- Kerr vs. Ingebrigtsen Highlights Historically Deep Field
There’s a reason the meet organizers saved the Bowerman Mile for last this year. We’ve already given some stats on how deep this race will be, like how the average PB of the field is 3:48.57 and the race will feature five global 1500m champions. However, everyone who has paid a sliver of attention to global distance running over the last year knows that all eyes in this race will be on just two men: Jakob Ingebrigtsen, winner of the last three Bowerman Mile titles, and Josh Kerr, last year's 1500m World champion over Ingebrigtsen.
Ingebrigtsen has always been incredibly outspoken in the media (and 98 times out of 100 he’s backed it up), but since Kerr defeated him in the 1500m final in Budapest both men have taken the media jabs to another level. When you have two of the most talented runners in history with very little hesitancy to speak their mind on each other, it fosters an incredibly intriguing beef that’s brought middle-distance running more attention than it’s had in a long time..
Saturday’s race will be the first matchup between these two since the final in Budapest. In the nine months since that race, Ingebrigtsen has set the world record in the 2000m and ran the third-fastest times ever in both the mile and the 3000m at last year’s Prefontaine Classic. Kerr, meanwhile, tore up the track this indoor season, obliterating the world best in the indoor two mile and becoming World Indoor champion over 3000m.
Ingebrigtsen has yet to race in 2024 after dealing with an Achilles injury throughout the indoor season - good thing he chose such a nice, quaint, low-stakes race for his opener!

How does the running media not bring better questions than this. Come on man!
Bad promotion every press in track
It's hard to think of good questions. Why dont you suggest one?
@@valleyshrew 1. Jakob - what did your rehab look like? What were challenges you faced? How did you adjust your training? 2. Josh - What does your diet look like now - you've mentioned you have a staff behind you, a personal chef, etc? What changed and what changes did you notice? 3. Yared - what is training under Ritzenhein like? (He mentions this is a crucial time for USA runners because the Pre is a big race then there is the Trials.) Perfect opportunity to ask: how does OAC adjust their training to these changes in schedule? What do the changes in training look like?
It's not hard to think of good questions if you actually follow the sport and do your job. Not ask some bullshit like Pokemon.
@@MZ123Z Good questions, but I think they might require long answers, and are better suited to the mini-doc videos they've done recently, or podcasts, not a live multi-athlete press conference.
Because the journalists are phenomenally lazy.
Chat GPT could come up with better questions 😂
Yared answered the Pokémon question perfectly, that’s so accurate 😂
yes Spot on!
Josh puts out the fire!
Josh fits Squirtle perfectly, the whole Squirtle squad in the anime wore sunglasses and Josh rocks the Oakleys every race
@@willwall9216 haha yeah!
I'm salivating, waiting for this race. Having the top three milers meeting just a few months before the Olympics is a real treat.
Set The Goose loose!!!
Yes sir.
they are never going to let ingebrigsten live that pace setter line down
So Britishhh ssht, looking at self and ruining all else. That's why the post office and blood scandal are only a few of the big issues coming out about you guys Josh lol 😂
The “relationship” questions are unbelievably corny
Questioning Jonathan Gault, the greatest track and field journalist of our time, is unbelievably corny
@@scottmacdonald3794 💀💀💀
😂
Its track what did you expect? Cornballs everywhere
Great vid. Crazy so much talent in one room
The Animosity between JI and Kerr is so thick you can cut it! Lol. I am living for the tension! Lol
Thanks gentlemen! Keep growing the sport. Fuel for all of us even slow AF older dudes like me.
why'd they ask yared all the goofy questions💀
Cuz he's goofy AF?
What an INterview! the vibes for tomorrow is so hot
This is exactly what we needed
description is wild
yea this video description is honestly idiotic lmao. let the video itself do the talking for viewers. thats all we need. stop writing such silliness for the description..dumb

Los mejores tiempos en distancia en un lugar
jakob's face at the pokemon question 🤦♂
did you see the look on kerr’s face when nuguse said he’s squirtle😂
He looked so happy
All we needed was a FACE-OFF between Jakob and Josh!😢
Good interview. Comments about pacing were odd!
Saludos desde mexico 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️
hello from London
Jakob coming out and setting expectations 👀 not the typical braggadocios attitude
I’m pretty sure it’s because he’s coming back from an injury and this is his season opener
Kerr is keeping him humble
@@copper5r660 we’ll see
@@copper5r660 pff - won a race where Jakob was sick - yeah he keeps him humble
@@jkdure we’ll see
Pay attention: Josh never looked at Inga directly. This is going to be fire! Good luck to the three of them. Let the best be the winner
It's good see the rivalry between Josh and Jakob. It can only be good for both to push each other. A bit like yesteryear between Coe and Ovett.
Love how they separate them from each other to avoid a physical fight
Those questions kind of sucked lol. I get they probably couldn’t exactly use the quotes each other was saying towards one another but come on. They basically used Yared as a scapegoat for questions and they weren’t even good ones
For real
yeah the questions are forced
Bro most of those quotes are out of context... it's just like fox and CNN. The track media uses Jakob's language barrier a lot. It's more of a cultural thing, yes he speaks perfect English, but many Europeans speak very bluntly and it's not meant to be rude at all. The media makes more of it than what it really is.
Let’s go Josh 🎉
The trash talk hype is being glazed so much. Everyone respects each other, no bad blood. If they are trying to do it for our entertainment, then they really need to get better at it lol
Jakob was the least likely to look over at the other two. Not sure he was avoiding eye contact but he felt the least comfortable in how he answers questions (to be fair English is not his first language).
Jakob had no idea what yared was talking about with the Pokémon
its time. lets go Yared
Best question was the pokemon question wild haha
Kerr looks like one of the Geeks at Best Buy on a Tuesday morning
Not a single mention for Holland?? Squad looks fantastic .. especially the D. And they also have pedigree ... They may not be your favorites, but not a single mention in a 48 minute POD??
Kerr fast becoming the Goat
How the hell am I supposed to sleep tonight...!?
Facts...lol
Love Yared
Etiopian
Josh got me the most excited.
Yared was the most charming.
Jakob seemed the most cautious.
No
YES.
Surprised the "championship only" runner came to this race really...
Bro did someone laugh when Jakob said he was having a daughter?? 😹
I think Josh wanted to be Charmander 😂
Yah!
This sport has so bad promotion in the case of press conferences. They could hype this race so much with their two beef. Clearly a missed opportunity to expand the sport😒😒
Honest question - what is going on with Mr Kerr's knees, especially his left (on the right hand side from our view) there's a really pronounced bump under the cap. Is that simply low body fat over his bone structure being a bit more pronounced there, or something else?
Some people have an extra bump sighly below the knee cap, me included. Apparently it may stem from Schlatter disease or something
Osgood schlatters. It's basically to do with muscle and bone growth imbalance. Causes knee pain in youth but it's outgrown. I have it in my right knee
imagine if someone not in these 3 wins😂😂
Good point.
Big three? Nah it’s just BIG 🪿!!
This is like a Jake Paul press conference
1st ) Kerr 2nd) Wightman 3rd) Ingebrigtsen
This field is stacked. I reckon at least one of them won’t podium
Nuguse 😁🦵
😂😂😂😂
@@stuarthys9879good guess😅
I know goose is American and all, but wouldn’t it have made far more sense to have Wightman or at least have added Wightman to the press conference given the fact he was the 2022 world champion and pretty much the only thing that kept him away from the podium last year was a season ending injury? Got nothing against Neguse, but I just feel like they wasted an opportunity to put the more accomplished athletes in the Bowerman mile race into the conference like Jake, Timothy, Girma etc
3:43 💀
He’s American and ran 3:43 last year. That is reason enough
Respectfully disagree. The number three miler of all time is worthy of this spot, especially since he was second in the event last year.
what exactly has girma done as far as the 1500 and mile? yes he is the steeplechase world record holder but this race isn’t where he specializes in. also cheruiyot isn’t even competing in this race. nuguse also ran a 3:43 last year. a time that has not been ran since the world record putting him at #4 all time
I do see where you come from with wightman tho. it wouldn’t have hurt to add him in. without having to take nuguse out because he deserves to be there as well but I do think having the past 2 world champs and the olympic champ would have been nice
What is it with Americans and the word "like" like.
Like, what's, like, the problem?
If you follow the Olympics ? 😂
2:07 early excuses
He has been injuried during winter - ofcourse that will impact this race since he is not fully fit yet.
But then you could be happy - now kerr could win and start his big mouth again.
WATCH OUT Hobbs Kessler
He's a nobody.
Could be the dangerman
@@LynnEdwards-sl7jda nobody with a 3:48 indoor mile and a very recent 1:45 800. Sounds like a ridiculous comment to me
as an american who loves to see my country succeed there is no chance he wins
@@benanastasoff8980 Bro LOL. He didn't even finish the race. This guy is an absolute fraud .
dahmer glasses😂😂😂😂
Bro can do better that Tyler swift 🤣
What a boring and predictable interview! Please, bring someone in that can ask questions on material we don’t know or can’t suspect. Also someone that ignites the rivalry between Inga and Josh.
Kerr makes me cringe
Jakob upset that he never gets asked Pokemon questions
imagine just seeing jakob going on a 5 minute rant about which pokemon is who and why😂
Anyone else think Kerr looks like Jeffrey Dahmer?
Hes Ethiopian btw 😅
Track journalists suck lol. They ask questions that will generate predictable answers.
Jakob is already setting up an excuse. Sounds a lot like the trump campaign.
Lol. Spoken like a true deranged wokester
🤡
So if he doesn't win the mile, he's gonna take the result to court?
How is he setting up an excuse?
@@joshuaolayanju9658 Sounds to me like he is implying that he is not 100%. watch his opening remarks.
