    'kafkaesque':
    - cool word
    - obvious reference to the title in the episode
    - also subtly references what happens in the episode (jesse thinking his situation is getting worse)
    B tier
    'green light':
    - cool phrase
    - obvious reference to the title in the episode
    - also subtly references what happens in the episode (gus gives walter the 'go ahead' to start cooking meth again)

HN Films, "Pilot" actually refers to Walt piloting the RV, which he is driving in the cold open. It is also foreshadowing the "pilot" of the Wayfarer that will collide with another "pilot" in midair, killing hundreds in season 3. Hope this helps!

Good video, but I think there's some more meanings that I think are on the Wiki too. 'Grey Matter' is both the business, and about grey morality with Walter ending the episode deciding to return to cooking meth. There's also 'Sunset' which I see as also representing the RV being destroyed as the end of an era for the show. I think those two titles should be higher, but most episodes have clever titles.

Here are the explanations for each episode in the series based on the wiki page, split in two so that my comment will be able to send.
Pilot: The pilot episode (first episode) of the series; a pilot light is needed to cook crystal; the alternate title Breaking Bad references the show itself and Walt breaking bad (raising Hell in Vince Gilligan's words)
Cat's in the Bag...: Part of a reference to Sweet Smell of Success, where a character resolves an issue; "The cat's in the bag" usually involves keeping secrets such as Walt's cancer and Emilio's death
...And the Bag's in the River: The second part of the Sweet Smell of Success reference as the second and final part of the Krazy 8 mini-arc; Walt's cancer diagnosis is no longer secret; "The cat's in the bag and the bag's in the river" means that a situation such as Emilio and Krazy 8 has been handled
Cancer Man: Is all about Walt's cancer and his role as a man; a reference to Vince Gilligan's former show The X-Files's villain of the same name, foreshadowing Walt's own villainous turn later
Gray Matter: The name of the company that features heavily in the episode; gray is a mix of Walt's and Elliot's last names; a type of brain tissue; emphasizes the gray morality of the show
Crazy Handful of Nothin': A reference to Cool Hand Luke, where the titular protagonist is called this based on his poker hand; Jesse tries to sell a pound but gets beat up; Walt's handful of explosive mercury which is "not meth"; Krazy 8 is now a handful of nothing
A No-Rough-Stuff-Type Deal: A reference to Fargo, where the antagonist wants this sort of situation to happen but it all goes wrong; mirrors Walt's desire for a non-violent deal and the same violent outcome; Walt's deal with Tuco
Seven Thirty-Seven: The first of four clues for the final scene of the season, involving a Boeing 737 airplane; Walt needs 737 thousand dollars to get out of the game
Grilled: Walt and Jesse are interrogated (grilled); Tuco's grill jewelry; Tuco's grilled steak
Bit by a Dead Bee: A running joke from To Have or Have Not, where a drunk keeps asking if anyone's been bit by a dead bee; Walt and Jesse are bit by the consequences of the dead Tuco
Down: The second of the teddy bear cold opens, where the planes have been struck down; Walt and Jesse are both in low conditions (Walt is shunned by Skylar, Jesse is homeless)
Breakage: Any type of service that is unused by the customer; a word Jesse says in the episode; Walt breaks through his old life to be a criminal; Hank experiences mental breakdowns from his encounter with Tuco
Peekaboo: Jesse plays peekaboo with Skooge's kid; Walt plays a figurative game of peekaboo with Gretchen about his money laundering
Negro y Azul: Black and blue in Spanish, usually meaning bruising; the name of the song in the teaser; Heisenberg's outfit and meth; Skylar's dress; Jesse's black TV with a blue searching for signal screen
Better Call Saul: Saul Goodman's slogan
4 Days Out: Walt and Jesse spend four days out in the desert; Walt's cancer test takes four days to come back
Over: The third of the teddy bear cold opens, where the planes have crashed over the area; Walt's Heisenberg business is over for now; Walt is ironically under the house; Walt's civilian life is over
Mandala: Sanskrit for the circle of life; Combo dies and Holly is in the process of being born in the same episode, which is part of the circle of life; Los Pollos Hermanos is run like a mandala in Southeast Asian political formations- difficult to get in
Phoenix: Jane is revealed to be from Phoenix, Arizona; the Phoenix Lander is talked about on the news; Holly is born and Jane dies, mirroring how the phoenix is born from its own ashes
ABQ: The final teddy bear cold open, where the plane crash happens in Albuquerque, commonly nicknamed ABQ; 737 down over ABQ means a plane has crashed over Albuquerque
No Mas: Spanish for no more; Walt doesn't want to cook anymore; Jesse doesn't want to be an addict anymore; Skyler doesn't want to be married to Walt anymore; a reference to Roberto Duran announcing his retirement from boxing, only to return to it a short time later, like Walt does with his cooking
Caballo Sin Nombre: Spanish for horse with no name, a song sung by the band America; Walt sings this song twice; Walt says This is America; the song is erroneously considered a song about drug escapism; the song describes a man traveling for days through a desert, which describes Walt's current loneliness
IFT: Skylar's bombshell line at the end of the episode about how she literally f'cked Ted; the Cousins figuratively f'cked Tortuga for being a snitch
Green Light: Permission to proceed; Gus gives Walt a green light to start cooking while he's at a green traffic light; Hank wants to be given the green light to search for Heisenberg
Mas: Spanish for more; Walt returns to the cooking business, closing off the plot thread started in No Mas; Hank searches for more RVs
Sunset: Gus and the Cousins meet at sunset; the RV's sunset has come and gone; the RV is destroyed near the time of sunset
One Minute: Hector states that Marco has one minute to live while holding his head underwater; Gus warns Hank that he has one minute before the Cousins get him, which is shown in real time; Skyler asks Walt if he has a minute
I See You: Leonel recognizes Walt when he sees him; most of the episode is spent in an ICU (Intensive Care Unit); Juan Bolsa sees the hitman that kills him
Kafkaesque: A grotesque vision of the world where guilty individuals futilely search for salvation; mentioned during Jesse's meeting as something to describe his current situation
Fly: Walt and Jesse spend the episode trying to kill a fly.
Abiquiu: Georgia O'Keefe, the artist of the painting Jesse and Jane look at, is from this New Mexican city.
    Stay tuned for Part 2.

    • @weirdguy1495
      @weirdguy1495 2 місяці тому

      Part 2:
Half Measures: References Mike's famous "don't take half measures" speech.
Full Measure: A direct continuation from Half Measures; describes Walt's and Jesse's murder of Gale to save their own skins.
Box Cutter: Gale uses one to open a box; Gus uses the same box cutter to kill Victor; Walt's and Jesse's murder of Gale is a figurative box cutter, unleashing Gus's monstrous side.
Thirty-Eight Snub: The type of gun Walt buys; Walt gets snubbed by Gus when Mike says he won't see him again; Skyler gets snubbed by Bogdan when he refuses to give her his car wash; Walt gets snubbed by Mike when he refuses to help him with killing Gus; Marie gets snubbed by Hank when he corrects her on what to call his minerals; Jesse gets snubbed by Badger and Skinny Pete when they leave him.
Open House: Jesse's house is open to anyone that will come by; Marie steals from various open houses to cope with her situation.
Bullet Points: The Pollos Hermanos truck gets various bullet holes in it; Skyler stresses the bullet points on her list to Walt; Walt is worried about Jesse's bullet casings.
Shotgun: Jesse rides shotgun for most of the episode; the fake hitman at the end of the episode is armed with a shotgun.
Cornered: Skyler corners Walt with questions; Skyler is cornered into leaving; Skyler ends up at the Four Corners Monument.
Problem Dog: Jesse's confession about killing Gale is disguised as him putting down a problem dog.
Hermanos: Spanish for brothers; this is Los Pollos Hermanos owner Gus's first episode as a lead character; Gus's blood brother Max is shown for the first time; brothers-in-law Hank and Walt work together
Bug: Walt bugs Jesse's car; Hank gets the information from the bug planted on Gus's car; Hank is a figurative bug up Walt's butt.
Salud: Spanish for cheers or health; used in Gus's toast to Don Eladio when they drink the poison; a figurative toast to end Gus's connection to the cartel
Crawl Space: Walt spends the last scene of the episode in his house's crawl space; Walt is in a metaphorical crawl space wanting to shield himself from the world.
End Times: An omen for imminent doom, apocalypse, and transformation, mirroring Walt's trajectory from this point onwards; Saul says this during his goodbye to Jesse.
Face Off: Walt's and Hector's big confrontations with Gus; Hector and Gus face off against each other; Gus's face is blown off.
Live Free or Die: New Hampshire's state logo where Walt's car comes from; Walt's new motto in life after killing Gus
Madrigal: The titular business that Gus was partnered with shows up for the first time here; a madrigal is a poetic song performed by two or more people without instruments, mirroring Walt's, Jesse's, and Mike's current setup of being their own bosses.
Hazard Pay: The conflict of the episode where Walt and Mike argue about how to spend their money.
Fifty-One: Walt turns 51 years old; frustratingly this is the fiftieth episode; Heisenberg is starting to take over more than half of Walt's life; 51/50 is a California code where people who want to die can be involuntarily committed to a psychiatric facility, referencing Skylar's drowning attempt and Walt's threat to have her committed; Skyler uses an Area 51 mug; it is 11:51 at the end of the episode.
Dead Freight: Unused cargo space; Walt, Jesse, Mike, and Todd steal from a freight train in a dead zone; Drew Sharp is killed shortly after the freight leaves.
Buyout: Jesse and Mike buyout from the drug business; Walt reveals his buyout from Grey Matter to Jesse.
Say My Name: Walt says this at the start of the episode; Walt demands the names of Mike's guys; Mike addresses Walt by name before he dies; the original title Everybody Wins is a reference to Walt's line at the end of Buyout and is ironic because nobody wins here.
Gliding Over All: Walt Whitman's poem book previously owned by Gale and currently owned by Walt that becomes a smoking gun when it comes to Hank learning who Heisenberg is; Walt's drug business glides over everyone; there are aerial shots during the time skip montage showing the fumigated houses from above.
Blood Money: What Jesse considers to be his share of the money due to all the deaths that happened to get it.
Buried: Walt buries his money; ironically references how his and Skyler's secrets are uncovered by Hank and Marie; Declan's lab is buried underground.
Confessions: Walt makes a bogus confession video; Saul confesses to stealing Jesse's ricin cigarette; Jesse wants Walt to confess his misdeeds to him.
Rabid Dog: Jesse is considered a rabid dog that needs to be put down by Saul.
To'hajiilee: The climax of the episode takes place at the reservation of the same name.
Ozymandias: References the name of a poem about a king whose empire crumbles all around him, mirroring Walt's current situation.
Granite State: The state name of New Hampshire, where Walt moves to; sums up the rough and unyielding states of the survivors' lives; Walt's current situation is a monument to his fallen reign
Felina: Spanish for feline; the song at the start of the episode is El Paso where a girl named Feleena leads a man to be shot by his enemies, which is Walt's current goal; an anagram for finale; the elements iron, lithium, and sodium, signifying blood, meth, and tears.
