  • Today we are looking at the unlikely story of the MISC Prospector, the ship that started as an experimental freelancer conversion by the infamous Project Cold Boot and thanks to a lucky discovery became the poster child of freelance mining operations of the universe of Star Citizen.

Can I just say for one second here that Astro Historian has come a long way since the early days. Good job with the voice acting. Not overdone, yet not bland. I think it strikes a nice balance, and THAT is ART.

    Awesome Story.
Essentially, the Prospector did for Mining what the Vulture did for Salvage.

I'm about to sign up for Star citizen. Mainly due to your videos. I'd love to get your referral number! Let me know!!

Was watching some videos of you 3 years ago and just got this in my recommended. Great work on the video! :)

Like the prospector itself you are a master at breaking things down into easier to consume chunks. Great video as always bud.
I wonder if we will ever see the fire suppressing\fire truck variant of the Freelancer, once water physics make their way into the game. Or the Data runner variant. They seem like they would be easy low hanging fruit for a ship to sell with minimal effort.

Suggestion: Polaris video (idk if their's that much lore around it, but if there is, it would be amazing to see)

Hey I love your content and know you're not a physicist, but I think you are a good person to ask. I have questions about quantum travel and jump points in SC to see if they talk in lore about a few problems.
Preface this by the fact that I know it is a game, and an IP like star wars still hasn't answered any of these questions, but they still bug me and I suspect the lore nerds at CIG have at least thought about it.
    A) How do they avoid time dilation in quantum travel?
    B) How do they avoid civilian vessels from just slamming into planets at a significant fraction of the speed of light and just ending whole planets instantly?
C1) Why are jump points gravitationally bound to their stars?
C2) How do they explain that all jump points just go to another gravity well ie star system rather than terminating in interstellar void, which based on pure statistics would be vastly more likely? Not only that, but they seem to attach relatively close star systems rather than random ones.
C1 and C2 would be related if something about gravity wells was necessary for a jump point to form, ie gravity extending into extra-spatial dimensions that would make gravity wells attract each other in extradimensional space, hence jump points being close to stellar bodies and staying close to them over time at least 4 dimensionally. Coincidentally, there are models in physics that explain the weakness of gravitational force as we perceive it in 3d space as a lot of that force being extended out into extra spatial dimensions.
Questions A and B might be answered via the quantum bubble, preventing interaction with physical objects in space, and also if in the SC universe gravity extends extra-dimensionally, sufficiently massive objects (like a planet) might prevent you from warping through them but smaller objects like stations, ships, asteroids, and debris would be passed through without even being noticed which would reflect what we currently see in game (not intended I am sure, but fair as a fictional description of occurrences in game). Still leaves a problem of you actually moving through space at speeds that, while still only 30% of light speed, could over enough time lead to significant time travel, especially at jump points?

I did a video on some of this but I'll do my best to answer
      A) It's not FTL, it's warp. So it literally bends space in front of it and travels over that space then unbends that space when its done. Thus it doesn't go the actual fractions of the speed of light, it goes the equivalent of that speed because of the warping effect on space.
      B) QT drives have an emergency system built in that cuts off if it senses something with mass on it's path. Thus it will collapse the warp bubble and unbend the space in front. That's kind of how QT Enforcement works, it prevents ships with a bubble from getting too close, and thus collapsing the field that keeps the ship in warp. My guess as to how you don't just slam into a planet is because a planet has a much higher mass than the QT Drive and thus the drive can't bend a planet with its quantanium like it can 'empty' space.
C1) They haven't told us if JPs are fixed or orbit so we don't know a lot about them other than they are wormholes through interspace. If I would venture to guess why JPs mostly only show up in star systems is still being studied in the verse.
C2) There are a few JPs that do end in basically blank space. Min for instance just has a planet with no star. There is also JPs around Pulsars and Blackholes and we know they form and collapse naturally as well.

Easily the most practical mining ship ever made 🙂
