Love the ending bit about focusing on water chemistry, great job chris you cleaned that tank extremely well!

I would assume there’s no nitrates becuase the hair algae has consumed them all no? My suggestion is to figure out the hair algae first, then the nitrates will fall into place. Good luck guys!

Agreed but I still think we will
Need to add nitrates at least for a bit. I’d like to see them around 3ish.

That and unless he shut some pumps off before recording, way more flow

Clean those wavemakers to help bring back the flow to what it should be. That would help a bit. They look pretty crusty.

This was a preliminary visit but I gave instructions to owner to soak one power head at a time in RO vinegar solution. After the cleaning there was so much algae still floating the power heads just soak it right up. Cant wait to do a update video.

Nice video! Wow that tank had it bad! I'm struggling with cyano as well. My tank is always to sterile it seems. I have 0 nitrate en 0 phosphate. Got rid of most of the cyano today and I started dosing phosphate and feeding more. I do have a very small amount of fish which could be a reason that there is not enough nutrients in my tank. Get some more fish might be the best solution... I subbed btw 👍😀

Looks so much better, well done.
I’m having same well similar issues with my tank since removing my fish, I went to a local LFS to get some nitrate up as my hammer is sulking/ retracting & my nitrates are measuring 0 on my salifert kit and my phosphate is reading 0 also, the LFS recommend I dose bacteria as my nutrients will be high cause if the hair algae issue & that’s consuming / masking the 0 nutrients…. What would you suggest please ? I’ve been debating using Flux RX or adding loads of snails, I’m not sure I want an urchin, fish will be back in the tank around End of November all being well 🤞🏼🙏🏼

Reef flux works well but takes time up to 2 weeks. That will take care of your hair algae issue but then make sure to do weekly water changes. Your aim should be 2-5 nitrate and .04 phosphate. That seems to be a pretty sweet spot for most corals. Make sure to keep up with your water test also.

Might not be able to tell in the video but the tank has significant flow. The problem seems to be over feeding/feeding the wrong foods and water chemistry issues resulting from that.

I had a bad case of Cyano myself a month ago in my 40 Bowed front tank. I did water changes 3 times a week of 25%. Used a small clear hose to suck it out also. But it was so discouraging I caved and did Chemiclean. And it’s been about a month I now have brownish algae growing on sand. But my tank also is 0 Nitrates, 0 Nitrites, 0 Ammonia, PH 8.0, Salinity 1.026. It’s a 9 month old tank. Does anyone have any ideas in what I could do to solve the issue?

If your tank has 0 no3 the. I’d definitely start dosing nitrate. We noticed no3 around 2-5 seems to be perfect. I’d only feed frozen food as well.

@@aquariumservicetech2891 may I ask what product I should use for dosing, and how often I should do it? I really appreciate your knowledge here. I was sadly getting ready to give up. Me screwing around in the tank constantly is also stressing the hell outta my Lieutenant Tang. His face area has gone whitish. He’s still swimming all around the tank and eating like a champ still. By the way I am subbing right now as I enjoy your channel. Thank you for any help you can do for me

@@Scott-cy6zv brightwell neo nitrate. The directions are on the bottle and shoot for 4 over a period of time. Go slow! do 10 percent water changes every week and make sure the Rodi water you are using is 0 tds. Stay away from dry foods only try to feed frozen for now.
