Taking small and sensitive corals out to a frag tank before treating is a good idea. Never lost one for a lights out period.

Blue - green cyno is in freshwater. In saltwater it’s mostly red colored

You met chuck in a truck lol. Another guy in Ohio that sales corals built a huge building and he had issues with the AC/heat air was extremely loud. I pointed out on his video that the return grill was to small which caused the noise. Also pointed out how shoddy the hvac work was, exposed flex coming out of the ceiling to the outside wall for the erv (energy recovery ventilator). He defended them and then had to drop $1000 more of air baffles. Sorry I missed this stream.

It for sur a good time to clean your skimmer completely during those 3 days!

Sadly, the guy sent you labor that were not drywall peeps. The other concern is the screw depth looks to deep and becomes ineffective of holding the drywall up. There is a drill bit that will not let you overdrive the screw. Shouldn’t tear through the paper. They didn’t place screws spaced correctly. There is a formula, every (x) inches, different for wall vs ceiling that should be followed. Your intuition was right.

Doing this right now. One question, my mixing station is two 65g water tanks. My saltwater one has a little dark brown film on the pump and a little floating around in the tank. I'm assuming this is cyano in my mixing bin. No lights in it so not sure. Is this normal in a mixing bin and if not, should I treat the mixing bin? And if so, does this mean treat it and then throw all the water away and refill with new stuff? Thanks man.

    • @melevsreef
      @melevsreef  2 роки тому

No, you are not growing cyano in new saltwater. But it is time to clean everything with vinegar and water as soon as it’s empty.

@@bower230 Still needs to be cleaned, and determine how a contaminant got in there to cause the brown stuff you mentioned. IF you keep it sealed, it should stay clean.

You need to lower you expectations when hiring anyone to do any work regardless of where or what it is/on. Everyone does shit work unless you do it yourself, that's the unfortunate truth. Sorry you had to deal with all that BS lol. You should try having a house built, it's insane some of the stuff that is overlooked & screwed up.

If the sump gets oxygen from the skimmer, then the display will as well. They’re connected. That would be like saying “if you dose into your sump, the display won’t get anything”.

Wow this story makes me feel better about a rough experience I had with a flooring crew and attic insulation replacement. Those were just materials issues or lack of smooth communication & expectations. Your crew was waaaaay unqualified it sounds like :(

I've never liked the idea of feeding fish so sparingly. I'm not sure where I heard it from but when I was a child, probably around 5 or 6, I remember being told that you should skip feeding a fishtank one day every week because it improves their digestive health. Of course I was only keeping freshwater in those days and I never believed it was true but I've always wondered if maybe that's partly why so many people feed so sparingly

Hi Marc, can't you just do this yourself?
In the Netherlands they generally use 2'x6,2/3'x1/4'' (60x200cm) sheets.
And the wood construction is made so that at every seam of the long side of the sheets there is a 1x2'' and one in between.
So there is basicly a 1x2 every feet on the long side.
And the sides of the sheet rock needs to be rounded if you want to be able to plaster it properly with the plaster band over the seams.
The wood construction is the hard part to make.
Placing the sheet rock should be the easy part..
For the walls I would use 1,2/3''x2,4/5'' wood vertically every 2 feet and first put a layer of 1/3'' osb wood over it and than the sheet rock with the seems 1 feet out of line compared to the osb.
Im just an electrician so Im no expert.. But I've seen people make this a 1000 times and this is how they do it.
Also +1 on cyano rx, used it 3 times and 3 times it was gone with no ill effects.
    Happy reefing!

I had a similar issue. I was charged ridiculous amounts for easy labor and maybe $200 in materials cost. I now refuse to work with any professionals who can't give me an itemized tally of all materials as well as their hourly labor cost. I will pay for expertise but if you're going to charge me $4,000 for $200 in materials and 8 hours of work, no freaking way.
My suggestion is to plaster every review site with those photos and an honest review.
Also, sheetrock is heavy. Leaving someone to move sheetrock all by themselves (without saying I quit) is an especially d*ck move.

Maybe because labor is in such high demand they can be picky about how hard their jobs are

Have brown/red type algae with some strings floating around on rocks. My levels are nitrites are 0 and nitrates are 0 and ammonia are 0 and PH is 7.8-8.0. And salinity is 1.024. I was getting ready to do chemiclean. But was told not too because it would kill all my beneficial bacteria. I’ve become worried as I had a young captive bred watchman goby died. But my 2 small clown fish and small royal gramma are doing well and eating well also. So should I chemiclean or dose microbacter 7? I appreciate anyone help please. My tank is 3.5 months and this is my first saltwater tank. This has made me doubt everything. I just subbed also. Great content bud!

Another great livestream. I get a tiny bit of cyano particularly in the front left corner a day or two after I feed a heavy amount of cyclops for the corals (and I do feed aminos etc almost every day). I just siphon it out and my NO3/PO4 is almost always

You really need to re think what your saying about the air and a skimmer running without the cup. The bubbles inside the tank will not add any more oxygen then the bubbling over. The air bubbles contact with the water is where the oxygen saturation occurs. The fish cannot breath air bubbles.
Now a skimmer super saturates the water in an enclosed chamber vs an air stone in your display where the bubbles are able to raise to the surface much faster.

Phosphate and nitrate imbalances don't cause cyanobacteria as far as I know. They cause dinoflagellates though. This was about getting rid of cyanobacteria in a few days, rather than putting up with them for months for no good reason.

@@melevsreef An imbalance in the redfield ratio can cause cyano. A bottoming out in nutrients can cause dinos.
