Did you know anything about Larry Pollard before this video? Help history grow and leave a thumbs up! What do you think about doing a transmission/shifter video?
I vaguely recall Larry’s name on several ocassions , but not enough to equal what you’ve accomplished with this video ! Another top notch effort from you and Logan ! I imagine there’s a lot of great stories still out there and knowing you guys , you’ll find them ! Thanks for sharing with us the people who made the sport , the ones in the spot light and the behind the scenes people as well , and all the forgotten ones places that still have stories to tell ! 🏁🏁
@@Stapleton42 I would like to say something here You take us to all these legend drivers and their shop's In my eyes you are a legend in what you do What you have done and what your going to do Thank you so much for all you do
I grew up in rural Upstate NY where there was a steak house at the top of the hill and a go-kart track at the bottom. Both are long gone. Man, what great times I had as a kid.
Raced many times at the track, always had alot of fun. Harry's steakhouse was a great place to eat. Taylorsville being my hometown these two places are part of my youth. Great memories
Larry is from my home town. Victoria BC Canada. I don’t know if you remember I mentioned to you a few years back that he would be a great story. I started racing a couple years after Larry and had Pollard automotive build my first motor. Spend a few hrs on that go cart track with just Larry and myself while attending a race at Charlotte. Such a great family. Thx for the video.
I lived down the street, in Asheboro NC from the Thomas Bros Ham #00 garage and I knew about Larry! I saw the #00 Ham car pictures, was hoping to hear his story about driving for Howard Thomas! I use to hear Sam Ard workin on the #00 at night as he would be workin on the engine and would be revving it up alot! Another excellent show, Mitch💯 Good times!
Awsome! Awsome! Awsome!!!! I had heard about Larry but like so many of the "hidden Heroes" that you find,I didnt know anything about him. great video and presentation! Thanks For All you do!
That's pretty cool. There's a place here in Clayton NC called Rush Hour Karting that's really fun. They are a lot faster than theme park karts so you have to wear a helmet and neck brace but they haul ass. The fun isn't in how fast you go though, it's the competition. When you get a bunch of friends together and you're bumping and everyone is pretty close and talking smack it's good times no matter how fast you're going.
Mitchell and Logan, another excellent video on the past history of Racing, I never knew who this guy was, but it was so interesting to watch, definitely a transmission video would be really cool. I rebuild my own Muncie in my car when I have a problem, so to watch guys like him to do a video to learn more things is always great. I think you could do a four or five part more video just out of his place on another note. I loved he praised you for how you do the history videos it's amazing how all these older drivers are now searching you out in a way to cover this. Every Memorial Day weekend we used to go to the Coca-Cola 600 back in the Mid90s to the mid 2000s we would tour the shops down behind the speedway the first time I went to see one of the shops it was for Rusty Wallace, he was still driving the Kodiak car, they had a big bear mascot stuffed in the shop. I remember that the shop wasn't very big at all. Jeff Gordon win his first race ever the next day we went back to Hendrick motors, it was nothing like the extravagant shop it was 45 years later. So I went to a lot of those shops that you've done tours out we went to a small shop that you did and it looked like it was closed and as we were getting ready to leave Bobbie Allison walked out and he said what's up, we took a picture with him, which I have never seen my friend has it. And I know you're at that shop right after Dave died I believe and he was kind of closing down the operation. He had that terrible limp that he was surviving from that wreck. Keep up the great videos. Hope to see that transmission video and more like this in the future.
Thanks man that is super interesting! It sounds like you visited Rusty's Busch series shop behind the speedway. We went to that building with Kenny in a video have you seen it yet?
Great video. I knew a little about Larry but now I want to know more. I also think they need to open the go cart track once again. If they can make money and enjoy having it once again.
I can’t wait for this one, many nights at that track….. if you go to the other side of town my family has several of our dirt cars and some late models ran at hickory
Maybe this video will find someone willing to lease the property. Maybe forego the 1st years lease for the cost the new proprietor will have to incur to get the track back to race condition.
Pretty interesting where this has led you Mitchell. I got to say this is probably one of your finest Productions I hope you get a little deeper into his Winston Cup career NASCAR is so far removed from this now and there ain't no going back which is true of everything. Congratulations
Was that the 00 car in the back ground? Thomas Brothers Country Cured Ham car. It was always in Myrtle Beach on Saturday nights, I did not remember the driver. Harold Fountain out of Augusta a black Chevelle sponsored by a funeral home. McNeil from Charleston always in a ford Fairlane I think. What a driver, always in the top 3 or 4 but never tore up equipment. Never even brought anyone in as crew always by himself at the track. This was also the time of Sam Summers in the baby blue car also Harry Gant. The best days of racing
Another great documentary about racing history from you and Logan, I think Larry might have just given Logan a new nickname, Boo Boo, she's definitely smarter than the average bear, lol 😂
1983. . Pollard was Betty's crew Cheif. Wasn't that the year of the Dover fiasco. Big engine & left side tires on the right side of the car? Was L.P. crew Cheif for that? I've never heard L.P talk about his story. Seems like a good Ole boy transplant from Canada.
18:23 really shows, to me, the negative side-effect of the new ways NASCAR is operating, at least at the highest level. There was just so much small-business supported by racing in the day, so that a guy like Larry here who’s needing to heal from an injury can fire-up a gear cutting and building business with support even from Ford itself. NASCAR’s rules are going to come into play by dictating tolerances and dimensions or whatever, but the business relationships are between teams and builders and on a level where participation can be scaled to what works best. Not every person wants to have a factory building every gear for every team. NASCAR needing to control every element of stock car racing, from the race sanctioning to the cars themselves, has punched the entire small-scale “racing industry” in NC right in the face, it seems to me.
I remember Larry kicking my ass on the track.

Thank you so much for all you do
Yes I did. I was a big Harry Gant fan . I knew he was Harry's son in law. I was watching the Busch race in 88 when Larry had the bad Dover crash.
I recognized the name. But I didn't know much about him. That would be cool to do a video on transmissions.
All your videos are good and I enjoy it. I was born in 63 and at the track in 64 so a lot of your videos bring back so many memories it's awesome

Maybe they wanted a piece of Taylorsville in NY lol
Raced many times at the track, always had alot of fun. Harry's steakhouse was a great place to eat. Taylorsville being my hometown these two places are part of my youth. Great memories
I always wondered if Harry’s steakhouse used steak from his own cattle farm
@@Stapleton42 Must have done,what a great set up !
Great video, i had heard about Larry but didnt know his life travels from so far away , this is pretty awesome.
I agree I did not know the full scope of his journey to NASCAR world
Going down a rabbit hole turned into a gold mine! Great video Mitchell & Logan.
Thank you Jim! What was your favorite part?

I would love to do a video about Sam Ard's former race shops. Maybe Larry could be a guest on one of those
Man it breaks my heart to see that track go to waste. I spent a many of weekend there as a child and even with my children.
Do you have any good stories to share?

Yeah, who wouldn’t want a go-kart track in their backyard? 😂 Hopefully they can find someone to lease it!
Coffee and Stapleton in the morning yippee
Glad you’re here for it 🕺
Great video guys, very interesting to say the least knowing another Canuck made it down south to run with the big boys. Halifax Nova Scotia Canada
thanks man!
Kudos to Larry's sister for rescuing shop tools.
I agree, what a great sister!
Definitely bring it back.
Awesome video as always. Keep up your awesome videos..
thank you Sheldon!
His family is the nicest people I went to school with his daughter

thank you Clint!
He may be from Canada, but he definitely has the southern good old boy accent
He's literally a Canadian Good Ole Boy.. I did not know that was possible to exist but here we are lol
L👀ks like that go kart track Needs its own north wilksboro style revival.
A lot of the reason this old stuff is still around because it was made out of something quality USA stuff 🤘🏻🏁
Well said!

He really does. Fascinating to see when genes skip a generation like that

Larry Pollard Was NASCAR Winston Cup Series And Busch Grand National Series Driver From The 80s And Early 90s Thanks For Uploading
thank you for being here Jeffrey!
I love your videos
Great job 👍😅
Best way to watch these videos. Click on the link and immediately hit the thumbs up button. Then watch because you know it's going to be good!!!
Thank you Mark that helps us more than you know!
I did not know of him whatsoever, and I’m a PNW dude! That said, I have always been more drag race centric.😉
time to rebuild it.. clean it up.. this is terrible to see it this way...
I hope this video can help that happen!

A solid observation. I dont know if Larry does any NASCAR jobs anymore. Maybe trucks and arca?
somebody save that place, and buy Brad deberti go-kart collection that used to belong to Dale Earnhardt😊
Brad has a ton of karts doesn't he 😂
23:42 dont under sell it. It's pretty sick to have done all that. Dont compare your story to others
I agree
Is that a radio tower next to the track ??
I have no idea!
I cheated and posted a comment early! 😂
That is legal!
