- I made this video for you guys speaking about signs for your online friend or beau being a catfish and how you could spot it before getting hurt more. Drawn from my own experience as well as off- and online friends! I might have skipped numbering inbetween but don't let that distract you!

The scariest thing is if you are the one being catfished you can not see it!!! Even if it is behaviors you would call out to someone else.

Tinder is full of fake profiles, it is quite frustrating actually. Some other good signs:
- They have gorgeous stock photos but ZERO effort is put into the rest of their profile.
- They want to move you off the original website/app really quickly. This might sound good to some, but really they are trying to avoid being reported and caught. Don't give your number to someone until you have met them.
- They ask you simple questions and then ask you the same questions again later as if you haven't chatted before.
- They start talking to you about money/investments. The implication being, you will send them some of your hard earned money and not get it back. Who would want to chat to complete strangers about this stuff? really?
So yeah, if you encounter anything like the above, then avoid them like the plague. Reverse image search is your friend and can save you a ton of trouble.
Thank you Ben! I think this is very good advice especially for detecting scammers. I suppose my advise was mostly towards people who fake love and affection just for the sake of attention / living out fantasies online, without interest in financial gain or at least only a side-interest in money gains. Indeed professional scammers tend to do what you describe. Thanks for sharing!
@@birbiebirdie OK got it. Yeah I have certainly been on the receiving end of that in my naive past. I didn't lose any money but it's a waste of time and emotional investment... which also sucks. In my case, this person was actually somewhat real, but they had no plans to actually meet in person :( .

That might be true, even though I thought it relevant to point some (at first glance obvious) stuff out because one often chooses to ignore some obvious signs when feelings are involved... I am guilty of that myself.

I think this is now happening to me on Instagram. 😔it’s terrible because I’m pretty sure this person I like and have been chatting with is not who they say they are cause they won’t call or video chat. It’s only been a few weeks and he lives in another state but it’s terrible these people do this! It’s really hurtful, time wasting, disappointing! I like that you shared your tips and experience.

If its about money or sexy pictures then you definitely know there is somethIng fishy behind this person...so don't go for the bait!
I finally made my catfish call me. I live in America, but the man sounded foreign. He hung up me after 3 minutes. I messaged him, to ask and he hung up and he said he get's angry easily. He kept insisting he wasn't a catfish. I followed your advice and asked him to pose for a picture, I sent a picture first using a peace symbol and I told him to send me a picture using the same symbol with his face in the photo. He never replied back. He was a really clingy catfish-hard to get rid of him. Like he was surprised that I had caught on.

I think I might be getting catfished, except we met for a coffee and everything went well but that was like three months ago. She is really busy with a bunch of kids but it really seems weird. I think I'm getting catfished. This guy I really like alot keeps telling me that he will talk to me and video call me if I send him money to pay for his phone. I have done that and he did video call me so I think he's real but he tells me that if I want to keep talking to him I have to keep paying for his cell phone bill because he doesn't have money to pay for it. So this would mean that if I don't pay he will never talk to me again. :-(

I have so much to tell you on this matter. I was catfished TWICE! Both happening at the same time. Yes. I did send money but steam cards. There first one I found out. So that's gone. But this second one is still calling me, I block them but idk how they find my new number. Long story. I wish I could post pictures up here so you can help me find who this individual male is. We live in a remote area. So access is rare. My cell don't work that much for we reside in the mtns. Plus a man calls me all the time to check upon me, or just to speak. When I ask him questions about his identity to send me a pictures of him. He says it's a federal grant building in a private sector in miami Florida. But when I check upon myself of that building I can't find it unless I'm looking wrong. I have much proof over the 8 years plus. I need help. I was so close to committing suicide over this matter. 😢

so ive been talking to this cat for a few weeks now and asked if she wanted a mouse for dinner..she just kept trying to change the subject. long story short, she turned out to be a fish. i was heartbroken. but at least i had a nice meal afterwards.

These catfish use a type of "voice simulator" as demonstrated on the Dr Phil show recently. Now guys can sound like women with or without a specific accent. Just be careful! You might be communicating with someone of the same sex. Just note the grammer they use. That's usually a dead giveaway! Trust me, they are never the nationality they claim to be. Nobody in their right mind will onlinr date or give money to a West African or South Indian they never met.
This is a new one (and I have been approached by catfish many times): You inherited money from a long lost relative! Yes, you've never even heard of this family member but guess what? He was loaded! And YOU are the lucky one to inherit his fortune. Unfortunately for this schmuck, I'm no dumb blond. So, I played along and absolutely roasted him! This long lost family member's surname was spelled different than mine (Classen instead of Claassen) and this is my married surname (not my maiden name). This fool had to call it a day! Guess I missed out on millions...
I think im being catfished, I'd like if someone tells me if I'm right or wrong, so I met this guy online, he's from Vienna and look really nice, he never asked for money, he's sweet though, he sent me his pictures, some of them looked professional some of them looked natural, but whenever I asked him for video call or normal voice he said he would want to meet me face to face and hence doesn't want to call me, he even said he'll meet me wherever I say I want to meet him, is he real or fake?

No offense but this is a bad video. It's not 1984. Just dont consider them real until u do a videochat & at least voice call. The reason Catfishing works is because u get emotionally involved with a fake person. If u can meet up in a week for coffee/ smoothie/ meal or videochat- he or she's a catfish.

No offense but that's pretty much what I am saying there, isn't it? However I do think it's pretty normal to not voice call or video call the minute you meet a stranger online. Maybe I'm oldschool like that, but I don't like a stranger immediately being able to screencapture a video of me. And the easiness of meeting up right away is pretty much gone as soon as you livemore than a few hours apart. Also do consider that no matter how internet-savvy you and me are, being catfished and financially bled out happens to a lot of older single people who didn't know any better out of shere inexperience...
