      My wife is a beast of a negotiator - always gets crazy deals - but this is essentially what she does for new cars:
      Go into your local dealer and ask them for their best price and to include any extras they can. Tell them you will be shopping around.
      Then look on carsales in the new section for the car you want and contact the dealers that have them. Do the same thing and ask them for the best price and deal. Make sure you tell them if you have a better price already and they will usually match it or beat it.
      Call any other dealers you are interested in buying from and keep asking for a better price than you have. If the dealer is within a couple of hours of you they will often offer to deliver the car to you for free - especially if it's near the end of the month.
      Once you have the best deal, go back to your local dealer and give them one last chance to beat or match the offer. If they won't, then buy the car from the place with the best deal.
      And don't be afraid to tell them what you want, with what extras for what price - especially if you are actually at the dealership. They won't let you walk out the door without a sale if the offer is at all do-able for them.
      Did you have to pay any sort of fee to motorbuys.com.au?

      This was a year ago, but it was $20 to get them to put the call out to all of their dealers (or whatever they do) and give you the results. This was refunded in full however if you bought through one of their quotes.

    Growing up I always had cool sports cars or 4X4 vehicles. Then as I got older I decided to buy a practice car so I bought a forester. I drove it for about a year and loved it, my son went away to school to in Hawaii so I decided to ship it to him and it was there for 4 years and he loved it and put it through the ringer. We brought it back once he graduated and he’s driving that thing around. We’ve used that car for everything including off road camping, trips to Home Depot, trips to the snow and everything in between tween. When my second sone went off to school I didn’t have to think about what car I’d get him. The only negative thing I’d have to say is that you need to keep us with the maintenance and repairs before they get out of hand.

      supernova1976 you can add H&R 30mm lift springs. Then it becomes about 200mm ground clearance. That would be great mod. Then try with a AWD lock mode on CRV. I forgot the engineers forgot to add this option. Looking forward for their new AWD firmware update. More pressure from potential customers and existing users would become a reality.

      Christopher Burton Subaru have since then fixed that issue. They also found that people who were having issues with the oil consumption, actually were past due for their oil change. And something i found funny was even though some of the engines, mainly the older ones, were burning the oil faster than normal, they still had lower emissions then most cars. And thats not even including the partial zero emissions versions!

      +C Steele Sorry, how is Subaru's AWD not a real 4x4?

    • @Machineautomotive
      @Machineautomotive  8 років тому +20

      +hyankov Subaru's system is considered AWD with a center differential. A 4x4 system typically is part time and uses a locked center diff to distribute torque between the front and rear differentials.

    • @alterbr33d
      @alterbr33d 7 років тому +7

      In most countries anything AWD or 4WD is just called 4WD. So in Europe they would say the Ford Focus RS is a 4x4. In the US its different. A truck or jeep with a transfer case has 4wd. A car or car based SUV that has a center coupling is AWD. But even with AWD there are different types with drastically different results. Some can send most of the power to one wheel, while others if one wheel has zero friction, all the other wheels will loose nearly all power.

    • @Mp57navy
      @Mp57navy 6 років тому +3

      A "real" 4x4 has manual control over axles and center diff locks. Toyota Land Cruiser up to model 100, older Nissan Patrols count as 4x4. The others are AWD SUVs.

    Great video! I used to own a 2014 Forester XT Premium and it, plus a couple of Maxtrax, could take me to a lot of places actual 4WDs were venturing. Hills like this with no major ruts were easy for it. My only gripe was that there weren't any local (Aussie) options to modify the vehicle so as to drastically improve its ground clearance and its approach, breakover and departure angles. In the end I sold it to get an FJ Cruiser and modified the shite out of that instead. Selling the Subaru felt like I had lost a close friend though :(

The lack of a locking diff option and the availability of a bolt-on snorkel kit are some frustrations I encounter with the Forester. It prevents me from going on some trails north of my location. @ 0:13 The front right wheel went slightly in the air, the torque took the path of least resistance and went out that wheel, look at the back right, when that happened you could see it loose power, the Forester was only able to keep moving under momentum, not power. If it did that when moving slowly uphill, and if it was on an un-even rocky surface and one of the wheels went off the ground, it would not be able to move forward.

    HOlY shit! I bet a center diff 4runner would not be able to climb that! I would actually put money on it too. WOW subaru is 100 percent the king of traction. I am incredibly impressed! only thing that would test it would be ground clear and a vehicle with real lockers. thank you for posting.

      @@Machineautomotive haha! yeah i figured might be a brake ride and slide. not sure if newer foresters have a hill descent mode, but some kind of engine/intelligent braking would be great

      The 2013 has the 4EAT 4-speed. VDC was off, I always turn it off on the trails because it starts to cut power when I need it most.

    • @Machineautomotive
      @Machineautomotive  9 років тому +2

      Thanks! I had the VDC off to eliminate the throttle cut. The individual wheel brake still works though, you can't cut that.

    Didn't the clutch disc burn or smell?

    • @Machineautomotive
      @Machineautomotive  8 років тому +3

      It's an automatic my friend. The manual fozzies have trouble with this hill.

    • @pinoywheelgunner
      @pinoywheelgunner 8 років тому

      Machine I understand that even in an automatic transmission, there is a clutch disc that could burn if it slips too much. I learned this with my Mitsubishi Delica, I was climbing an uphill road, and I was trying to make it upshift. But it would not, instead, the clutch smelled burned. So I did not give it more gas

    • @Machineautomotive
      @Machineautomotive  8 років тому +2

      +pinoywheelgunner ok I understand now! The transfer clutch for the rear differential you mean? No it didn't smell when I got up to the top, there was a lot of wheel slip provided by the loose dirt.

    • @thundercamel
      @thundercamel 7 років тому +1

      Subaru doesn't use a clutch pack for the rear drive like most other manufacturers out to get the best MPG on paper. Subarus have a real center differential instead. That's what makes them good.

    • @AWDfreak
      @AWDfreak 6 років тому

      thundercamel - all automatic AWD Subaru models actually use a clutch pack. Active AWD uses a multi-plate transfer clutch pack that is electronically adjusted. VTD (variable torque distribution) takes it further by using a real center differential through the use of a planetary gearset. DCCD takes the VTD system even further by allowing manual adjustability of lockup combined with a viscous coupling center differential (made before model year 2018) much like the Continuous AWD on manual transmission AWD Subaru vehicles. The updated DCCD on MY2018 and newer WRX STI models now only uses the planetary gearset combined with the manually-adjustable multi-plate transfer clutch pack.

  • @MountainValleyRealEstate
    @MountainValleyRealEstate 4 роки тому

    I had the exact same Forester xt only in white! As long as you don't completely stop on a hill with a tire off the ground, it will go anywhere. Must turn off traction control to go up hills like this, computer needs to see wheel slip to engage wheel braking. 09 to 13 is the best due to the 4eat transmission and wheel braking electronics. The newer cvt's limit power up steep hills to save the cvt from over heating.
