So with an empty sander, it only takes a total of 6 cc's to fill it? Since PC no longer sells the oils, I see some people recommending using Skil's worm drive oil which is readily available. However, the Skil oil is 140W whereas PC specifies 90W. Most GL-5 automotive gear oils contain additives that will attack yellow metals (bronze, brass, and copper) GL-4 oils (compatible with manual transmissions that have brass synchromesh gears) and some full synthetics like Redline MT-90 are safe with yellow metals. There is a guy on ebay that makes and sells matched sets of the worm gears.
I've moved twice since I did this and so I can't check which brand of oil I used. Too much oil will seep out since it only uses a centrifugal washer to seal, i.e. not a true seal.
@@coalbuster Thank you I couldn't find it anywhere and I was afraid to put something in there that might damage it. Now all I have to do is find a gear set so I can be buried with it either place I go I know they'll need a good sander.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

I own the same but, my brass gear is shot. Where can I go to purchase the gear?
I wish I knew, Ryan. I'd love to get a couple.
what type and weight of lubricants do the 503 take
Porter Cable sold their own proprietary oil. I couldn't find the specs for that so I used 75W gear oil. It seems to work fine.

What type of oil should I use?
Porter Cable sold a proprietary oil for use in this sander. I couldn't find it nor its specifications. I use 75W gear oil.
