@John Mateus Thank you for proving my point. It’s not like that group was controversial for controversy’s sake. It’s just a rare moment where a mix of guys with fierce determination met PLUS they considered winning the ultimate goal. Yes we talk about all the great teams of that era, but The Pistons were pretty special.

@@mauricedavis1740 Indeed. People love to say someone like LeBron wouldn't have lasted back then. Do they see how LeBron is built? But even then that's irrelevant because most of today's players could dominate previous generations by just hitting shots from the outside, and I'm sure many players from previous generations would've practiced more outside shots if brought into this era.
Both times when the Pistons knocked the Bulls out of the playoffs in 89 and 90, MJ shook hands with every Pistons player. He then stayed on the court and called them the better team in an interview. What a whiner he was.
The only sad thing with Bill is that almost every one remembers him as a trouble maker, and not as a very good center that was a top rebounder and a good shooter.
Pistons crashed the glamour party of Bird’s Celtics, Magic’s Lakers, and MJ’s Bulls. Bill did what he had to do, wasn’t pretty, but he got the job done. 🏆 🏆
Yeah, if it was up to the NBA the '88 Finals would've been a Magic vs Bird rematch, and '89 through '92 would've been four straight years of alternating Jordan vs Magic and Jordan vs Drexler matchups.
Between game 3 and 4, Phil Jackson, Micheal Jordan, and Scottie Pippen, all sat there in the Palace, and just TRASHED, the Pistons, what they had done, and earned, the fans of team, the City of Detroit, in an all day media binge. Detroit's media, was shocked, and put it on the 5:30, 6, and 11 news shows. I remember when I saw them, I taped them, and have not seen them since, but THEY PISSED ME OFF! And when the Bad Boys snubbed the Bulls, exactly like the CELTICS DID TO THEM in 88, I SAW NOTHING WRONG WITH IT! In fact, most Detroiters to this day, WOULD WALK OFF THE COURT WITHOUT SHAKING THOSE CLASSLESS WINNERS, hands! And later in 2004, PHIL JACKSON, wrote a book about that season, and NEVER GAVE THE 2004 PISTONS any credit, mentioned the team or city's name, and bitched about everything! But in the end, as the TRUTH has gotten out about LORD JORDAN and the Jordanaires, Espn has run to DEFEND THEM with this 6 part mini series, just like NBC did back in 91 and for decades! Funny, they called the BAD BOYS, thugs, and punks, and said they were bad men, who were bad for the game! Well, WHY IS EVERYBODY INTERVIEWING THEM NOW? As time has shown, they CALLED US THE BAD BOYS, but we were really GREAT MEN! And the Bulls grew into PETTY, BITTER, NAME CALLING, SELFISH OLD MEN, who when the light is shown on them, NOBODY REALLY LIKES! So they shall be known as the BITTER BOYZ! BULLS, WE'RE STILL IN YOUR HEADS, 30 YEARS LATER, IT'S JUST A GAME, LET IT GO! BAD BOYS FOREVER!
They didn't get old! They got swept! Pistons ages when the Bulls beat them in 1991 were Salley 26, Dumars 27, Thomas 29, Rodman 29, Aquire 31, Laimbeer 33, Vinnie Johnson 34. When the Bulls won in 1998 there ages were Longley 29, Kukoc 29, Pippen 32, Harper 32, Jordan 34 and Rodman 36.
Guards don't last as long as wings .. and 5 straight ECF 3Finals 2Ships take a lot out of you ... they were old as far as basketball standards go and going far.
@@AnanseSavage Jordan and Pippen went to 6 Finals in 8 years. Jordan had the Olympics in 92 and Pippen had the Olympics in 92 and 96. Guards will age faster but not enough to make up the gap of Isiah's 29 to Jordan's 34 years of age or Dumars 27 to Pippens 34 years of age.
The Jazz were Stockton 36, Hornacek 35, Malone 34, Carr 38, Morris 31, Foster 30, Russell 28. The Jazz were older so what's your point about that 98 Bulls age? The Pistons in 91 have that fatigue factor and they have there own locker room issues in that 91 season according to their own espn documentary. The Bulls got better in 91 but I believe it could have been a better series (4-2 Bulls) if not for fatigue and there own issues.
@@dobz746 The Bulls swept the Magic in the 96 ECF. They had Penny 24, Shaq 23, Grant 30, Anderson 28 and Scott 27. They also swept Heat in 97 and swept the Wizards in 98. All three teams star players were much younger but you don't see MJ and Scottie saying they lost cause they took care of business. Pippen and Jordan had gone to 5 NBA Finals in 7 years going into the 1998 playoffs. Also if the Pistons were tired from their run back in 1991 then Rodman was definetly long in the tooth by the time 1998 rolled around. The 91 Bulls swept the Knicks 3-0, beat Philly 4-1, swept the Pistons 4-0 and beat the Lakers 4-1 in the Finals. They weren't even tested as they only lost two games in that playoff run. From an athletic standpoint Pippen and Jordan were in their prime and the role players had found their confidence. The Pistons had no chance against them because prime Jordan and Pippen with a supporting cast is so much better than Prime Thomas and Dumars (or whoever you want to put as their number 2) with their supporting cast it's not even funny.

I agree 100% with Laimbeer. Jordans bulls were a bunch of feminine little girls crying that the Pistons were too physical with them!! If you're going to cry like a whiner, you are NOT worthy of respect or a handshake!! Like Bill says, sure, they finally beat them because they got old,but because they cried and complained like little girls about the physicality of the game, the pistons were 100% correct in refusing to shake hands with jordans bulls. Deal with My opinions.
On court Laimbeer was the dirtiest player I've ever seen and the badest of the bad boys by far. He was eager to take cheap shots any time the refs weren't looking. The media around the league, with justification, disliked his thugish play. The media used the Hall of Fame's character clause, which makes integrity, sportsmanship and character qualifications a voting consideration, to keep Laimbeer out of the HOF. On his stats and accomplishments alone, he would be in the HOF.
And that is what tainted Detroit's legacy. The Pistons walked off early and basically said "we give up, we'll never be able to compete against this team again", instead of regrouping and stepping up, they folded.
That and the fact they were ungracious winners and sore losers. Lambeer was blackballed out of the league and the fact that he never got a head coaching job eats at him every day. He is a bitter old man. Get off my lawn
Lmao “bad boy” Bill Laimbeer...he’s such a bad boy that MJ calling them bad champions and bad people set them off? He obviously cares what everyone says About them otherwise he wouldn’t have gotten pissy and left prematurely
Mitchell Brock he implied that claimed to not care about other players hating him, obviously he lied otherwise he wouldn’t whine on national media about it
Other than my Rockets winning 2 NBA Championships, the most memorable NBA Finals were the 89' and 90' Detroit Piston Bad Boys. I hated the Boston Celtics back in those days, but today I have to admire how good that mid 80's team was. They'll never be another Larry Bird.
I hate how fans discredit the Pistons after the last dance documentary but here's the thing with them getting "old" Key role players of the Pistons were in their mid-thirties. Vinnie Johnson, Laimbeer, Edwards, even Aguirre, they even lost Mahorn to an expansion draft in 1989. The exhaustion of playing three straight finals also caught up with them (even to add their 1987 run to the ECF when they lost to Boston in 7). Try to watch the Bad Boys documentary and they really folded after that 91 season because of age and injuries. Rodman, Isiah, and Dumars were all in their primes in 1991 but they never had the supporting cast they once had and they never stood a chance against the Bulls.
They were in the conference finals for 6 plus years went to the finals 3 str8 years battling out with Boston and the Lakers. Just like GS they eventually lost due to mileage (long playoff runs and injuries). The Pistons own the Celtics, Lakers and Bulls in the late 80's MJ and nem own the 90's ... Mike wasn't ready for the 80's era of the NBA ..... FACTS!!!!! Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad Booooooooooooooooooooooys!
Not age wise but as a unit they were clearly on a decline. 1990 they won 59 and the championship. when Bulls beat them in 91 they won only 50. The next year they lost in the first round next year, 40-42. Not saying prime Bulls couldnt beat prime Pistons but they never did and Pistons didnt beat prime Bulls. Jordan's timing was great to take over.
Yes, it wasn`t just their age but 3 straight finals appearances and 5 straight conference finals..you finish and the season starts again in a few weeks..
@@themistoklestheodosopoulos6253 no! The Detroit Pistons are remember for teaching the Chicago Bulls how to win. Therefore, Michael Jordan should be thanking the Pistons not hating on them.

Clearly you didn't see them play during that era, what you are missing is that other teams played just as hard, not just them, it was that type of era, go back and look at the plays between Lakers and Celtics, it was like a Race war !
If you put the whole narrative in objective prespective, yeah thats a bad sportsmanship from the Pistons regardless of what bulls or pistons exchanged as words in media before or after thier games. I ain't a Jordan fan, but the guy still shaked thier hands (Twice) before when he lost against them. which puts pistons in bad situation with public and fans of basketball clearly. I don't care what celtics did to pistons, "You should not treat people the same way others treated you by justifiying that as a reason to your actions toward a third party or the same people smh. What I mean is jordan didn't do that to them, regardless of his media comments back in the days... I'm talking about the actions in court in that moment. At the end, your actions speak louder than your words and emotions should be handled and let on in the moment not after years as a grown man. There is nothing wrong with taking an L and giving respect for the better competitor and clapping back to them if they win.. thats humility and self respect right thier for yourself including others. Actually when you recognise the better competition you learn from them in order to get better next time in any given sports. Even Jordan himself as great he was he said it many times that he failed many times in order to succeed.. which most people now see only " The Success Part of his Life " which is the final product and desitination of years of his hard work and dedication. So I don't get the motive really behind the situation when couple of pistons players apply sportsmanship while the rest of that team didn't?! .. I'm just curious which is seems to be a "personal issue" toward the poor guy Jordan... why? coz he Swept the pistons 4 - 0 or whatever it maybe as a win. In my opinion, come on bruh that shows madness.. call it weak.. salty.. pity or whack spirit and attitude as a compititor I don't care lol. Notice: I'm not jordan die hard fan, just trying to be objective and stoic here.
@Lift1One Bruh stop the excuses. The 96 Bulls Had MJ at 32, Pippen 30 Rodman 34 and had their former old Detroit Pistons Rival James Edwards at 40 years old and John Salley 31. 72 and 🏆... 91 Pistons also beat Niques Hawks and Bird Celtics... let's not

Highly unlikely they'd be great friends. I don't even think MJ and Pippen were friends.
@chowderchowdown pippen says now since he has gone wild that he & mj were never friends off the court. Mj's best friend on the bulls to this day is Charles oakley. After oak got kicked out of the garden mj himself called Dolan the next day to help oakley. Mj is cook w/ a number of players but oakley has done interviews where they hang out all the time. I grew up loving the Celtics. But Detroit was as close to an actual group of warriors as you’ll ever see. Unapologetically themselves and would back it up. It’s not like that group was controversial for controversy’s sake. It’s just a rare moment where a mix of guys with fierce determination met PLUS they considered winning the ultimate goal. Yes we talk about all the great teams of that era, but The Pistons were pretty special.
There’s more excuses for the bulls losing in 89/90 than anything.

Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball is the best Basketball game ever made. No, I'm not joking.

You took this personally...

Correction: they weren’t old when they lost in 91, however after losing to the Knicks in 92 that was the end of the bad boys.
Isiah, Bill, Vinnie, and James were all 30+ while the Bulls were just hitting their prime.
That’s 2 starters and 2 key bench players.
You a clown
Bill was underrated he played hard
@@dobz746 you're absolutely right .. not to mention Isiah missed most of that season with a broken wrist

Bill kept it Real to this day and you can't take ot from him
On court Laimbeer was the dirtiest player I've ever seen and the badest of the bad boys by far.
This was definition of a rivalry. Real hatred and bad blood between both teams

Mitchell Brock he implied that claimed to not care about other players hating him, obviously he lied otherwise he wouldn’t whine on national media about it
I hate to say this but that woman is asking all the right questions. What happened since the 90-s?
Other than my Rockets winning 2 NBA Championships, the most memorable NBA Finals were the 89' and 90' Detroit Piston Bad Boys. I hated the Boston Celtics back in those days, but today I have to admire how good that mid 80's team was. They'll never be another Larry Bird.
I'm pissed about the 86 Finals.....they were just too much. Sampson was never the same player after that series
I hate how fans discredit the Pistons after the last dance documentary but here's the thing with them getting "old"
Key role players of the Pistons were in their mid-thirties.
Bill keeping it real.
Pistons weren't that old when they got beat...
I was thinking the same thing. They were probably in the league for about 5 to 7 years at that time.
They were in the conference finals for 6 plus years went to the finals 3 str8 years battling out with Boston and the Lakers.
Just like GS they eventually lost due to mileage (long playoff runs and injuries).
