  • The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is one of the seven Research Councils that form part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). ESRC offers PhD funding / studentships, covering fees and a maintenance as well as providing high quality research training.
Applicants can’t apply directly to the ESRC for PhD funding. Instead, funding for PhDs is routed through universities that allocate awards to students within either Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) or Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs). The Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) are the most common way in which the ESRC provide PhD funding.
Watch recipients Abhishek Vyas (PhD Education, Brunel University London) and Anvita Ramachandran (DPhil Development Studies, University of Oxford) explain everything that you need to know about the ESRC PhD Studentships.
