There’s absolutely zero evidence of that, and it defies the record. First, let’s examine how older QBs are being treated vs. how Russ is being treated. Old a$$, 40-year-old *Aaron Rodgers* is supposedly going to lead the Jets to a SB after coming off a gruesome Achilles injury. A 36-year-old *Kirk Cousins* is supposed to make Atlanta a contender when he’s coming off a similar injury. *Matthew Stafford* is also 36 and a year removed from having missed the 2022 season with an injury; yet people believe he’s still good to go. Yet, 35-year-old Russ, who was top-10 in several meaningful statistics is supposedly in the brink of being out of the league. Fields is an afterthought in this equation. He was brought in to be a backup. If not for Kenny Pickett, Fields wouldn’t even be in Pittsburgh. The Steelers were prepared to go forward with a QB room of Russell Wilson and Kenny Pickett. They had no interest in Fields. They knew Fields was interested in going to Pittsburgh. They had no interest until Kenny Pickett left! They not only coveted Russ, they stole him in the middle of the night by getting special permission to negotiate with him before free agency began. There’s absolutely zero evidence of that, and it defies the record. First, let’s examine how older QBs are being treated vs. how Russ is being treated.
Old a$$, 40-year-old *Aaron Rodgers* is supposedly going to lead the Jets to a SB after coming off a gruesome Achilles injury.
A 36-year-old *Kirk Cousins* is supposed to make Atlanta a contender when he’s coming off a similar injury.
*Matthew Stafford* is also 36 and a year removed from having missed the 2022 season with an injury; yet people believe he’s still good to go.
Yet, 35-year-old Russ, who was top-10 in several meaningful statistics is supposedly in the brink of being out of the league.
Fields is an afterthought in this equation. He was brought in to be a backup. If not for Kenny Pickett, Fields wouldn’t even be in Pittsburgh. The Steelers were prepared to go forward with a QB room of Russell Wilson and Kenny Pickett.
They had no interest in Fields. They knew Fields was interested in going to Pittsburgh. They had no interest until Kenny Pickett left!
They not only coveted Russ, they stole him in the middle of the night by getting special permission to negotiate with him before free agency began.
That tells you how badly the Steelers wanted him and how badly other teams wanted Russ, and it tells you the Steelers knew it. Everybody needs to quit this nonsense!
