laying a finger on his push-to-talk, He called up the tower for clearance and squawk. "Take taxiway Charlie, the southbound direction, Turn right three-two-zero at pilot's discretion" He sped down the runway, the best of the best, "Your traffic's a Grumman, inbound from the west." Then I heard him proclaim, as he climbed through the night, "Merry Christmas to all! I have traffic in sight."
LOL!! I do the same thing! Any time I say there's a [blank] in something, I automatically follow with "there's a snake in my boot!" I cracked up when you said that after -lol!
I used to get horrible tonsillitis every year and after I got my tonsils out at 19 I haven’t had one sore throat in over 40 years! Thanks for taking us along on your magneto adventures Kay!
Kay- I had strep throat 29 times between age 4 and age 25 The doctors could not keep it from returning. I am a minister and while in seminary, one of my professors gave me the name of a doctor to see. That doctor explained to me that the strep bacteria lodges between teeth and gums and makes the strep active over and over. Unlike the other doctors, he put me on a very low level antibiotic for three months. I was taking one capsule a day during that time. It worked! I am now 70 years old and never again had strep after age 25. If you keep having strep come back- talk to your doctor about trying this.
Thanks for posting, I'm a little sad that you didn't have any video of the installation, but as you say, it's all good. While I am not an aircraft maintainer, I do have 40 Plus years, of maintaining race car engines. "Points" Magnetos like the one you had fitted before, are 1930s technology and we have come a LONG way on from that stuff. Race car engines have run solid state ignitions since the late sixties and we're not even trying to get off of the ground in most cases! A solid state magneto for your engine should be a big step up in reliability and consistency of performance. I'd welcome you doing a review comment on your experiences. To be completely honest, I was genuinely shocked to learn that people are still using "Points Magnetos" Looking at some of the NTSB final reports sends shivers down my spine! 🫨. Fly safe!
Hi, I'm from the UK love watching your videos, and how happy you are all the time, and that you explain everything that you are doing as you start the pre-check and during flight. Keep up the great work. Ian
Kay- If you call 3M's toll free number, they can tell you a 3M master tint installer in your area. Not for dark tints, but for 3M Crystalline. It is clear and bocks 98-99% of all IR and UV. Really keeps the heat out. Invisible when installed. The are 2-3 European companies making similar products.
I had a past sell by date headset where the mike used to end up in outer space . Fixed it , bought a new headset with a mice which did not swivel all over the place . A simple bendy stalk which is performing like a dream .
Nice job! Not sure if it is the same issue but I had a difference of about 200’ between what my altimeter said and what ATC was reading. Turned out, the encoder needed adjustment during the pitot/static and transponder check that was done at my last annual. That fixed it! I’ll be following to see how you like the new magneto!
Gonna be great! Love your videos. I did som flying out of ILM and GSO and a couple others in North Carolina years ago with basic avionics for 1976 LOL. I actually flew the same plane as yours pkus Cessna 150 and 170.
You have talked about looking for different longer destinations. If you ever make it to the PNW and into EUG or 77S to avoid the commercial traffic at EUG, I'll buy you a cheeseburger just for the chance to meet you. Not sure how I stumbled across your channel but I am really enjoying it and learning things even at my old age.
Hi your videos are just great I'm an old (very) pilot from Aussy I used to fly an old Piper TriPacer in the 60's my doesn't time pass, keep up the good work ( fun that is )
A good instructor is a. Must. Lots of people out here just trying to rack hours and just go through the motions, if your not learning and improving and building confidence it time to move on to another instructor.
New sub , A&P but retired from Delta. Also used to fly. The solid state mags should be better than you have. Less fuel and more power than before. Still have to do the mag checks though and less internal parts to fail. So I’m all for that.
I Need an avionics upgrade like that, I train on complete steam gauges in a 1972 Pa-28 140. Having more of a glass cockpit Is way more simple so I don’t have to look all over the cockpit to find one single gauge, instead have a screen with everything infront of you.
You are an amazing pilot. You have so much energy. A couple of questions. 1. Do you not have seatbelts in your airplane? 2. Do you fly as a hobby only - or do you fly for a living or both? If this is a job what do you do? Really enjoy your videos. Stay safe and happy flying.
The new magneto should reduce system electrical resistance and increase current. I used to fly from runways 9/27 out of Antioch, CA. This was 40 years ago. Since then, a subdivision was built where the airport once was. A middle school went in too. Their school mascot is the "Aviators". When you ask some of the locals if they know why, they don't have a clue! 🤔😄 That's a well maintained paved runway there in Texas; nice for keeping the landing gear healthy. Thanks for the video! 😀
Hi 50 year glider pilot and instructor, enjoying your channel. So maybe no great flying experience with engines! But also Electronics Engineer, Solid state is the way to go kid! Enjoy. I wish more of the modern electronics revolution was showing up in GA?
I like the new view from the camera on the tail, gives a great wide view. In the second half I noticed it was gone. Why did you set the altimeter to 1000 ft before take off??? I suppose where you are that's the height above sea level but in my thinking you would want to know how far above land you are.
KAY ITS MARK AND LEFT YOU A GREAT COMMET AT ANOTHER VEDIO BUT YOUR MAINTANCE VEDIO WAS GREAT. AGAIN I AM AN A&p mechanic(retired) and most of my experience is airliners but i have 20yrs general avaition maintance experience. mark san francisco.calif..
My uncle served in the USAF 30 yrs until his retirement, one of his jobs was to test pilot new fighter jets. Of course he had his own plane and lived out in the bush in Alaska. Myself I'm terrified of flying did it once never do it again 🤣
Once you mention how "Cherokee" sounds like "Turkey" I can't unheard it. I suppose I sounded the same! You talk faster then a Los Angeles approach controller! You give those ATC people a taste of their own medicine.
Why would anyone not use autopilot on a 5 hour flight? Thats like telling me no cruise control. No way, man! lol. Also I love all the other interactions between pilots and ATC and how you explain them to us. Great video. Hope you're feeling better from the Strep monster. I have tangoed with that monster many times and not one of them was enjoyable.
The timing should stay the same, but the spark maybe hotter so could effect fuel burn to the better. I have no knowledge if that would be true, but may promote more complete combustion?

Not sure you will ever recover the additional expense of a magneto in fuel savings. I would only switch a magneto if I was having less than satisfactory performance out of the other ones.
The benefit of a solid state magneto is not only a great way to save fuel but it is beneficial to cylinder flame burn and CHT/EGT monitoring.
You look and sound so happy today
The family that bought Lil Red, do you think they are using it for star attraction being that you are a you tube sensation? And your a entertaining aviator.

I love the way you say, 'green'. When you say it, you say it like it's a two syllabol word, 'guh-reen'.
Kay,,,I am a retired USAir mechanic. I really enjoy your very informative videos. You know your stuff girll! Keep on flying!!
I’m no mechanic but it makes you a well understood and well taught teacher and Guide Well Done Ms Kay
You're a good pilot. You know what you're doing.I'm boxing it and you're doing fantastic on your pad and everything else I've been following your lives.Well I'll ask yo s a six months
Thank you for making us a copilot on your trips. Love it!

I LIKE WATCHING YOUR TAKE OFFS AND LANDING FROM INSIDE THE PLANE WELL DONE RICH
T’was the night before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, and out on the ramp,
Not an airplane was stirring, not even a Champ.
The aircraft were fastened to tiedowns with care,

He called his position, no room for denial,

And what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a Rutan-built sleigh, with eight Rotax Reindeer!
With vectors to final, down the glideslope he came,
As he passed all fixes, he called them by name:

Hi, I'm from the UK love watching your videos, and how happy you are all the time, and that you explain everything that you are doing as you start the pre-check and during flight. Keep up the great work. Ian
That was a good flying of you Kay for your full flight maintenance. You did fly so well Kay with your excellent piloting skills. My support is for you
K-Viaters. Love it ❤!
Can’t wait for results from the test flight with Pops!
love you videos
Its fun flying with you Kay.Looking forward to all future flights with you.
Love the tail cam!!..and refreshingly unpretentious..(great camera angles)..IFR rules
So much professionalism in your videos

Nice t-shirt. I bought a white one at Oshkosh and wear it when flying my 1976 Piper Arrow II
A very good Sunday morning to you all from Wellington Somerset in the UK 🇬🇧
I had a past sell by date headset where the mike used to end up in outer space . Fixed it , bought a new headset with a mice which did not swivel all over the place . A simple bendy stalk which is performing like a dream .
you are a happy pilot likin that.
Always a pleasure. Enjoy your vids.

subscribed, liked, and enjoyed 2 of your videos today. Thank you Kay.

I heard the solid state mag, helps with starting and provides a bit more power. A cleaner burn of the fuel
Outstanding and clear. Great use of your checklist every time.
Thanks for the videos. I try to see them all. Don't know how you can afford it but happy for you
Now - about to finish the video, but good choice! I installed one a little more than a year ago - is been rock solid!
You have talked about looking for different longer destinations. Hi, I really enjoy watching your video's. You are a very good pilot. You also make me laugh at some of you comments. Keep having fun.
Enjoy your short flight!
It was nice🥰
Love watching you have Intelligence in your eyes

Awesome Kay.. I just watched your flight with the new mag. Then watched this video. Your extremely good pilot. I was amazed.
Just great to watch..!
Awesome job! Really enjoyed the ride along.
hang seat covers on a fence and go at them with a pressure washer
Young lady you do a very good job.keep up the good work.chase the dream😊.
Go Kay nice person nice plane 👍👍👍🇺🇸
You're doing a good pilot pilot
id fly with kay anytime.
You are an amazing pilot. You have so much energy.
A couple of questions.

Oh wow I might have to catch a football game or something, I love the mascot name!
Thank you for watching!!
I flew ultralights out of Antioch before it closed and we moved to Byron.
Oh that looks like so much fun!
It really was🥰
I want to fly with Kay?? I would have even installed that thing-a-maggi for you!
Mechanical mags are antiqueted and all state is the way to go
Hi 50 year glider pilot and instructor, enjoying your channel. So maybe no great flying experience with engines! But also Electronics Engineer, Solid state is the way to go kid! Enjoy. I wish more of the modern electronics revolution was showing up in GA?
I just ran across your channel today and have watched several of your videos. I would like to see you fly any other aircraft that you are rated for.
It should be good. Solid state mags are the way to go.
I’ll keep you posted, I’m looking forward to it!!
Kay of fly with kay
do what makes you happy
Great video Kay, enjoy watching you fly and talk 🤭
Thanks for you reply to my comment. My flight instructor Danielle chewed me out when my garmen showed 16mph.😂 I believe you in a Cherokee 180.
great video kay. very enjoyable
I enjoy all your videos been following you for a while now thank you so much😊😊😊😊
Oh wow well thank YOU so much for your support!!!
Mag should help with fuel burn and power on take off.
I like your Vlogs there fun watching them you are a very cool pilot

I am a kid but I really appreciate that work the you do
Kay I will be so honored to fly with you anytime you want me to do and I appreciate you alot and your show’s and I love you always 🌹❤️
You are amazing pilot
Awe thank you so much!!
Nice way to retire that recurring Bendix impulse coupling AD note. Unless you already had Slik mags.
Love your videos ❤
You need to fly o kggg love to meet ya all
Why would anyone not use autopilot on a 5 hour flight? Thats like telling me no cruise control. No way, man! lol. Also I love all the other interactions between pilots and ATC and how you explain them to us. Great video. Hope you're feeling better from the Strep monster. I have tangoed with that monster many times and not one of them was enjoyable.
Flight was only 15 minutes long. I do use AP for long flights. :)
turn your weather on and only listen to the noise.
A black runway! Is that to hide all of the tire marks? It will absorb a lot of heat.
Capt. Kay, how about taking a passenger along once in awhile? A friend or another pilot.... Great videos😊😊❤
When are you going to come to Edmond. Okla
The timing should stay the same, but the spark maybe hotter so could effect fuel burn to the better. I have no knowledge if that would be true, but may promote more complete combustion?
You would make a great flying instructor
Love your channel thank you
No thank you! I appreciate the support and I’m happy to hear it!!
New to your channel love the content! 😊
I hope your new solid state magneto changes things
love your video if i my ask i see jets off and on all day then i see one looking like its going 100 ft then its gose 300 ft side ways how do yall dill with that i am not good a typeing hope you can under stand it looking to hereing back from you have good day
Next level, you will fly Learjet. You will be Captain. ( girl power).
no 500 hr mag checks on the solid state you need to keep some duct tape in the cockpit to fix little things like your mic lol glad your feeling better
Hahaha I might just have to buy a roll😂 And thank you!!!
Not sure you will ever recover the additional expense of a magneto in fuel savings. I would only switch a magneto if I was having less than satisfactory performance out of the other ones.
Kay what is the CH T you mention , love watching and learning something about planes and flying
