The car you see @ 8.12 is the AC Cobra Coupe GT that Jack Sears infamously drove at 185 MPH on the public M1 motorway during testing. It was done at 4am on a Sunday and there was no speed limit at the time so it wasn't illegal, but it caused a real uproar in the press.

CSX2287? It doesn't have the Phill Remington fabricated spoiler on it yet, are these the first runs of the original car?

Yes, and in response we got a "temporary" 70 MPH M Way limit that Barbara Castle made permanent a few years later. She always denied that this incident prompted the limit, insisting they had it in mind anyway due to general safety issues. It was well known that Aston Martin were also doing high speed testing up and down the M1 from their Newport Pagnell base with the DP212 Le Mans car among other things, and the Police were getting more and more concerned with what they were seeing with not just major motor manufacturers but general "Ton up boys" on motorbikes etc. I suppose it was too good to last forever, but what a time to be alive!

@@jamesfee7746 It was built by AC themselves, not Shelby. Chassis is #A98.

It's unfortunate that in Ford VS Ferrari Bruce McLaren was never mentioned. Even though he was there from the beginning apparently.

It amazes me that all the so called experts didn’t realise that Bruce McLaren absolutely dominated the Can Am series even after his death. That team absolutely beat all comers until the Porsche 917 arrived . He built those cars from the ground up with the help of his team .

These on-track test sessions at the good ol' Goodwood are just magic! And if provides you quite bit of an explanation why they never realised in first place that she had a nose with uplifting tendencies since there was no way there to test the early GT40 Mk.I and Mk.I-X at the extreme speeds of the Hunaudières until they actually went to Le Mans...

What a great film. Sounds like Tim Turner narrating.

Gotta love Wyer - "140 mayles an are"! What a shame he had to deal with a crap engine and gearbox, and the awful aero.

A true gent, but a great meticulous tactician too. There is a great true anecdote when one of his team complained to Wyer about being refused entry to the paddock at a race and asked why, Wyer joked, “breeding dear boy, breeding!”
