that transition from the thumbnail image into the video was really nice, idk why that stood out to me but it was just very satisfying to click into your video and have that transition.
I often feel like people don't notice a lot of little details I put into my videos, but thank you for your comment. Always glad when people appreciate the little things! ☺
I just bought a USB C trackpad yesterday and love it so far. Can’t wait to use it more. Btw, I’d recommend using a fill light to help fill in some of those shadows on the dark side of your face. It shouldn’t be as bright as your key light, as you still want some shadow and definition. Also, a back light (not background light) will help separate you better from your dark background since you wear dark color clothes and have a darker skin complexion. Hopefully that helps some. Not to be an ass.
Thanks for your feedback. Yeah each video so far has been a bit of an experiment as I've been trying different things (in this one I tried shooting against green screen, but didn't love the results, so I've stopped doing that for now). I do use a soft box as my key light, but its remote recently stopped working, so I can no longer adjust the temperature and intensity with it, plus I haven't done too much with fill lights and back lights as I was really more interested in getting more videos out (focusing on the content) rather than spending time/money on perfecting my lighting/setup. But now that my channel is finally starting to get some serious views, I'll definitely be experimenting with more robust lighting setups, etc. and will probably buy a new soft box soon (perhaps Black Friday sales). But yeah, congrats on your new trackpad purchase. If you're fairly new to trackpads (like me), I think you'll find how you use it will continually evolve -- how I'm using mine has already evolved since when I made this video, so I'll probably do a part two of this video within the next couple months. 🤓
Really? I don't see anything about gestures under Mouse settings in System Settings. (I don't use a Magic Mouse, but if I remember correctly, gestures ARE possible with that.)
Opera, the browser introduced mouse gestures maybe 20 years back. They work with any mouse. One of the main things I’ve really missed using since going Mac and Chrome working better on OSX.
I find it a lot easier to turn on tap and hold via three fingers and save the virtual desktop gestures for 4 fingers. Once you've got 3 finger tap to just drag windows, or highlight text, you won't go back. I don't think I've ever used the 3 finger tap dictionary feature, specially when pretty much every person always has a browser open anyway, so I don't miss that at all and I don't think you would either! I appreciate that all these actions are cool, but I feel like you could have done everything a lot better and more accurately with a dedicated macro pad, streamdeck, or simply with keyboard shortcuts. That way you have the trackpad for actual trackpad stuff, and you don't have to worry about accidentally sending your windows to another monitor with a rogue touch...
Interesting points. This was literally my first stab with the Trackpad (as well as combining with BTT). Basically I got super excited about all the *potential*. I'm sure how I use the Trackpad+BTT will evolve over time, as I get more comfortable with using gestures. There will certainly be a sequel to this video in a few months. 🤓
Ok for quick lookup rhe fastest way i think is setting it with pressure, one finger deep press. You can actually play around eith the pressure on better touch tool
If is just tapping, then keyboard shortcuts are the way. In windows (powertoys) and most likely linux, you can manage different zones and assign shortcuts for that. Even the basics are way more convinients.
I do use a lot of keyboard shortcuts, as well as my Streamdeck. Honestly as a lifelong mouse+keyboard user I'm relatively new to the trackpad experience, so I've just been getting my feet wet with 1 and 2 finger taps and swipes, but I'm sure eventually I'll make even better use of the trackpad with more advanced gestures. The possibilities are endless (especially paired with BTT)
Oh and I've heard good things about powertoys. I haven't used a Windows machine in decades, but I'm actually considering getting one in the near future (mostly for GPU/AI capabilities).
I use keyboard shortcuts all the time for moving and resizing windows thanks to Magnet. However some of those single taps alternatives demoed in video are way easier and faster.
@@SRG-Learn except I do not because hands are on trackpad or it's as close as my keys are. A single one finger tap is always easier than a two handed three or four key combination,
at so many points in this video you are keeping a window as a small section of the screen as opposed to the full screen. I'm sure it looks good on your desktop monitor but a lot of people are viewing views on smaller screens, great video but highly recommending full screening and even zooming into windows and specific areas of the UI in the future.
I switched my mouse for a trackpad a couple years ago and could never go back. The only thing I miss is that on mine there's no real way to hold right click (which is useful in some games), but I just set numpad enter to do that in the apps I need and it usually works fine
Yeah I've found that each input device (whether mouse or trackpad or something else) has its own various pros and cons -- really it's just a matter of each person figuring out what works best for you. I'm just SO used to using my mouse for decades, I'm still using my trackpad as a supplementary tool, but I can definitely see using the trackpad more and more as I get more used to it. Who knows, perhaps I'll fully switch to trackpad some day, but for the time being I'm enjoying using both.
it wasn't even a debate in picking up the magic trackpad when moving onto a desktop style mac ..cannot work or function without my swiping and gestures ..a mouse could only top this if i were to game a little
I look at it as apples vs oranges. Some people (myself included) are just super comfy with using a mouse, but each input device type has its various strengths & weaknesses. No right or wrong answer, to each their own 🙂 *I do foresee using the Trackpad more and more though, especially as I get more experienced with advanced gestures.
That's an interesting idea. I'm okay with keeping mine separate though, as I don't always need/use the trackpad. Sometimes I keep a bowl of cereal to the left of my keyboard. 😋
It’s kind of interesting that you are using trackpad and mouse at the same time. Feels like waste of time since the trackpad is so much more effective than the mouse 😅 What’s the difference for you between using one and the other? Any specific use cases? (Except of games)
Well I've been using a mouse for like 30 years now, so... I'm just super comfortable and quick with it. The level of precision I get with it while doing mostly graphic work, well... the Trackpad just isn't there for me (yet). I'm sure I'll get more comfortable with the Trackpad the more I use it (as well as trying more complex gestures), but for the time being, I'm enjoying using both together.
@@jaykasloI’ve pretty much given up on my (very expensive) ergonomic mouse, because the trackpad on the Mac laptops is so very good. Some of the things you turned off, are what I consider essentials, heck, they are basic functions, which will make using the trackpad harder and impossible to use on its own. Switching between apps is so quick with Cmd+Tab and Cmd+a to switch between windows. So use single tap as normal click and two finger click as right click.
Nice, useful video. Thank you! Just gotta say I think you gotta work on your color grading here. It doesn't really complement your skin color. Gives you some kind of ashy color that isn't too pleasant just imho. 🙇🏻♂️
Thanks, yeah each video so far has been experimental. I actually shot this one on green screen as I wanted a pure white backdrop (a la Apple), but the keying was kinda wonky so at the last minute I shifted to this greyer look. I know the color may be off a bit but I guarantee you this was better than seeing my hair glitch and flicker for the whole video. 😝
Green screens need very careful lighting and separation from subject. You"re probably better off with a set/real room with well lit nice stuff behind you, rather than a blank background. Watch the recent MBKHD video on how his videos get put together for an insightful look at how he does it, which definitely helped him get to 10+million viewers.
Luckily Elgato recently updated their teleprompter software so that it will follow my speech rate. So I'm speaking at a quicker / more natural pace in my last couple videos. But for my earlier/slower spoken vids, good thing there's 2x speed! 😅

Thanks man. By better titles you mean actually adding in some chapter titles, etc. or something else? Just realized that I didn't add chapter titles in this video, which is strange, cuz I usually do that.
Funnily enough, this arrangement was symmetric (horizontal Apple Studio Display flanked by 2 vertical Dell monitors). But actually, this past week I rotated the right-side Dell to be horizontal... so it's no longer symmetric now, but this new setup feels WAY better (especially when working in AE & Premiere). Doesn't look as pretty, but... form over function 🤓
Yeah I certainly wouldn't switch to Trackpad exclusively. But I love the combo of mouse + trackpad, plus using Apple Pencil on my iPad. I do periodically get achey fingers, especially when doing the same repeated task way too much. Good to mix things up
If you mean Figma is better than Freeform, I agree. Freeform is still pretty frustrating, but it’s free and gets the job done for me. At least having the Trackpad to navigate around the canvas makes it usable.
@@jaykaslo i actually don't like the new figma updates, but freeform i wanted to like it just lacks so much basic quality of life stuff and is locked to Apple Ecosystem
